I thought I was the only 1 that does this stuff. I go the extra and make sure the flash holes are all uniform also. Having said that I make sure I don't lose any brass in the field. I'm talking 17 Ackley hornet a while ago before 17 hornet was commercial.
I use the hornady fl sizing die with the neck decapping pin removed to just start the process, neck the first 2-3mm down with that, then use the Redding size/trim die to finish the process, you have take a little time when first necking down the case. Even then, a handful out of 100 will crush. Also, don't over lube the case.
Using a very mild load of 10.4gn's of N120 and I'm getting 3200fps with a 20gn v-max. I've heard of people with throat erosion using hot loads of Lil'Gun already; I'd rather take bore and case life over out and out velocity in this little round, provided the accuracy is there.
You can now, but at the time this was made you couldn't very easily. Still, even now, your choice is pretty much just Hornady, if you wish to use another type you're still stuck.
I think I can say, without fear of contradiction, that you are nuts. You could get a job at McDonalds and in a shorter time than it would take you to "fabricate" a hundred cases you earn could earn enough to buy some quality cases from Hornady. The game you are playing isn't worth the candle.
Hornady cases are poop though IMO. Best brass by far is RWS (22 hornet) but the cost is quite prohibitive to buy the raw 22 hornet cases. Also, at the time of making this video, Hornady brass wasn't widely available in the UK (it is now). Let me know what kind of case life you get out of your Hornady cases though, I'd be interested to know what it's like.
@@dmmuller Looking like this caliber CZ is not being sold anymore here in NZ. Or the ammunition. So wildcat and fireforming 22 hornet may be the only option for someone who realizes this caliber is perfect. For small varmint, in rural areas, that have a few houses, not that far away. Reasonably low report with sound moderator. And very economical on the ever more expensive powder. For some people who don't realize about reloading tricks you can do - when you get going, it's a lot faster done, than said.

oh i thought in the video you say you do the initial die is the seating die ?
Hornady cases are Poor compared to RWS even if you have to neck them down, Mick what speed are you getting form your hornet loads .
