      Free him to stand trial and be accountable for his deeds if he thinks what he did was so worthy of spineless supporters who speak out both sides of their mouths. • @johnlocke4298
      @johnlocke4298 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just my name, not touting anyone. Locke didn't have anything to do with freedom of the press--just human rights and the role of government vs. the individual. Freedom of the Press does not include stolen information--that's theft. If he had wanted to write something of his own, that's freedom of the press. And, state secrets from another country certainly didn't belong to him and what good came of it anyway. Not a thing and now he wants to hide and not take responsibility that comes with such actions.

    • @johnlocke4298
      @johnlocke4298 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Many people from many countries die from friendly fire. It's sad, but true. Sometimes your own people are killed and sometimes its your allies. England attacked America twice and was defeated. We also saved the UK in two world wars. Even then, Churchill was already secretly meeting with Stalin (without the US) to talk about how the UK and Russia would divide the spoils (countries) after WW2. So, there's no ivory tower in England from which to pass judgments on the US. Instead count the blessings for both countries on being allies. Otherwise all of you would be speaking German and Russian. Until you've been in battles or engaging in military actions yourself, don't be the judge, jury, and executioner for mistakes that sadly happened. It doesn't make Snowden or Assange heroes or saviors.

    Julian Assange is kept in isolation. He's locked in his cell for 23 hours and let for 1 hour in a bigger room (he hasn't seen open air for years). In this 1 hour, he has to take a shower, browse the Internet (no Internet in his cell) and call friends and family. He gets to keep no more than 3 books at any time. As if reading is a crime. While in his cell (23hrs/day), he has no-one to interact with, even his food is brought through a slit in the door, without any human interaction.
    These conditions are plain torture to my eyes.

      @dWFnZWVr 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Misleading. During the pandemic, Assange, like all prisoners and those on remand wings, was confined to his cell for most of the day, which was a necessary precaution similar to restrictions in care homes, hospitals, and the general public under lockdown. Only 1 hour of exercise per day was permitted for members of the public, with exceptions for essential tasks, medical emergencies or critical employment that could not be done remotely. Assange was treated no differently, his isolation only pertained to the period during the pandemic where strict regulations were in place.
      In reality (and as of today), Assange is housed in Belmarsh's remand wing, designed for those awaiting trial or extradition. This wing provides additional amenities and a more relaxed routine compared to the main prison wings. Innocent until proven guilty, individuals can freely move about during the day, engage in activities, access full television programming, and choose meals. Cells are locked at night but opened in the morning. It is still prison and those on remand have had their freedom taken away; they live in cells and the experience is certainly far from luxury. However, it is much better than those convicted who are housed in the general population wings, subject to strict prison routine and discipline.

    Assange shouldn't be extradited for one reason - the CIA in its botched assassination attempt of Assange along with other questionable things they at the Ecuadorian embassy showed the USA's hand. So the US has lost any legal credibility for a "fair trial" and "fair treatment" of Assange. The US's best bet would be to send Assange to a neutral third party country say the Netherlands to be tried. Also the Espionage Act is an antiquated (1919), poorly thought out law that doesn't allow the defendant any form of a defense. In essence an unconstitutional law still being used today. Essentially guaranteeing a guilty verdict and a penalty up to death I believe. Chelsea Manning I believe alleged that Assange gave him the hacking information to hack military networks. If this is true then Assange crossed the lines of responsible journalism and legality. Now you could say for that he has already paid his debt after being in prison for 14 years now.

      The mainstream media is horrible and has abandoned Julian Assange. Not only abandoned him, they also helped smear him which is why a lot of US citizens either think Assange is a criminal or they don't even know who he is. If you want to learn more about the case, besides Democracy Now some other good searches: Wikileaks, Stella Assange (Julian's wife), John and Gabriel Shipton (his father and stepbrother), Richard Medhurst (journalist), Nils Melzer (former UN Rapporteur on Torture), Glenn Greenwald (journalist), Consortium News (journalism), Chris Hedges (journalist), Roger Waters (musician) & Assange Defense. Also 2 people who've sadly died, John Pilger (AU journalist & friend of Julian) & Daniel Ellsberg (leaked the Pentagon Papers & worked hard to free Assange).
