I didn't realize at the end of ET, the space ship just took him back to Elliot's house where Elliot proceeded to make laps around his house for the rest of eternity.
So, ET had to fall in a lot of holes, catch a biscuit, and let two men enter him so he could finally go home to see Elliot walking around his house. Makes perfect sense to me.
Wow, just wow... This is absolutely the best ending I have ever seen to probably the best game as well. I would almost just almost have the guts to say this out does games like zelda, super metroid, mario, modern games like the gta series. Pretty much every game. The only newer version game I can think of that might compete is superman 64 but I am a retro gamer.
So after watching this, I've finally realized (after 2 decades) that I actually completed the game back in the late 80's early 90's but I just didn't realize it because the game was so fucking stupid and made no goddamn sense. I still get upset when I think about how frustrated this game used to make me feel.
This game is gorgeous these graphics r beyond anything I've seen and the story for this game is just incredible it's sad and happy at the same time this is a 10 out of a 10
I just realized that ET's body isn't just a giant head with legs here. I always thought he was opening his giant mouth when he goes up, he's just raising his head.
@xXxThr33xXx Thank you. Good to see someone else here who actually played the game when it was first released. As you said, nothing to write home about, but definitely not the worst game of all time. I liked it because it was fun and I could sit down and beat it pretty quickly (once I got the hang of it).
Reading this comment feels like a kid from the great depression is trying to convince me spinning a hula hoop with a stick is a good way to pass the time.
I personally enjoy this game (it's decently fun once you understand it) but for the life of me I never could speedrun it due to the whole game being RNG-based. Are there any tricks to get all items quickly?
@soopakoopavids it was an atari game based on the ET movie. in teh movie, ET had to phone home to get his spaceship to come get him while avoiding government agents and scientists, and in teh game, you collect pieces of the phone so you can phone home and have your spaceship come and get you while avoiding government agents and scientists. i think it was pretty spot on, if you ask me. there have been worse movie games, like the atari game based on the Aliens movie (it was a pacman clone).
Neil Meskauskis No. Directions you can teleport in at the cost of life energy. The map is a cube. I am not making this up. Try it yourself. archive.org/stream/E.T._The_Extra-Terrestrial_1982_Atari_NTSC/E.T._The_Extra-Terrestrial_1982_Atari_NTSC.bin?module=a2600&scale=2
@SandwidgeVids ET's UFO dropped him off in the forest, he fell in some holes and found the phone pieces and went back to the forest to call his UFO and he won and elliot was walking around his house as the end cutscene and the guy in the trench coat was a badguy, I commend the player on his mad skill at avoiding. the grfx wer amazing in 82
@xXxThr33xXx I agree. I was like 10 or so when I played it. I liked it. And people can't compare it with the stuff that's out today due to the difference in technology. You said it well! Thanks.
I'd hate to see the normal run!! Ugh!! I had this game as a kid... I was to little to understand wtf I was doing. But I loved that E.T. movie.. It was the first and only time I saw my dad cry. And he was born in the 50's where if you cried you weren't a real man. LoL
I played this game and had no idea what the hell was happening, so I thought maybe since no one even knows how to beat it, it would have some epic ending.... nope, I was wrong.
@HyugaStone87 Yep in a desert in New Mexico during "The Video Game Crash of 1983." They (Atari) buried 5 million unsold cartridges of ET: The Extraterresstrial for the Atari 2600.
@sunnyelaine999 your like the first guy I have EVER heard of liking E.T. the game I just saw somebody who said that when he was a kid, and got in trouble, his punishment was playing this game lastly,it almost ended video games until Donkey kong came out.
I used to have this video game. I don't think I ever beat it though. I may have, don't remember it was almost 30 years ago. Does anyone remember Gremlins for Atari? If I go to heaven when I die, I want to make sure God has an Atari 2600 ready for me to play, and a Nintendo too. LOL
@AIDSTheOrgazoid if you found the 5 million copies, you would make about 5.6mill as, 1, they were cemented so will need work to fix, 2, the system is rare and valued as vintage, and lastly, they are not valued alot, around $1.20 at MAX.
@gir42399 I am a woman by the way. It wasn't that bad of a video game and you can't compare it to the stuff that's out now as the technology is completely different. I really only played two video games, this one and Frogger. I don't currently play any of the new stuff. Not my scene.
What is that one sprite running around the house for? Is he happy to see ET going home? Is he looking for a set of keys he dropped? Is he just panicking because he can't believe someone actually beat the game, and he doesn't know how to give a decent ending!? I DON'T KNOW!!!
@Qwertacious or Halo for Xbox, when you get a little older you will look back on those games with fond memories, like I look back on my NES or Genesis. Oh yeah and on my video, glad you took the time to go through my channel to try and defame me, if you can't appreciate a bit of goofing off, that's your problem not mine, try to get out more instead of insulting people on youtube.

Legend has it those laps are still going
I have no idea what is going on.
good
E.T is quickly scavenging to the exact pitfalls that have the parts to rebuild its spaceship
Sums up the Atari experience tbh
No one did. This game flopped so hard when it came out.
Find 3 pieces of a telephone in random pits, then use the phone to phone home, then wait for the ship to arrive. That's the entire game.
@usertheloset I think he won't answer, it's been a while
I still live!
So obvious
5 weeks of work haha
it used to make me angry how nobody read the instructions and didnt get to experience the game correctly. Its really not that bad

Man tell me about it, ET has competition, I mean have you seen dem rings in Superman 64!
the rings... OH GOD THE RINGS!
Oh Superman 64. I had nightmares for years about that game!
Why do you say “just wow”, and then proceed to blather on about stupid bullshit?
Best game ever

sooo, what the fuck happened there?
Less broken than Fallout 76
The sad part is you're not wrong.
the ET game wasn't broken but it broke the gaming industry
Naw, he actually did beat the game. It requires getting 3 pieces of the telephone and using it, then waiting for the ship to arrive. That's it.
