Fast forward 2024 ,with many departments now sharing respect for the country and preserving the great Goldfields Woodlands..thanks for sharing a part of the history. boodja country
You've honestly inspired me so much with your videos. I have no idea how you know so much about the lands but I absolutely love your videos and history lessons! Keep it up! I'll keep watching, maybe I'll see you out in WA one day 🔥🤠
I wasn't aware that you had been through the area that includes Burra Rock and Cave Hill. I am going to do a trip to Coolgardie and south to Burra Rock for the first night and then down to Cave Hill and west to Victoria Rock and Mt Holland for the second night. I will then travel through Narembeen and Bruce Rock to Shackleton where my in-laws had a farm spending my last night at Kockerbin Rock near Kwollyn and then home to Perth. Have just been waiting for the weather to improve.
Hey Salty, thanks for all the rad content. Nothing beats watching you and your pup explore the great country we live in. Pair that with a glass of scotch and you have complete bliss. Lockdown is hard but it's blokes like you that keep our spirits high! Glad I stumbled across your channel. Cheers
Enjoy watching your videos mate , well done . Chris from Bunbury, I’m A recreational pilot and have my own plane in the south west, love landing and camping were I can , we have some great country, I love it . Keep up the great videos 👍
Your knowledge on the area compliments your unique pictures that together create the story. Really enjoying your vids and your relaxed nature, we all need to be a little more like Salty. Thanks mate
Just subscribed after watching this video, loved it and as a 68yr old keep saying to myself why did I not do this 45 yrs ago. Keep up the good work and me and my dog Abe will keep watching. Thanks mate. Regards Ge
Wow just amazing to watch these colorfull landscapes in this WA beautiful and awesome wilderness paradise on the globe. Great camerawork by the way. Much appreciated views and stories to listen to. I went 5 times in my life from Europe to visit WA
I really enjoy these videos you are doing from the less well known parts of WA. The woodlands and Goldfields is a big favourite of mine and I have always thought that even Western Australians seriously under-appreciate these areas.
Thought it was great (especially as I grew up born/bred Kambalda/Norseman until the age of 18) and been to all these places back in the day. I'm an old geography teacher today though, and the small Stirling Ranges, many miles away, don't factor much (if at all) in blocking any SW frontal rainfall to those parts Salty. Curious how many donkeys, wild dogs (even a camel) you might've seen on your travels? Consider taking a yabby net, and a metal detector, with you next foray cobber!
Thanks Darren. I would have imagined they would play some part but I guess theyre not long enough to matter too much. I always have a Yabby trap with me ;) In 5yrs (200k + kms) Ive seen 1 dead camel, several donkeys and zero wild dogs. Although I heard a pack one night.
G'day Salty, another terrific episode, really enjoyed it, that WA countryside is very intriguing the more I see of it, I've mainly just been interested in the coast, but guys like you are starting to open my mind to the inland areas as well. Thanks for passing on your knowledge of the history of that area. Safe travels mate.
As always Salty, a great vid - I really appreciate your drone footage. I was told a few years ago that more timber was taken out of the Woodlands for mine supports and feeding steam engines than has ever been taken out of the South West forests. A great book is Bill Bunbury’s “Timber for Gold: Life on the Goldfields Woodlines”. Keep them coming Salty!
@@SaltyDavenport There used to be a wood company called Lake wood wood company, stationed at Fimenston south of Kalgoorlie, This company cut wood for 200 Plus MILES around Kal before the pipeline was built. Timber was also used to shore up underground diggings. As kids we used to climb all over the locos store there. Discovered an old straight eight car there one day, just left there to rot, would be worth thousands today. Sadly it's all gone now supper pit swallowed it all up and lake is now dry.
Hi, just watched this for the first time. Your filming and shots are so beautiful. I do overanding and would like to learn more on how to film and use a drone. What drone and camera are you using for your amazing filming? Alos find your storytelling excellent.
mate cheers for showing us these tracks n places in WA . we enjoyed it greatly . currently working and living in Saudi Arabia stuck in country becauae of the bloody Rona virus . keep em comming buddy
Hey salty just came across this vid really enjoyed it I've spent a bit of time working in this area and love it. Agree with your comments about dogs and cats. Something you may not know.....cats are born with a mineral deficiency. Pb . It comes in convenient tablets either .22 or 9mm.😉🤣
Just spent a week on a cattle station in central Queensland. The trees out the front gate on the highway must have had at least twenty dead dogs strung up in them. It’s where dogs in the bush belong.
@@Alan.livingston hi Alan yes I know wild dogs are a big problem . I even considered becoming a dogger at one time and if I was a bit younger I would've. I love being out bush and I don't mind being on my own for long periods. I was supporting salty in being able to take our best mates with us when we go bush. Most of the dogs that become problems are from communities and discarded animals. The pure dingo on the other hand is a magnificent animal and the basis of one of the best dogs ever bread
@@brianlynch4285 Absolutely. Working dogs and companion dogs are fantastic, and anything native gets my support, Dingoes included. Personally I'm a cat person and I keep a pet one, but I've also shot more than one in the bush. Like someone once said "Weeds are just plants in the wrong place".
Salty please tell me have you heard that there is a cave there that was a dedicated birthing place. I have heard this but have not been able to confirm.
Hi Salty, Well mate I bloody love it. My mate Crouch AKA On utube "the surfing prospector" is over there as we talk. Prospecting and touring. I shared this with him he will love it also. I have subscribed now after falling onto your channel. Oh also great advice about those bloody cats. See plenty years ago while shooting fox's around Dubbo. Dennis
Good start is download Australian Topographic Maps (I'm using android) Then just download the maps offline. You can go down to big zoom levels but the amount of space required gets very large so make sure you have a but of space on your phone
Ben North cheers, I’m on apple, what I’m chasing is an app that uses topo maps scaled less than 1:250000, even if I have to manage file sizes more. I use paper maps 1:25000 but keen to see if there is an app
There is a similar rock damming system at Wagin, pretty sure the water run off still fills the township large reservoir. Beautiful WA countryside ❤️🇦🇺 Great content, this channel should have way more subs! 👌🏾
The woodlands have recovered well since the timber harvesting stopped. Some trees were planted around the town sites but as the trees were felled there was a massive seed bank left behind with the residue. When large rain events occur the trees take advantage and germinate en masse. Some of the tree species coppice as well, so the well developed roots allow the tree to recover quickly and regrow. I lived the first 30 years of my life between Esperance and Kalgoorlie (or Boulder more correctly!) and I love the bush around the goldfields, especially in springtime.
Very nice but the dog shouldn't be sitting on his lap while he is Driving would be lovely if the airbag went well off maybe he should read the road rules

Awesome content mate what size lift and tyres are you running?
I agree about the dogs! I really struggle sometimes with dogs and camping/4wdriving. Is there much 1080 around in the Western Woodlands?
it's everywhere hey?..
