    thanks so much!! this video made rounding sooo much clearer and when I thought I knew enough, well, I didn't. the video helped me strengthen my knowledge! AND it's so easy to follow along...I don't even have to take notes!! just jot down a few things in my head. this video is definitely not a waste!

    I still have one question, what should you do if you had to round 773.87 down to 3 significant figures? Would you leave the decimal at the end or should you just leave it off?

    • @gisanyravichandran6118
      @gisanyravichandran6118 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you would write 774.00 because your question has 5 sig figs and when u round it, it should also have the same # of sig figs

    • @abbymae8334
      @abbymae8334 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah but you have to round it to 3 sig figs

      @@abbymae8334 i think the last zero is a place holder. idk i am just learning this stuff?
      Edit: nvm i did not see that u comment 11 months ago lol. Did u pass chem?

      You would round 773.87 to 773, because the three digits are significant without the presence of a decimal. The purpose of a decimal for trailing zeros is to convey their significance; however, since we're looking to round this number to 3 significant digits--any trailing zeros resulting from rounding aren't significant so there shouldn't be a decimal.
      You could keep the decimal after 773, but it would be redundant because the three digits themselves already have significance.

    rounding 17.846239 to17.84, but there is 6 so we will give 1 to 4 and then it will be 17.85 so when it rounds it will be 17.9

  • @eslindemann4
    @eslindemann4 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Correct me if I’m wrong but shouldn’t the last question be 0.0560? You can’t turn 0.0562 into 0.056

    • @sparkleskayla3755
      @sparkleskayla3755 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      0.056 and 0.0560 are the same number, just 0.0560 has an extra significant digit.

    • @GetChemistryHelp
      @GetChemistryHelp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The question says to round to two significant digits and 0.0560 would be three. The trailing zero (the one at the end) is significant because of the decimal. Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/pFl49nIGQF8/w-d-xo.html
