You have to create your project using an HDR codec (Rec.2020, etc). Got a video in the works which explains some of the confusion DJI has created around the term HDR cause it was always somewhat vague but they have only made it worse.
I haven't found any video talking about it, but is it possible to record in d-log and then use a lut to create rec.2020 hdr pq or hlg from it? I do this already with my fujifilm camera and I was wondering if it is possible to do the same with d-log. By how gorgeous this footage already looks I'm curious to see how much more highlights gets preserved with log vs hlg
You actually have a wider dynamic range in HLG and also better preservation of details. Forget which creator just did a deep dive on it but it made me feel totally validated for switching from D-LOG to HLG years ago. D-LOG does seem to offer a little more flexibility with colors but otherwise HLG seems to be a winner. That said, yeah you can convert any footage to HDR. I don’t know about a LUT but I simply just open up the vectorscopes and raise the highlights up until they are almost near peaking on the expanded HDR miange.
Very great video and color grade mate! I would love to know more about how you made the post prod (software, workflow, luts or no luts...). Also why shooting in HLD and not DLOG? You always shoot in HLG?
HLG is easier to process, i.e. it is faster to obtain a satisfactory effect if you only want to obtain natural colors. D-Cine seems to me to be better for heavy processing, if you want to strongly change the colors and mood of the film. D-Cine is also not particularly difficult to process, but now when i have a choice at home, I choose HLG.
Breathtaking footage! Super inspiring for me, just got the Mavic 3 Classic and I’m looking forward to taking it on many adventures. I particularly liked the couple of shots that had steam/fog in them as well as the nighttime ones. Awesome job!
Thanks DPend! Hope you are enjoying that new Mavic 3 Classic. Do be careful when flying around steam/fog because obviously water and electronics don’t mix and propellers can ice up in temperatures in the mid 30°s F. But otherwise enjoy the cool weather phenomenon and get dramatic photos.
Really nice video man 😍 . I used to record in HLG not long ago, but in Davinci Resolve, I still don't know how to get the best quality, so recently, I started recording in D-Log, and it seems like I handle it better. What editing program do you use? And what have you exported it in? Rec.2020 gamma 2.4 or rec.2020 HLG?
Thanks! I edit in FCPX but honestly kinda considering switching to Davinci. I export usually in ProRes using HLG cause that’s the most universal and open HDR format.
@DigitalTechReviewsTips your videos look wow, my Samsung tv see them as HDR, I wanna buy a monitor for photo/video hobbyists but not sure what to buy, thx for your reply.
Thanks! Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment! With HDR footage I generally like to pull up the vector scopes in FCPX (or whatever editing program I’m using) and tweak the brightness values until I get the brightness and darkest values in the image pretty close to 0 & 125 (the minimum and maximum values). As for what file format, I only was able to render it out in ProRes if I wanted to keep it in the HDR format. It’s in a 5K resolution project that I customized to match the dimensions of the Mavic 3 footage exactly.
Hello! I love your video and I dream to get the same results! I 'm trying to shoot in HLG with my Mavic 3. I'm on FCPX. my HLR videos are always too colorful and over saturated... Can you share some adjustments you did to get this result? (sorry I'm French)
Just got my first drone, DJI mini 3 and I really love flying it. How do you like the Mavic 3 or air 2s compared to the mini? I love the weight and portability of the mini but man the camera on the Mavic 3 is amazing, though like 3 times the weight when you count extra batteries.
Just finishing up a review of the Mini 3 Pro where I talk about it vs. the Mavic 3. Basically I think the Mavic 3 clearly has better image quality when pushed but if you shoot in good situations (and are just doing it for fun on social media) then the Mini 3 Pro will be just fine and you get to enjoy the light weight, small size and better battery life.
@@DigitalTechReviewsTips thank you! Yes I do love how its so small and light even when carrying extra batteries. With the Mavic it’s maybe 3 or 4 times heavier, which for right now I’m not willing to do. Maybe when I get much better flying the mini then I’ll think about upgrading. Thanks so much for your advice.
@@Delarosafilms Actually working on a video to explain this because it's really confusing but basically the Mini 3 Pro records "HDR" in the sense that in slightly higher dynamic range than normal but still recorded using the same format (Rec.709). The Mavic 3 has the ability to record in Rec.2020 (HLG mode) which has an actual expanded range to record the brightness values.
It really is awesome! But yeah, the files can be pretty rough for computers. Have you tired tried 4K with HLG mode to see if it’s any easier? From what I’ve seen you only lose a little bit of sharpness.
@@DigitalTechReviewsTips it’s so awesome. Thanks for replying 😃. I tried with 4K yes and it does look stunning. Although when I’ll get a new mac it will support 5.1K easily. The sharpness on 4K is great already 😁 thanks for your advice and your great video. 😄👍👋👌
No, just edited this in HLG cause it’s more backward compatible for people without an HDR display. However, it’s fairly straightforward to convert to HDR10+ (though for DolbyVision I think I may need a license) and something I may consider in the future. Most modern displays should support both HDR10+ & HLG.
Wonderful video! Such impressive footage - Well done mate ;)

How did you get TH-cam to recognise the hdr?

@@DigitalTechReviewsTips thanks for the response, I found a video explaining how it’s done in sony vegas and they said the same as you. :)

Absolutely Outstanding!
Awesome video. Was this shot in HLG in camera, then color graded? What are your thoughts on DLOG-M for HDR (BT2020) delivery? 😊

Great. Could you share timeline settings and export settings, for HDR best effect?
I made a video about how to use HLG on my Channel :) consider to check it out if you want and say Hi :)

Just the built-in monitor of my M1 MacBook Pro 16"

Great footage 👏 .Can you export in hdr on the free version of davinci resolve. 👍
Thanks! I personally use Final Cut Pro X, but from what I can tell HDR export and color grading is only available in the paid version of Davinci.
El mini3 pro puede hacer eso en HDR?
My Spanish isn’t great but I’m 100% confident to say “No, the Mini 3 Pro doesn’t have HDR like the Mavic 3 series does”
@@DigitalTechReviewsTips But why does it say on the box that it records in HDR, how do you achieve a result similar to that of the Mavic 3?
