Personally when asked I say I'm in Richmond when in reality I'm in New Kent purely to avoid the "where's that"? thatll come from saying the name Ashburn and other smaller areas near major cities. Now if they're locals talking to locals then yes its irritating. Example my helper lives in Fredericksburg as far as I knew. Turned out he lives between culpeper and fredericksburg and it's more inconvenient to come to richmond then say Warrenton area where we work near a great deal.
I used to live in VA and regret leaving, it is so beautiful and there is so much history. We wld spend almost every weekend visiting different historical sites.
@@josetteskinner4200 one of my fav places in va is Montpelier, james madison's home is there and James Madison university. So, so beautiful, it rendered us all a little ga ga goo goo. The sunlight seemed a little brighter or something. The whole area around appomattox is another one of those places. Going up into the mountains on cold cold winter days, I really enjoyed tht, made u feel alive and I always slept really really good those nites. Cld go on and on. I miss va so much. I regretted moving too. I lived in Northern/Southern Virginia, DC, and Maryland areas most of my life until it got too expensive, too crowded, and the crime rate increased. I also liked the history for all three places and there was much more to do than other places I have lived.

I do miss the historical places tho, and once we got out of no va, it was usually always beautiful , I swear tht in some places , like around appomattox, the sunshine seemed a bit more sparkly than it does here. If money was tight, there was always the mall and smithsonian to visit. I do miss it ! 💙va🐎
I friggin love Virginia.. I'm from Germany. I love the mountains, lushes greens. And the people there.. i don't like the big cities or mainstream tourism destinations.. Virginia feels like my second home
I think that's just Lynchburg. It's the only place I've ever experienced microbursts and ice storms (with tops of trees literally exploding). We lost power all the time; thank goodness our house had a working fireplace.
I have lived in the Shenandoah Valley my whole life, and I highly agree with your final comment about how charming the valley is. It is the PERFECT place to live in the entire state - we have the mountains, the Shenandoah River, tons of cool caverns (rimshot) to tour, national/state parks, wineries and breweries, and we are JUST far enough from DC to not have that NOVA/city bustle or traffic yet still just an hour drive to DC.
I grew up in Alexandria, and my parents held the Valley close to their hearts. Generally speaking, we loved the Commonwealth. It was home to both sides of my parents' families. When I retired and the last person in my family died, I moved to the Valley. I didn't know anyone in your Valley, but I knew I would be safe. After all, it was my beloved Virginia. Prior to that move, it never occurred to me that anything or anyone could distance Virginia from my heart. Certainly, it never occurred to me that Virginians themselves would go out of their way to do it.
You forgot to mention theres farms and trees everywhere with nothing to do and only 2 big cities of Harrisonburg and Winchester with some stuff to do and DC is 3 hours away not an hour lol
I live in prince William..and it sucks..too much crime, traffic..I cant wait to retire and move out of this area..how ever if you looking for jobs it's a great place to work..and build your career!!

I grew up in northern Virginia. It's a beautiful place and so lush with trees everywhere. I ended up in California which is the opposite. It's dry and dusty here. Theres way more concrete than trees. If I could do things over I never would have left Virginia.
Good to know! I’ve lived in California all of my life and I’m over it! Don’t want to raise my son out here the culture is trash! My family and I indulge in trail walking, hiking, and just love being outdoors. In order to access that we have to take long drives. I will look into moving here.
We visited Virginia a few months back and were very impressed by the welcoming we received from the people we met.. coming back next week to celebrate our anniversary.. and giving serious consideration to retire here in 8 years.
The very first time I went to the US I went to a boarding school in Staunton VA and I completely fell in love with the place! Virginia is so green, charming, and beautiful!! Great people too! At least on the west side

When I go driving through the US the state of Virginia is one of the stretches of highway I enjoy the most I enjoy the East End & South Virginia but especially in the west mountains of Virginia seems so peaceful and scenic
The tidewater area was ALL Wrong! Unless I’m missing something? The Tidewater and Hampton Roads/7 cities is the same area. There are a ton of 7/11s in VA beach/Norfolk 😂

Thanks for doing this video! I'm from Richmond, Virginia. Around here you’ll find vehicles proudly sporting the “RVA” bumper sticker in abundance. It's unique that it's one of the only cities in the US that has Class III and IV river rapids running right through the downtown. You also forgot to mention Virginia has two major theme parks. Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

I’m from Virginia and, because of job relocation, I lived in most of these areas this guy speaks about. Some of what he says is true, however, his condescending attitude is too arrogant to overlook. Some of the quiet and naturally beautiful rural areas are excellent for families.
I've lived in Tidewater Virginia (you had it in the wrong place) and Richmond my entire 60 years and don't even know what a tobacco plant looks like nor even knew cotton ever grew up here. Peanuts, yes. Went to Virgina Tech, half of Techs from NOVA and they always go back home to NOVA. Dad pays the tuition. The other half of us were from somewhere else and built up a lot of student loan debt. Yep lots of drinking, but we graduated, left the Island of Utopia away from the real world and never went back either. You missed Williamsburgs, William and Mary College. Anybody NOT from NOVA, hates NOVA and doesn't even want to go there because of the traffic. The rest of the state is just for Novinians to pass thru on the way somewhere else. If they didn't fly. You can definitely see the change over from red to blue, especially in anywhere urban. That has everything to do with flight from some other states ideals, then transplanting themselves here about, voting for those same ideals ran them off in the first place. Habits hard to die I guess. That and Corporate development spurring transplants. The Virginian hasn't changed much but as they die off, that way of thinking gets diluted into the Newby scheme of things. They're being replaced by the more progressive. Tradition is starting to lose its grip and no longer rules us. Appreciate the Vid!
I live in Yorktown, Virginia, a few miles from NASA as well as the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. We have hundreds of PhDs and other scientists in Hampton Roads. You left out Busch Gardens (voted "The Most Beautiful Theme Park in the World" for over twenty years) and Water Country USA too. Kings Dominion is not too far from here. We also have Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Christopher Newport University, the College of William & Mary, and the gorgeous Colonial Parkway. I can't remember the last time I saw someone wearing a camouflage outfit, and we're not economically depressed, as expensive homes are everywhere. We even have running water and phones now.
I look forward to watching this. Lived in Virginia Beach for a year and NoVa for two - they contrasted in so many ways. Absolutely loved NoVa and wish I hadn't left, but the cost of living there is astronomical and getting worse (think CA level). Great employment opportunities there though and so much to do due to its proximity to DC.
Cost of living is pretty high, but to be fair Loudoun and Fairfax County are #1 and #2 in highest median income per household. Hopefully we don't get the crazy taxes CA has that is driving everyone out and leading to huge homeless populations.

Absolutely true, Loudoun County in Northern Virginia is the data center capital of the world. 70% of all internet traffic for the world 🌎 goes through this one county. It’s the richest county in the U.S. and one of the snobbiest ones too.

Too funny and so true! I’m a native of Martinsville by that tiny speedway. Went to college at JMU in Harrisonburg ( a college town I was disappointed you didn’t mention btw) and reside in NoVA since graduation. It truly is like two different states and yes southern rural VA detests NoVA folks, mostly due to politics, diversity, and the socioeconomic divide. What you really came up short with in this video is how breathtakingly beautiful VA is from the NoVA wine and horse country to the Shenandoah Valley, the Appalachians and Bay and beachfront. Absolutely gorgeous state!

Well, I have lived in Virginia most of my like. I left while in the Army for six years. I think you have hit every bad stereotype known in Virginia. While you may mean to say it in satire, it really doesn't come across as that. It comes off as condescending. Any yes, everyone outside NOVA pretty much does hate NOVA.
I use to live in Virginia, Virginia Beach and Fairfax, now I live in Florida, Orlando area. There are things I miss about Virginia, such as visiting many historic site since I'm a History buff. But there are things I like living here in Florida, like being near Disney World and having more than one choice of beaches to go to. I'm not a mountain boy, so I don't miss those much, though they were pretty to see from a distance. I don't miss the traffic in Northern Virginia, and I laugh when I hear locals here complain about the traffic here which is a breeze, though I do get frusterated when I get caught in it.
Loved the video Nick. I grew up in Virginia and lived most of my life in Virginia-minus the first 6 years of my life and 9 years active military service. Grew up in Lynchburg and lived in Norfolk for 31 years. Also I have traveled all around Virginia so much of this video is accurate. I am back in Lynchburg. I'm not happy that Virginia has shifted left in it's politics and we have Northern Virginia, Tidewater, Charlottesville, and other urban areas but much good is happening in my neck of Virginia. Downtown Lynchburg is making a comeback and having Liberty University hasn't hurt although many in Lynchburg may not see it that way. I also like to say that Lynchburg is blessed with no interstate highway.
I have a cousin in Virginia in Lynchburg Virginia that is. I love that town it is a great town and I hope to go visit this next year. They have lived there probably 40 years.❤️ I live in Oregon and the only thing I don't like about that area is the humidity. I don't know how you guys handle it but I guess if you don't know any different. Of course I live out here where it's wet about six months out of the year so I guess it's just the way it goes

In Vienna- Middle class houses are being torn down and replaced with “Mc Mansions”. Demographics changing drastically/ SNOBBY owners of the 1.5 million $$ homes, YEAH! ....NO MORE small-town charm for Vienna, so sad.

Love your stuff brother, but TIDEWATER is not this area, The Tidewater Region of Virginia, also (called the Coastal Plain Region) received its name because the major rivers that flow through the region rise and fall with the tide from the ocean. The Tidewater is the eastern most region of Virginia. It includes the land along the Chesapeake Bay and the Eastern Shore. AKA Hampton roads
Loved your commentary on my home state! As a Virginia native whose family goes back to the very beginning in Jamestown - I have a special place for this state in my heart! You kind of hit the nail right on the head, I’m from what I like to call the “sweet spot” of the state above Richmond where we are 1 hr from Richmond,1 hr from Charlottesville , and 2 hours from Virginia Beach… we are also the stereotypical family who still has a tobacco farm (we also grow soybeans) 4 generations deep and 200 acres of farmland. Both my Grandparents and my Parents not only sold tobacco to Marlboro (our tobacco is one of the farms included in the Virginia blend) but they all also retired from Philip Morris! Honestly growing up in this state is what first triggered my deep love of history and ended up inspiring me to become a schoolteacher so a lot of the history doesn’t get lost in the next generation.

However when I made this comment I was thinking about everything else from the the destroying of statues to the people fight to change how they teach history in school. I'm not just talking about the Civil War either they are attacking George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. These were all Virginians that should be talked about and not erased. The good and the bad. I know he's not a Virginian, but they just tore down a statue of Abraham Lincoln. This destroying of our history needs to stop.

I'm from Hawaii and all 33 of my family members have now been living between Spotsylvania & Fredericksburg, Virginia for almost a year now and we love it !! If more people, in hawaii, knew about the true nature of Virginia, the population of both Spotsylania & Fredericksburg, Virginia would go up about 100,000 people...lol...it's just so naturally beautiful here without all the artificial stuff that you see in Waikiki and other part of Oahu. We think everything is so cheap here where we live; from the cost of buying a home to the cost of buying a lot to build a house on to the cost of groceries and gas to the cost of going to a really nice water park. Hawaii is in the dumps right now and at least 40% of the island of Oahu's population are jobless which beats out the 1929 Great Depression level of joblessness. We are very happy with Virginia and have no plans on moving back to Hawaii under NO circumstance !! We also found out, quite quickly, that we were not the only native hawaiians here in Virginia. We have met plenty of other Hawaiians that are located here who are NOT in the military! We also have met some Tungans, lots of filipinos, some micronesians, some polynesians and plenty of Samoans, which are all major groups back home in Hawaii(island of Oahu).

We are still here in Virginia and life get's better and better by the month. Recently, I saw a youtuber, who was making a youtube video and in the background I saw the elevated mono-rail train pass. He turns around and says, "wow, this is the first time I've seen the train actual move on the rail.."...lol....My point is, this monstrosity of a rail is well over budgeted by a couple billion dollars by now and it will cost the taxpayers big time. Inflation for EVERYTHING will go up big time and "new ways" of taxing people(think charging people, per mile, to drive their cars on the island, even those islands where people are NOT using the mono-rail). Visitors, vacationers alike will be charged extra taxes to stay in their hotel rooms. But, here in Virginia, life is soooooo good...not perfect mind you, but GREAT to a 360 degree level 😝

Virginia native here. Great video; I really enjoyed it. I do a couple of bones to pick. The area you called Tidewater is actually Southside. Tidewater is an older name for Hampton Roads. Virginia Tech is not Virginia Tech University; it's just Virginia Tech. Its official name is Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Sometimes referred to as VPI. Tobacco was a very important crop throughout Virginia's history. Cotton wasn't. There's a very small area where it can be grown. That would be Southside. It's too cold in the rest of the state. I agree with you that Virginia is more a Mid-Atlantic state rather than a Southern one. I've watched that change in my lifetime. The state is very different than it was when I was a child. I think it's been change for the better although I know a lot of people don't agree. And even though I live in Florida now, Virginia will always be home to me.

You totally skipped Williamsburg and Yorktown. Tons of history in that area. They also have Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. 2 Great amusement parks to visit.
I grew up in the midwest and I am so thankful I have lived in Virginia most of my adult life. The small towns are charming. Brick streets, and they plant flowers. Some places are very beautiful.

The sports teams are starting to win in DC. I like the working class population in DC and Baltimore, very friendly, very humble people. Then you get a lot of military people who are very humble. .....Then you get the bubble of elitist and politicians. You know, the ones who complain about not getting into Harvard and Yale. Still, there’s enough people that make it a pleasant place to be.
I grew up in northern VA, but now that I’ve lived in several other states, realized how good it was there. Beautiful lush greens, historical vibes, clean, low crime rate (in most places), super good shopping mall (Tysons corner), plenty of parking, urban but not too high taxes, etc. I took my husband there to visit and he loved it! I swear someday we will move out of this big liberal city sh*thole that we currently live in.
New and progressive isn’t always a good thing nor is staying stuck in the past but I think Virginia has been going through a rough patch for a while and I’m not sure if she’ll ever pick herself back up
Grew up in Norfolk, lived many years in Nova, and bought a house in Hampton Roads area recently--but, oh, I miss the country around Fauquier and Culpeper counties. Very much old school Virginia and so beautiful.

I live in Northern Virginia, I think a large majority are very liberal. I am conservative, I still love living in Virginia. Williamsburg is my favorite College of William and Mary.
I love Virginia. Its sad you paint it in such a bad light. The people are awesome. We are a multicultural state. There are people from over 130 countries living in my town. That town would be under one of those rebel hats on your map. Our town considers itself progressive and has been for decades. I have four college degrees and have left Virginia to live in other states but kept coming back. The crime rate here is low and we have hiking, fishing, camping, caving, boating and any other outdoor activities you can think of. By the way those "folks who do civil war reinactments" do it for tourism. They are also the people who lost more youth in World War 2. Stop by the World War Two Memorial next time you travel through. People love our Blue Ridge Parkway. Virginia is a beautiful state. I hope living here you will experience the wonders of our state and the friendliness of our residents.
@@woodynorris8224 I went to U of R for a couple of years and I have college friends scattered all over the state. Norfolk, Newport News, and Hampton probably aren't the most desirable part, but Williamsburg is really nice. I would love to move back there or to North Carolina, both of those places put Texas to shame.
James Madison University in Harrisonburg should have been mentioned as well, as it has become a wildly popular option for potential students living in PA, NJ, NY etc. to get a great education!

Just like anywhere else we have our cities and countries we have our good and our bad.I'll tell you one thing Virginia is one of the friendliest States you're ever going to visit. We have beautiful mountains awesome beaches. We have a lot of different opportunities for. And we love everybody to come on over.
I’m from NoVa and I love it. There are a lot of entitled jerks that’s true. But I was raised here and it will always feel like home to me. Contrary to popular belief there are nice polite people here too. You just gotta find us. 😉 I like where I live because I feel close to everything: DC, amazing dining and shopping, the mountains are just a couple hours away as well as the beach and lakes, it’s a diverse area with lots different perspectives which I love and there are a lot of interesting people here. ☺️
I grew up in Virginia and even though I still love my homestate I can't stand it anymore. Left 8 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. Never going back there. Yeah it's changing but not for the better. It's lost it's identity over the years. NOVA and the Virginia Beach area are trying to force the whole state to change into something like California. So yeah, Virginia hates NOVA
If that’s the case then if you ever come I would avoid Richmond, it’s like a whole new place and most Virginians outside Richmond are pretty intimidated by it including myself bc I live a calmer suburban area which is actually a lot of Virginia. I would say the best place that I love to go to wind down is prob south hill it’s a pretty small town and very enjoyable

I lived in Michigan until I was 28 then moved to Big Stone Gap, Virginia in 1985 to work in the gas fields. I grabbed a pen to write down everything you got wrong but you pretty much nailed it. After the War of Northern aggression the carpetbaggers descended on the place mostly from Philadelphia with their strong armed thugs and pushed the local elite off their land and stole 90% of the mineral rights. The elite still prospered even with 10% of their original holdings but the wealth of this area was hauled off and still is even after 145 years. After 35 years my Michigan accent has softened and it is now home. I love the people because they don't fall for all the mainstream media tomfoolery and don't take themselves so seriously and are able to laugh at their own failings. I have a timeshare in Williamsburg and we love experiencing this college town every other year. Good job.

I'm from the Winchester Area (the tippy top of the triangle) and it may as well be a part of Northern virginia, TBH. Its starting to feel more and more like a DC suburb Every year, while still feeling like the southern parts in terms of culture. Its a unique blend, really.
We moved here to Williamsburg March 2020 from Tennessee and we love it here.... I walk every morning at Colonial Williamsburg and each time I moved by the Beauty of CW... 💞💞💞💞

I grew up in Virginia Beach and now I live in Northern Virginia and omg it's so funny. In the Hampton area we use our area code as an identifier... That and using navy Federal. Like if you don't have navy federal and you live in Virginia Beach... Sorry that's not allowed xD. But anyways, we're so shielded from the rest of the state Nova? Rva? Who is she? Like my boyfriend grew up in Colonial Beach and his mom grew up in Alexandria and like even tho it is all the same state, everything is so different. That being said, I miss Kroger. Kroger come up north because I miss you so much.

Personally when asked I say I'm in Richmond when in reality I'm in New Kent purely to avoid the "where's that"? thatll come from saying the name Ashburn and other smaller areas near major cities. Now if they're locals talking to locals then yes its irritating. Example my helper lives in Fredericksburg as far as I knew. Turned out he lives between culpeper and fredericksburg and it's more inconvenient to come to richmond then say Warrenton area where we work near a great deal.
I'm from Sterling and I always say Loudoun County or Northern VA. I never say D.C. because that's a whole separate culture in and of itself.

@@josetteskinner4200 one of my fav places in va is Montpelier, james madison's home is there and James Madison university. So, so beautiful, it rendered us all a little ga ga goo goo. The sunlight seemed a little brighter or something. The whole area around appomattox is another one of those places. Going up into the mountains on cold cold winter days, I really enjoyed tht, made u feel alive and I always slept really really good those nites. Cld go on and on. I miss va so much. I regretted moving too. I lived in Northern/Southern Virginia, DC, and Maryland areas most of my life until it got too expensive, too crowded, and the crime rate increased. I also liked the history for all three places and there was much more to do than other places I have lived.

I do miss the historical places tho, and once we got out of no va, it was usually always beautiful , I swear tht in some places , like around appomattox, the sunshine seemed a bit more sparkly than it does here. If money was tight, there was always the mall and smithsonian to visit. I do miss it ! 💙va🐎

I have lived in the Shenandoah Valley my whole life, and I highly agree with your final comment about how charming the valley is. It is the PERFECT place to live in the entire state - we have the mountains, the Shenandoah River, tons of cool caverns (rimshot) to tour, national/state parks, wineries and breweries, and we are JUST far enough from DC to not have that NOVA/city bustle or traffic yet still just an hour drive to DC.
I grew up in Alexandria, and my parents held the Valley close to their hearts. Generally speaking, we loved the Commonwealth. It was home to both sides of my parents' families. When I retired and the last person in my family died, I moved to the Valley. I didn't know anyone in your Valley, but I knew I would be safe. After all, it was my beloved Virginia. Prior to that move, it never occurred to me that anything or anyone could distance Virginia from my heart. Certainly, it never occurred to me that Virginians themselves would go out of their way to do it.
You forgot to mention theres farms and trees everywhere with nothing to do and only 2 big cities of Harrisonburg and Winchester with some stuff to do and DC is 3 hours away not an hour lol

I grew up in northern Virginia. It's a beautiful place and so lush with trees everywhere. I ended up in California which is the opposite. It's dry and dusty here. Theres way more concrete than trees. If I could do things over I never would have left Virginia.

Don’t want to raise my son out here the culture is trash! My family and I indulge in trail walking, hiking, and just love being outdoors. In order to access that we have to take long drives.

We visited Virginia a few months back and were very impressed by the welcoming we received from the people we met.. coming back next week to celebrate our anniversary.. and giving serious consideration to retire here in 8 years.

Thanks for doing this video! I'm from Richmond, Virginia. Around here you’ll find vehicles proudly sporting the “RVA” bumper sticker in abundance. It's unique that it's one of the only cities in the US that has Class III and IV river rapids running right through the downtown. You also forgot to mention Virginia has two major theme parks. Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

I work in Collegeville (not a student), and it is heaven. Great hiking is thirty minutes away but I also have a decent job because of the school.
I've lived in Tidewater Virginia (you had it in the wrong place) and Richmond my entire 60 years and don't even know what a tobacco plant looks like nor even knew cotton ever grew up here. Peanuts, yes. Went to Virgina Tech, half of Techs from NOVA and they always go back home to NOVA. Dad pays the tuition. The other half of us were from somewhere else and built up a lot of student loan debt. Yep lots of drinking, but we graduated, left the Island of Utopia away from the real world and never went back either. You missed Williamsburgs, William and Mary College. Anybody NOT from NOVA, hates NOVA and doesn't even want to go there because of the traffic. The rest of the state is just for Novinians to pass thru on the way somewhere else. If they didn't fly. You can definitely see the change over from red to blue, especially in anywhere urban. That has everything to do with flight from some other states ideals, then transplanting themselves here about, voting for those same ideals ran them off in the first place. Habits hard to die I guess. That and Corporate development spurring transplants. The Virginian hasn't changed much but as they die off, that way of thinking gets diluted into the Newby scheme of things. They're being replaced by the more progressive. Tradition is starting to lose its grip and no longer rules us. Appreciate the Vid!

I live in Yorktown, Virginia, a few miles from NASA as well as the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. We have hundreds of PhDs and other scientists in Hampton Roads. You left out Busch Gardens (voted "The Most Beautiful Theme Park in the World" for over twenty years) and Water Country USA too. Kings Dominion is not too far from here. We also have Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Christopher Newport University, the College of William & Mary, and the gorgeous Colonial Parkway. I can't remember the last time I saw someone wearing a camouflage outfit, and we're not economically depressed, as expensive homes are everywhere. We even have running water and phones now.

I look forward to watching this. Lived in Virginia Beach for a year and NoVa for two - they contrasted in so many ways. Absolutely loved NoVa and wish I hadn't left, but the cost of living there is astronomical and getting worse (think CA level). Great employment opportunities there though and so much to do due to its proximity to DC.
Cost of living is pretty high, but to be fair Loudoun and Fairfax County are #1 and #2 in highest median income per household. Hopefully we don't get the crazy taxes CA has that is driving everyone out and leading to huge homeless populations.

Too funny and so true! I’m a native of Martinsville by that tiny speedway. Went to college at JMU in Harrisonburg ( a college town I was disappointed you didn’t mention btw) and reside in NoVA since graduation. It truly is like two different states and yes southern rural VA detests NoVA folks, mostly due to politics, diversity, and the socioeconomic divide. What you really came up short with in this video is how breathtakingly beautiful VA is from the NoVA wine and horse country to the Shenandoah Valley, the Appalachians and Bay and beachfront. Absolutely gorgeous state!

I use to live in Virginia, Virginia Beach and Fairfax, now I live in Florida, Orlando area. There are things I miss about Virginia, such as visiting many historic site since I'm a History buff. But there are things I like living here in Florida, like being near Disney World and having more than one choice of beaches to go to. I'm not a mountain boy, so I don't miss those much, though they were pretty to see from a distance. I don't miss the traffic in Northern Virginia, and I laugh when I hear locals here complain about the traffic here which is a breeze, though I do get frusterated when I get caught in it.
Loved the video Nick. I grew up in Virginia and lived most of my life in Virginia-minus the first 6 years of my life and 9 years active military service. Grew up in Lynchburg and lived in Norfolk for 31 years. Also I have traveled all around Virginia so much of this video is accurate. I am back in Lynchburg. I'm not happy that Virginia has shifted left in it's politics and we have Northern Virginia, Tidewater, Charlottesville, and other urban areas but much good is happening in my neck of Virginia. Downtown Lynchburg is making a comeback and having Liberty University hasn't hurt although many in Lynchburg may not see it that way. I also like to say that Lynchburg is blessed with no interstate highway.
I have a cousin in Virginia in Lynchburg Virginia that is. I love that town it is a great town and I hope to go visit this next year. They have lived there probably 40 years.❤️ I live in Oregon and the only thing I don't like about that area is the humidity. I don't know how you guys handle it but I guess if you don't know any different. Of course I live out here where it's wet about six months out of the year so I guess it's just the way it goes

In Vienna- Middle class houses are being torn down and replaced with “Mc Mansions”. Demographics changing drastically/ SNOBBY owners of the 1.5 million $$ homes, YEAH! ....NO MORE small-town charm for Vienna, so sad.

Love your stuff brother, but TIDEWATER is not this area, The Tidewater Region of Virginia, also (called the Coastal Plain Region) received its name because the major rivers that flow through the region rise and fall with the tide from the ocean. The Tidewater is the eastern most region of Virginia. It includes the land along the Chesapeake Bay and the Eastern Shore. AKA Hampton roads

You kind of hit the nail right on the head, I’m from what I like to call the “sweet spot” of the state above Richmond where we are 1 hr from Richmond,1 hr from Charlottesville , and 2 hours from Virginia Beach… we are also the stereotypical family who still has a tobacco farm (we also grow soybeans) 4 generations deep and 200 acres of farmland. Both my Grandparents and my Parents not only sold tobacco to Marlboro (our tobacco is one of the farms included in the Virginia blend) but they all also retired from Philip Morris!
Honestly growing up in this state is what first triggered my deep love of history and ended up inspiring me to become a schoolteacher so a lot of the history doesn’t get lost in the next generation.

I'm from Hawaii and all 33 of my family members have now been living between Spotsylvania & Fredericksburg, Virginia for almost a year now and we love it !! If more people, in hawaii, knew about the true nature of Virginia, the population of both Spotsylania & Fredericksburg, Virginia would go up about 100,000 people...lol...it's just so naturally beautiful here without all the artificial stuff that you see in Waikiki and other part of Oahu. We think everything is so cheap here where we live; from the cost of buying a home to the cost of buying a lot to build a house on to the cost of groceries and gas to the cost of going to a really nice water park. Hawaii is in the dumps right now and at least 40% of the island of Oahu's population are jobless which beats out the 1929 Great Depression level of joblessness. We are very happy with Virginia and have no plans on moving back to Hawaii under NO circumstance !! We also found out, quite quickly, that we were not the only native hawaiians here in Virginia. We have met plenty of other Hawaiians that are located here who are NOT in the military! We also have met some Tungans, lots of filipinos, some micronesians, some polynesians and plenty of Samoans, which are all major groups back home in Hawaii(island of Oahu).
Welcome to VA sir. I lived on Oahu for a year for my job, and the cost of living in VA compared to HI is mind blowing.

@@garetkun808 Yeah, there is a BIG difference in 'wanting' to go back to hawaii(because of sentimental emotions) versus 'real world' consequences of actually going back !! We are still here in Virginia and life get's better and better by the month. Recently, I saw a youtuber, who was making a youtube video and in the background I saw the elevated mono-rail train pass. He turns around and says, "wow, this is the first time I've seen the train actual move on the rail.."...lol....My point is, this monstrosity of a rail is well over budgeted by a couple billion dollars by now and it will cost the taxpayers big time. Inflation for EVERYTHING will go up big time and "new ways" of taxing people(think charging people, per mile, to drive their cars on the island, even those islands where people are NOT using the mono-rail). Visitors, vacationers alike will be charged extra taxes to stay in their hotel rooms. But, here in Virginia, life is soooooo good...not perfect mind you, but GREAT to a 360 degree level 😝

Virginia native here. Great video; I really enjoyed it. I do a couple of bones to pick. The area you called Tidewater is actually Southside. Tidewater is an older name for Hampton Roads. Virginia Tech is not Virginia Tech University; it's just Virginia Tech. Its official name is Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Sometimes referred to as VPI. Tobacco was a very important crop throughout Virginia's history. Cotton wasn't. There's a very small area where it can be grown. That would be Southside. It's too cold in the rest of the state. I agree with you that Virginia is more a Mid-Atlantic state rather than a Southern one. I've watched that change in my lifetime. The state is very different than it was when I was a child. I think it's been change for the better although I know a lot of people don't agree. And even though I live in Florida now, Virginia will always be home to me.

I grew up in the midwest and I am so thankful I have lived in Virginia most of my adult life. The small towns are charming. Brick streets, and they plant flowers. Some places are very beautiful.

I grew up in northern VA, but now that I’ve lived in several other states, realized how good it was there. Beautiful lush greens, historical vibes, clean, low crime rate (in most places), super good shopping mall (Tysons corner), plenty of parking, urban but not too high taxes, etc. I took my husband there to visit and he loved it! I swear someday we will move out of this big liberal city sh*thole that we currently live in.

I love Virginia. Its sad you paint it in such a bad light. The people are awesome. We are a multicultural state. There are people from over 130 countries living in my town. That town would be under one of those rebel hats on your map. Our town considers itself progressive and has been for decades. I have four college degrees and have left Virginia to live in other states but kept coming back. The crime rate here is low and we have hiking, fishing, camping, caving, boating and any other outdoor activities you can think of. By the way those "folks who do civil war reinactments" do it for tourism. They are also the people who lost more youth in World War 2. Stop by the World War Two Memorial next time you travel through. People love our Blue Ridge Parkway. Virginia is a beautiful state. I hope living here you will experience the wonders of our state and the friendliness of our residents.

Norfolk, Newport News, and Hampton probably aren't the most desirable part, but Williamsburg is really nice. I would love to move back there or to North Carolina, both of those places put Texas to shame.

I been living in Virginia all my life.44 years to be exact. It is the best place to live you like having four seasons a year. Just like anywhere else we have our cities and countries we have our good and our bad.I'll tell you one thing Virginia is one of the friendliest States you're ever going to visit. We have beautiful mountains awesome beaches. We have a lot of different opportunities for. And we love everybody to come on over.

I’m from NoVa and I love it. There are a lot of entitled jerks that’s true. But I was raised here and it will always feel like home to me. Contrary to popular belief there are nice polite people here too. You just gotta find us. 😉 I like where I live because I feel close to everything: DC, amazing dining and shopping, the mountains are just a couple hours away as well as the beach and lakes, it’s a diverse area with lots different perspectives which I love and there are a lot of interesting people here. ☺️
I grew up in Virginia and even though I still love my homestate I can't stand it anymore. Left 8 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. Never going back there. Yeah it's changing but not for the better. It's lost it's identity over the years. NOVA and the Virginia Beach area are trying to force the whole state to change into something like California. So yeah, Virginia hates NOVA

If that’s the case then if you ever come I would avoid Richmond, it’s like a whole new place and most Virginians outside Richmond are pretty intimidated by it including myself bc I live a calmer suburban area which is actually a lot of Virginia.

I lived in Michigan until I was 28 then moved to Big Stone Gap, Virginia in 1985 to work in the gas fields. I grabbed a pen to write down everything you got wrong but you pretty much nailed it. After the War of Northern aggression the carpetbaggers descended on the place mostly from Philadelphia with their strong armed thugs and pushed the local elite off their land and stole 90% of the mineral rights. The elite still prospered even with 10% of their original holdings but the wealth of this area was hauled off and still is even after 145 years. After 35 years my Michigan accent has softened and it is now home. I love the people because they don't fall for all the mainstream media tomfoolery and don't take themselves so seriously and are able to laugh at their own failings. I have a timeshare in Williamsburg and we love experiencing this college town every other year. Good job.

Henry Schumacher northern NJ feels like Fairfax to me, with its proximity to big city and landscape.
I'm from Portsmouth, VA and I did leave for DC a year after I graduated college (ODU) and yes they are 5 million 7-11's to boot. Me as a transit rider, Hampton Roads Transit is a love/hate relationship.
Anyone coming out of Portsmouth with a College degree instead of a record has done well for themselves.
I'm from the Winchester Area (the tippy top of the triangle) and it may as well be a part of Northern virginia, TBH. Its starting to feel more and more like a DC suburb Every year, while still feeling like the southern parts in terms of culture. Its a unique blend, really.
We moved here to Williamsburg March 2020 from Tennessee and we love it here.... I walk every morning at Colonial Williamsburg and each time I moved by the Beauty of CW... 💞💞💞💞

I grew up in Virginia Beach and now I live in Northern Virginia and omg it's so funny. In the Hampton area we use our area code as an identifier... That and using navy Federal. Like if you don't have navy federal and you live in Virginia Beach... Sorry that's not allowed xD. But anyways, we're so shielded from the rest of the state Nova? Rva? Who is she? Like my boyfriend grew up in Colonial Beach and his mom grew up in Alexandria and like even tho it is all the same state, everything is so different. That being said, I miss Kroger. Kroger come up north because I miss you so much.
