Oh my god oh my god i love how we have so high quality cosmere lore content on youtube becauseof creators like you now. I would have killed for this 5 years ago. Keep up the good work!!!
God this video was a masterpiece. I recently completed the canonical cosmere and now reading the noncanon parts(dragonsteel prime, way of kings prime, aether of the night etc) and wish to start scouring the arcanum for words of Brandon. This was nice catch up
Minor correction! Splitering doesn't have to kill a Shard. Each Returned is a Splinter of Endowment and each spren is a combination of splinters of Cultivation and Honor and Cultivation is still alive.
A couple thoughts (full spoilers): Name reveal?!?! For anyone who's wondering about the Virtuosity and Iriali connection: In Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, we learn that Virtuosity "Splintered Herself". We don't know if this means she killed herself and/or tore her Shard apart, or if it means she she just non-lethally pulled pieces of her power off and turned them into something, like how Endowment Splinters herself every time she creates a Returned. This means she may actually not be dead, and could still come into play later on in the story of the cosmere. On Komashi, the Yumi planet near where Virtuosity Splintered herself, the Investiture takes on the colors cyan and magenta. For those of you who don't know, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow are alternative primary colors to the standard Red, Blue and Green. But there's no yellow on Komashi, and Brandon has said the absence in intentional. We learn in WaT that the Iriali are made of Investiture, and the Iriali have metallic golden hair and a religion that states that their god, The One, turned themselves into the Iriali, and that one day The One will reform. The idea is that Virtuosity, either by Splintering herself or afterwards, turned into the Iriali, and that's where the Yellow went. Also to note is that Retribution hasn't left Roshar; He isn't bound there anymore, but now that he's surrounded by enemies on all sides and doesn't have even a fraction of the amount of time he'd thought he'd have to prepare his invasion of the rest of the Cosmere, it would be prudent for him to stick to the territory he owns and try to prepare his soldiers as best he can. Bondsmiths can create a Perpendicularity, but considering that the Perpendicularity in the Iriali Interlude is also called Honor's Perpendicularity, it could be that since Honor's Perpendicularity is missing, people will call just any temporary Perpendicularity his. As for his actual Perpendicularity, it's unclear. It's mentioned that the Perpendicularity moves around and people are advised against hunting for it, and many people think the centrebeat (When time seems to pause at the centre of a Highstorm) is Honor's Perpendicularity in a dilute form, though there are points against this idea too. Also poor Ruin didn't get a little slide with his details ): It also seems that Devotion and Dominion weren't actually on Odium's hitlist (or at least weren't a priority), he just happened to find them first while he was looking for Ambition, who was his true number one target. Also woohoo, I got mentioned! And trivia night?!?! It might actually be a good idea to set up a discord or something else like that now, where people can find announcements and stuff more easily. Great video!
Name reveal was in the channel trailer lol, FAKE FAN (jk I've seen you in the comments since week one and appreciate the support plz don't leave) Oh that's a really good point about Honor's perpendicularity and the iriali! I'll be interested to see if there are any further revelations with that. Oh really! Didn't know that he found Devotion and Dominion on his way, looking for ambition! Both discord and Patreon are ON THE WAY! (Probably around early February!) Just to foster more of a sense of community!
All I know is that eventually, Adonalsium will remember our plight For real though, GREAT VIDEO- and the day you hit 1k too! monumentous occasion Even Medelantorius fears this day, however
Cool video! A few comments: - Autonomy also has an avatar on Obrodai (which we haven’t otherwise seen) - A Shard’s death isn’t always a “Splintering”. Preservation was dying but it was a slow thing. Similarly, Devotion and Dominion weren’t properly Splintered, but left to mix in the Cognitive Realm. - I would argue that the Dor is also a hybrid Shard. I like the way that we now have three unique hybrid Shards: the Dor, without a Vessel and in the Cognitive Realm, Harmony, powerful but hobbled by opposing Intents, and Retribution, dangerous because the Intents align pretty well.
At some point in reading WoT, I figured Honor and Odium would merge. I thought Dalinar would take both shards and become War. But I guess that name is too on the nose :D
It does make sense that the Shard does have a different named light than itself. Cultivation gets Life Light, Odium gets Void Light, and Honor gets Stormlight.
@@zackfritz9491 Yeah that's true. I'm still not a 100% in love with Retribution. It's a mouthful which is ok on a minor character, like Virtuosity, but I'm going to be reading Retribution a lot in the future :D
And for that matter, it is possible to reassemble even Ambition and Virtuosity in that regard as well. It seems that what you need is to hold the largest fragment of the Splintered Shard in order for you to start reclaiming the other pieces of it, like Dalinar was able to do with his link to the Stormfather. So characters like Raoden, and Yumi, who are canonically closer than most to the remnants of the Shards that power them, could in theory reassemble them with a bit of time and effort. That’s my theory at least.
I have a notion about Tones. We know there are 16 Tones for the Shards. We also know that Tones can suffer destructive interference; the Tone of Stormlight and the Tone of Anti-Stormlight, for example. And that to the human ear, those Tones would sound like the same note. I mean from a perspective of physics they would be the same note. Brandon has said that Ruin and Preservation are perfect opposites, but not every Shard has a perfect opposite. Brandon also likes to homage to certain real life things, and the Western octave has 12 notes. So here are my thoughts. The Tone of Ruin and the Tone of Preservation are directly opposed; if you were to generate the Tone of anti-Ruin, it would exactly be the Tone of Preservation, for example. I think that the Shards come in two equal sets. A set of eight standalones, and a set of eight that form four matched opposing pairs. Ruin and Preservation, Odium and Devotion. If this is the case, then eight of the Shards would have Tones representing 8 distinct notes, and the rest would pair up and produce only 4 distinct notes; meaning the 16 Shards of Adonalsium, with their 16 Tones, fill the 12 notes of the Western octave. Just my notion.
My theory is that we misunderstood who the survival shard is. The best way to hide is make everyone think you are dead. I think it is virtuosity. He or she splintered the shard in three and left two pieces behind as a kind of fake corpse. A hint towards this is the missing third Hion colour. A push, a Pull and a neutral. Take a close look at the yumi cover, besides cyan and magenta, we see yellow. A second hint towards this is given in WaT, the way the colours seem to split in the spiritual realm visions.
And with the Iriali theory, maybe there were only so many habitated worlds as their religion says, when virtuosity may have made it, so the iriali were bound to come across virtuosity's hiding spot
Minor correction. The natives of Roshar are the Singers. You said the Listeners. The Listener are the group that changed their form to Dull Form to escape the False Desolation (thus escaping the effects of the imprisonment of Mishram) and settled on the Shattered Plans. Overall, I liked the video.
Imagine if someone was able to merge the Shards of Dominion and Ambition somehow. That would be a huge threat to the Cosmere. I wonder what such a hybrid Shards would look like. How would we call it even? Tyranny would be a great name I think
The best combination for a new universal god in the Cosmere would be mixing Devotion, Endowment, Mercy, Honor, Cultivation, Reason, and maybe Virtuosity. I would like to call this mixed Shard ‘Benevolence’
Spren as they’re commonly seen on Roshar are splinters of Honor mostly, with some being of Cultivation and Voidspren being of Odium. There were spren on Roshar before Honor arrived that were of Adonalsium, but the only remnants of those in the current day is the Wind and the Stones. It is implied that the Nightwatcher is an augmented spren that predated the shards arrival as well.
I wonder if somehow an Elantrian, say, Raoden, could come up with such a complex Aon, as to pull the Dor out of the Cognitive Realm, back into the Spiritual, and through the command of the Aon, reassemble the two Shards in the process, either as two distinct Shards or as a new conjoined One. We see that it is possible to reassemble a Shards in WaT, so we know it is possible that it might happen.
I don’t know how to reassemble Ambition though, kkkk. Maybe the Evil on Threnody is a large Splinter of it, but it is not exactly a peaceful one, or one that would want a Connection with sentient beings, seeing what it did to the Old World there, but I could be wrong. Maybe if the personality of the person is Ambitious enough then maybe, but that is a big maybe. And besides the Evil might be just one Splinter of Ambition, we don’t know where the majority of the other Splinters of the Shards are after all, so that one might require a lot more effort to put back together
The video turned out great! Thanks for asking me to cameo!

Oh yeah you’re totally right, it is the Singers! Thanks for pointing that out!
Is this technically right? The Singers did not sing prior to Honor coming to Roshar.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t spren Splinters from Adonalsium like the Wind? Or idk, i just finished WaT and I still can’t remember 😅
