@Benny Dover in the past 10 years I have called all my moose into camp. At some point I should start bringing my bow. This particular moose was called in for my buddy who had never taken a 60 inch bull and was pleasantly surprised with this 71 inch bull. He was the CEO of WhisperTek at the time and was showcasing his silencer therefore resulting in the shots taken. Thank you for your comment.

I dont choose a 308. But, I drug out 2 moose dropped by 308 and one dropped in its tracks by a 270. Just good, calm riflemen.

That’s some big moose ye got there, well done. Not quite as big here in Newfoundland but we got some nice ones. Last one I got had seventeen points and maybe forty inches but in meantime I have never measured him. Got the skull outside and gonna measure him now after seeing this. Cheers from Newfoundland

How do you get all the meat back to camp? Do you process most of it or just take what you want and leave the rest for animals to eat? You guys are awesome bush pilots.
Great question! Alaska required ALL editable meat to be brought back to camp with meat naturally attached on the bone, no processing.
Basically we break apart the moose into quarters (meat on bone) and backpack them back to camp. Once in camp we hang the meat or place them on logs close to the river where it's the coolest and prepare them to be flown out with us.
One way we make this packing easier is with our new meat bags with handles allowing two people to lift the same bag and maneuver it much easier.

Hi , Great trip, great result. I really would like to know what projectile and weight of projectile you used in the 308W.
We used 190gr ABLR on a Tach II , Proof Research rifle system.
Great. This is the stuff true heroes are made of.

How's the steaks off one of those big bulls? Pretty tough?
For 30 years I have eaten bulls 60" or greater and loved all the meat, however because they are so old, I have most of the meat turned into hamburger with pork sute. The rosts I pull out we slow cook overnight and they turn out great.

We have most of the meat turned into berger or slow cook the roast. Meat falls off after a long slow cook. We have eaten big moose for over 3 decades now.
It might be a flaw of mine but I just love going after giant bulls.

Thanks! In all honesty my ears didn't ring for the first time. The silencer seams to project the loud bang 10 yards in front of you without hurting my ears.

I don't really understand why you need to end the life of a beautiful Moose , so you can have his antlers . Sad life , sad ending . How many bullets to kill at 12:03 ?
In Alaska we hunt moose to feed our families just like most folks buy beef at the store. Be harvesting the "OLD" bulls this perpetuates the species allowing the bulls to pass on their genes before we harvest them.
Along with providing for our families I love to capture the moments on videos to share for a lifetime.
Unlike "meat only hunters" we have the meat butchered for our table fare and then have the giant antlers taxidermy professionally to hang in our homes.
I go another step further to produce these filmes to share my experiences with everyone for training or maybe to live somehow vicariously through our blessed hunts.

Thank you for your comment. As the producer and hunter in this production I can truly say even I look back to my older video productions and think to myself the same thing.
One of the most basic (rookie) issues for editors is having the music too loud.
In this production I used music that made me feel like I did on the hunt and understand we all walk to a different tune.

We no longer endorse the manufacture of this rifle however it's a 308 cartridge shooting 190 grn ABLER amo. The scope is a 3-9 Leupold.

All of us were using the same rifle, it was a 308 Proof Research Tach II utilizing a WhisperTek silencer.

We shot all three with the same caliber (rifle), the 308 Proof Research Tach II. Could have shot two of them with a bow...
The first shot was a good one and was deadly. The last two most likely were gut shots. Bad angle and should have waited or not shoot at all. Inexperience got the best of you.
My buddy was the shooter and actually missed the last shot. He was trying to drop him before getting close to water not visible in the footage.
Second shot should have been a spin drop shot but ended up in the hump.
We are still razzing him... Figured is was his nerves getting the best of him since this pull ended up being 71 1/2 inches wide.

We tie them to the wing struts under one wing, usually on the left side. I have tied two moose antlers on both sides and flew them both out at the same time.

We use a Lavalier mic with a waist hookup and a boom mic for everything els.

We were using a silencer on the rifle.
Until you've removed moose from water or a swamp and carried them overland to a helpful area.......you have no idea how much work these boys had on their hands after the rifles fired.

Thank you for your expertise in this area because a moose can be upwards 1400 - 1700 pounds and 7 feet tall at the hump. It is a HUGE undertaking packing one out let alone having one go down in deep water.

My friend was promoting WhisperTech silencer and he didn't want to take any chances due to the river so close and just out of the picture.
I'm a hunter but not sure I see any difference between your seeing an animal from the car analogy and using your plane to scout. I understand you can't hunt the same day you fly but but your using the plane to find them.
You should probably leave your truck behind then. In Alaska 99% of the state is inaccessible without a plane.

We are shooting a 308 Proof Research Tach II rifle system in this production.
Pursuing game with not knowing where they are is hunting, flying around for hours looking for them is like flipping through a catalog
CaribouAu thank you for your input. Only one tenth of one percent of Alaska is accessible by road so the airplane is the “vehicle “ needed to get out into Alaska’s remote hunting grounds.
I was flying to our favorite remote fishing area when I found this hunting location.
As the movie clearly shows we called these moose within 150 yards from camp with two only 30 yards from the tent and that isn’t easy.
Unlike road hunting with vehicles or ATV.s or Boat’s a person cannot hunt the same day airborne therefore it’s certainly is not as easy as “ordering “ from a catalog. .

I shoot 300 Win Mag, 190 ren ABLR ammo out to 1000 yards however I personally don't shoot animals past 600 or have the need to.

HardRockMiner thank you for your comment. After 30 years of moose hunting (and just as many moose) across Alaska the biggest concern is shot placement. Second is dropping a 1700 lb moose “before “ it reaches deep water and the river was only 50 yards away with a slew (3 feet of water) just behind it...

Have you ever butchered a moose in chest deep water before? I guarantee you will NEVER wish to do it again...
If you ever decide to hunt brown bears or moose... one shot is NEVER recommended....
@@60InchClub - I'm a 52 year old red blooded Canadian boy and I've shot more moose than I can honestly count. 2 have take more than 1 shot. If you place the shot in the right place and dont chase the animal he wont go more than 50 metres before laying down and dying. To see a grown man who uses what may as well be an RPG 3times on a single animal that isn't even walking away anymore is something that only the greenest of hunters would do. Maybe try telling your clients to wait for the ok before firing more than 1 shot? That's what we tell our clients when we take them hunting big game.

If shooting an animal once without the animal suffering works for you then I’m happy for you. As for me and my family, we will shoot again if it stands there as long as this one did.

HardRockMiner since you mistaken a 308 for a RPG that pretty much speaks volumes for you... I also hold an Alaska guide license and all three of us are federally licensed pilots ( that speaks for itself)

Brent thank you for inquiring. The tent is called an Arctic Oven and it's the warmest tent you can get your hands on. The tent is a bit heavy at 65lbs but as a pilot I don't mind flying it in due it's warmth.

Of course, all that matters is the size of the antlers.
Ron the area we hunted in this video had antler restrictions in place by fish and game such as a minimum of 50 inches wide rack and no less than 4 browtiens on at least one side. Typically a 60" bull normally has 200lbs more meat over a smaller bull say in the 40" range. The moose in this area die of old age.

Scouting is the "KEY" to all success weather it's by ATV, Vehicle, or plane. This production is proof it's possible... Also this wasn't the first time me and my friend have taken three moose from ONE CAMP, one hunt, or one year...
Green is not your color and foul language doesn't make your point more effective but rather just the opposite.
I'm proud to call myself a hunter and fisherman. This however is conspicuous consumption.

One of the tricks we use is breathable chest waders and / or rain gear while processing all critters in Alaska. Trust me you will love this trick and all you need to do afterwards is wade out into the river to rinse off. Also be sure to bring rubber paint gloves to peal off when finished.
Afterwards you wont even know (Smell-bloody) you spent 2 hours processing a giant moose-bear-carabou. I hope this helps everyone reading this because it's been a game changer for me /us...

Nicolas Etapp on this hunt we were lucky enough to harvested the first bulls we called in.
I will say for all of us, “ the moose shown in this production fed three entire families for the winter and longer. I wish YouTub would allow me to show pictures of our full freezer with the rack leaning up against it.
in Canada we don't hunt with planes .We track and call and hunt like men .
Furniture Recycle we don’t hunt with planes either we use them to get to our destination. As the video clearly shows we called all these bulls within 150 yards of our camp. Unless you hunt from from home everyone of us uses some kind of vehicle and the plane is no different. Alaska has laws in place and one of them is you cannot hunt the same day you fly so we have to Wait until the next day unlike people using trucks, boats or ATV’s or horses.
Canadian Hunter here, don't pay attention to the haters, they are jealous because they don't have a plane or cannot access remote areas like this and...because you kept your special place a secret. Share with nobody = doing you a favor and...the moose a favor. I know how the Canadian hunters hunt moose here they drive around until they find one close to the road. Few do it the right way very few!! 1 shot in the head or neck is ethical, 1 perfectly placed shot is ethical for a whitetail but moose simply need more than 1 in most cases why take the chance that's rule #1 in ethics be sure!
why do hunters poke the animal with their gun look at its eyes if it is open it is dead
joe bata I have had moose jump up eyes wide open just feet away. You can poke an animal without him moving but if there is any life left when you touch their eye it will flicker. The truth of the matter is, my father taught me to do it that way. 😜.

I find it amazing when people think they know more than the hunters and people filming the hunt. After gutting the hug moose, the first shot was went through both lungs the same way a traditional bow shot would have. Getting excited about harvesting your first 70 inch bull and providing much needed meat on the table for the family, there will be no apologize given...

Gong show-3 shots at 150 yards? Not worth celebrating boys-one shot drop is the goal.
If we wanted a “one shot drop” we easily could have shot the bull in the next, however risky that close to the river you Dont see or the bog close by.
One in the boiler first then one shot drop is how it's done in “true wilderness”...
Try using a sled and comealong for hauling meat. Your back will thank you.

Our hunts are not scripted and are filmed "as it happens", what you basically see is three friends have fun on a super fun moose hunt.

Must be Sweet to have a healthy moose population and not have to win the lottery for a hunt like we have here in Ontario! The moose have and continue to be sooo mismanaged I see them extinct as a hunting species within 20 years! Too many Black bears mostly and wolves but the bear is the worst culprit next to mismanagement!

Over all Alaska does a great job and honestly keeping foreign states AND federal government out of Alaska management is crucial.
Nice hunt, but the shooter towards the 33 min mark should have hit that Moose struggling in the water again right away. A moment to us is an eternity to a wounded and struggling animal. He should have put it out of its misery right away rather than strutting around pumping his chest.
Thank you for pointing this out and to answer your question.. I did shoot the moose a second time and put it out of it's misery, problem is people don't want to see extra shots especially on networks where it's forbidden. I know I don't...
As for "pumping my chest" I was ecstatic to have harvested the biggest giant moose of my life at that time, not to mention called it from 4 miles away...
I will NOT apologize for hunting and putting food on the table for my family AND spending thousands of dollars preserving that beautiful moose for the rest of my lifetime...

MeatSpear we normally recommend using a 300 Win Mag however you can see this 308 did the job. I have seen 7MM have trouble dropping a moose.
🙄 Never achieved by who? Read the hunting accomplishments of Jack Atcheson! His guiding service has put 5 of the Top 10 moose into the record books and taken many 70"+ moose! So, speak for yourself! Your statement is incorrect! 🤪
I personally Have over ten myself that qualify for the books however I don’t care to put anything into the “record books”. AND I have over 30 moose over 60” in my lifetime, consecutively…

🤠 Congratulations! However, Jack could have probably made the video of 2 over 80", since 5 of the top 10 all times are from his guiding service, including the #1 all time! So, I guess you still have something to "shoot" for? Since he never got that bull that was between 96" and 100" wide that he tells about in his book, mabey you can? Just so you don't think that I was trying to be a jerk, but point out the obvious, here is what I'll do - I'll tell you right where he saw him, when he was hunting! 😯 Now all you have to do is buy his book, because he tells you where he was hunting! 😳 That is Jack Atcheson of Butte, Montana! Also, the town made famous by "Evil Kenevel" - "Butte America"! 🗽 Jack passed away last year, but his sons still run the guiding service! I just wanted to give him his props because he was "one hell of a guy" and a "World Renowned Hunter" on every continent, for many species! As I matter of fact, the last time we talked was at a gun show, at Bob Munden's Table - the World's Fastest Gun (also from Butte, Montana)! I think moose hunting did come up in the conversation, even though I was pointing out some "errors" in his book regarding some record book mule deer he had discussed (Specifically, the reported spreads of the Zimlack bucks - a father/son pair also from Butte who both shot the state record non-typical record bucks in back to back years - both over 40" wide in two places where I hunt)! Just me being me - I guess I just can't shut my mouth? Sorry! Anyway, Happy Hunting! 😜
