Beautiful, i had a friend who played in The Porthywaen Silver Band, he tragically died before Christmas, the band played it at his funeral, it brought a lump to my throat then, and listening to this.

A Northern English brass band playing Abide With Me is a message from Heaven:
*Repent ye, and believe the Gospel.* Mark 1: 15

Performance like this are the reason people fell in love with brass band. Listening such a perforance, you hear a lovely played hymn, but above all and more important, the players/band share their emotions with us and tell us about their respect and awe
to human, music and brass band history ... and that what music really is (and touches us).
And its the result, when 20 people (like you and me) focus their mindset and heart to one musical impression.
But for correctnes I have to say, the band has realy lots of realy bloody good players in their rows. E.g. the two 3rd Cornets accompain absolute lovely during the 2nd stanza/pass. this band realy has more potential then many
    BB I've seen.

      Well said.
Many of the players have superb innate musicianship, with good senses of pitch, balance, tempo and rhythm.
It all simply flows along from start to finish, essentially gentle rock and roll.
Fine technical ability too, so good that it's easily overlooked. Like being in a hall with well designed air conditioning and public address systems - they work so well that many people never notice them.
      A wonderful ensemble.
That's why this performance is so good.
Not because of the incompetent jerky conductor. Many of these players could do that job better.
But they hardly need conducting anyway.
Not enough break between lines though - just slightly more would have done fine.

Has the audio been edited on this? This sounds very "indoors" at a concert hall rather than the natural acoustic of the outdoors...

This is lovely and played at the right, slow tempo. It's a shame you can't hear the finer low harmonies as well but it must have been really nice to hear.

Beautiful - and so rare to see such clear and excellent conducting !
And still there are morons in the back ground not even pausing.......

      Conducting is very poor.
Watch him at the start - gives two beats, then holds hands up, pauses, and at some indeterminate time, with no relevance to his initial beat or tempo indications, flicks hands down for start.
During the performance his rhythm is all over the place. No sense that this music should simply flow along from start to finish - like gentle rock and roll.
Many of the players have superb innate musicianship, with good sense of rhythm and flow. That is why this performance is as good as it is.
      Not the incompetent jerky conductor.

Very good rendition. Thank you..Please keep up the good work.. God needs us more than ever in this "covid crisis."
Prayer to the Holy Spirit (St Augustine)
Breathe in me O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy.
Act in me O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy.
Draw my heart O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy.
Strengthen me O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy.
Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy. Amen

Breaks between lines are inadequate. They run together, more so where the chord at the end of a line is the same as the next one.
But that's a big improvement on wind and vocal performances with weak shallow breathing, with interruptions and delays all over the place.
In this case just slightly more break would be better.
Pauses only in tone, never interrupting the rhythm and losing it as many performers do, including English choirs.

Das 4-Gang P-Line ist mir zu teuer und der Übersetzungsbereich für ein Reiserad nicht gespreizt genug. Meine beiden Bromptons H6RD und M6LD haben 2x3-Schaltung mit 44x13/16 Zähnen.

Good to hear an instrumental performance with well controlled steady tone, not trashed by the usual hideous quivering "vibrato".
A little in the second verse solo though, which spoils it a bit.
Good rhythm and phrasing are worth far more than quivering.
    It destroys them.

  • @LaurieWilliams-lk8fc
    @LaurieWilliams-lk8fc 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

That long dragged out delay before the last verse is badly inconsistent with the lovely simple nature of the rest of the performance.
A silly trick that sounds pretentious and spoils the music.
    Whose idea was that?
Just continue as before, with the same high technical and musical quality and slight changes in tempo, rhythm and dynamics as appropriate.
    Not pointless silly tricks.

  • @LaurieWilliams-lk8fc
    @LaurieWilliams-lk8fc 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Conducting is incompetent.
At the start he gives two beats, then holds his hands up and pauses.
Then, at some indeterminate time, with no relevance to his initial beat or tempo indications, he flicks his hands down for start.
That’s like starting a car engine, engaging a gear, then switching the engine off, then pressing the accelerator pedal.
During the performance his rhythm is a bit erratic. Much less sense of the lovely simple flow that this music should have than many of the players.
All his hand movements are flicks and jerks. None smooth.
On some beats he flicks and jerks his hands twice.
All this must have been very annoying for the players who have their own good sense of the music.
Many of them could have done the conducting job better, but they hardly need conducting anyway.
People can easily anticipate and work with beats given as gentle movements, but not ones indicated with rapid flicking.
For such gentle music all his movements should have been gentle, not sudden. No flicking, no jerking, no lurching.
He should have given good clear indications of beat and tempo at the start and directly continued that rhythm into the start of the playing, then been a subtle mostly unobtrusive guide, mostly leaving the players to feel their way through, with a bit of leadership for the slight natural rubato that such music should have, and a well controlled mild slowing at the end.
He did that last part, but in the same flicking jerking manner.
And he should have ensured that they left slight breaks between lines.
