Mountain Biking Whinlatter Blue Route | With Red the Trail Dog

- Back up at Whinlatter Forest in The Lake District. We head out for an easy spin around the Quercus Trail/Blue Route and take Red along for the ride. This trail is relatively short, provides some great views, and it's always easy to take a quick shortcut back to the car park which makes it a great route for families or beginner riders, or in our case teaching a dog to follow you down the trail! There's one particular bit of flowy descent so a bit of fun for everyone. Hope you enjoy!

Funny story:
I did this run with my dad a while back and it was snowing with blizzards and about a foot of snow on the side of the tracks.
At one moment my dad was quite far away and i said "come on dad!" At this rather ironic moment i swerved slightly and hit a massive tree stump with my front wheel and went straight over the bars onto the floor and landed on my knees....no knees were damaged....unfortunately i cant say the same for my pride. 😂
Mine always lies in the puddles and dives in the lakes the second he sees them also. Rode the blue and red trails up there today. Not a bad jaunt
Great video and such a well-trained pup! :) I never ride without my border collie, Jade. She always amuses me by laying down and stetching out all her legs in any stream or puddle she finds. Or a patch of cool grass or snow, which she loves to roll around and play in!
A tip for that: buy a waterproof seat cover for your back seats and train Red to stay in the back. I have a doberman and collie, and that's saved my car from mud and fur and tears since i got it. 😊 keep havin fun riding!!
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the tips! Planning another ride with him soon so that'll definitely help 👍
Don't just train them to stay in the back, tether them with a safety harness and seat belt. Dogs need seat belts too!
My German shepherd does this did not even have to train guess he loves me enough to just follow😀
Some dogs definitely pick it up easy easier than others! Red was good after one ride, we have another dog that I don't think would follow at all haha 😂
My dog gets so excited when we go mountain biking that when i stop pedaling she barks at me
@@alfonsomtb2692 that's amazing 😂
Once again another amazing video!!
What an awesome adventure partner!! Trails look like fun too :)
Great video. Whinlatter's a blast. Love it.
Awesome riding man, great dog too!
Thanks!
Great video, ive just started training my collie to follow me on the trails, she loves it.
im bindging on your videos now. top quality mate
WOW thanks 🌸
This is Amazing 🐕🏆🚲🏁😆😊🤩
I went to whinlatter in 2017. Was so good.
Hey mate great video and an awesome dog to ;) And I also have a border collie trail dog. She will also find a stream/muddy puddle to drink or lay in to cool herself down with when on the trails lol :D but is also the best biking buddy I've ever had and keeps her fit and healthy and me ... somewhat fit and healthy lol ;)
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed! Definitely more enjoyable with a trail dog to tag along, but he just loves the mud too much haha! Thanks for watching :)
Really good content lad. Gunna be spending time in Whinlatter over Christmas period this year so all these Whinlatter vids are dead informative for me. Nice one!
Thanks, glad you enjoy them! I should probably get back and redo these older videos at some point to improve the quality, but glad they're still of use!
Too Kool!
Sick video but your dog is more mental than mine, sprinting for that long at a Time
Thanks! Honestly been up and down mountains with him and he'll still fetch you a ball when you get home haha. He might calm down one day...
I was there. My brakes stopped working on the first corner. I accidentally swore and the 10 or so people standing there all heard me.
literally same happened to me
Would have liked to see more of Red.
I didn't have much to choose from in the way of mounts back when I made this but I'm planning on sorting something out for the future. Thanks for the feedback 👍
@@DistrictMountainBiker would love that!!
I had a German shorthair lay in every puddle and jump in any water.
Border collies are so smart that if you got hurt on the trail, they would apply first aid and drive you to the hospital! lol :)
We carry a dog first aid kit which I always thought was for if he had an accident, but maybe it's for him to use on us 🤔😂
Been thinking about taking a visit up to whinlatter since it’s the first place I went mountain biking many years go, stumbled across your channel in the process and I’m glad I did!!
Seems like you get all around the place, From the intro to the video, a gimbal would suit the style so much instead of a helmet cam, keep up the nice work mate :)
Thanks for watching and for the nice comments! I've actually upgraded to the Hero 7 now and have been testing it out with a chin cam setup which I'll be posting a video on soon. Think that combines the best of both the visor and chest mounts, without needing a bulky gimbal on your chest haha
District Mountain Biker True true, are a you a film maker full time mate?
@@ZacHigham Just about, mostly over spring/summer time, still pretty quiet for me over winter so usually end up juggling a couple of jobs then
District Mountain Biker Nice, wish I could do that for a job, any big projects you can link me to?
@@ZacHigham Not really on TH-cam, most just go up on clients websites. But I did have a shoot with Riley Scott down at Revolution that'll be going up on this channel pretty soon!
What handlebar do you use in this video? I really like it. :)
They're the Bontrager Line 35, 780mm wide. Just what comes as standard on the Trek but seem pretty good!
@@DistrictMountainBiker Thank you! :)
Hey, I notice the forestry commission trail map says no dogs allowed on the mob trails. Do you know if this is wrong or is it not usually enforced??
I hadn't heard about this, but there's nobody there to enforce it. I'd definitely not recommend going through the day as the trails get very busy and wouldn't be great with a dog. Stick to early morning or later evening and you barely see anyone 👍
Thanks for the heads up 😀
Why u onlygot 300 subs u deserve thousands😕
Haha nice of you to think that 😁 I guess there's a lot of people making mountain biking videos these days!
What did you film the intro B roll on
?
Panasonic GH4
How old is the dog and how many miles will he do . I’m thinking of training our dog 🐶
He's nearly 7 now and will happily do a 20+ mile day of up and downhill. The uphills are pretty much just a rest for him haha
District Mountain Biker mines five been out with me last year a couple of times but rolls around in horse shit . Maybe time to up his game . Twenty miles that’s some going. Thanks for reply il let you know how I get on
what's your favourite track at whinlatter ? I'm going tomorrow for the 1st time , something more open with lots of jumps and downhill 👍
I'd give the south loop a go first, it's got some pretty open and fast sections but a little more technical up top. The north loop is probably my favourite though, but worth checking out a map and taking a shortcut up to the middle section instead of riding the whole thing, from there onwards is the best 👍
@@DistrictMountainBiker Awesome cheers mate ! Maby see you up there some time 🤘
What breed is your dog?
Border Collie 🐾
District Mountain Biker thank you
