Since the tapes of The Hollywood Squares from the 60s(at least the daytime era)are gone,these need to be preserved for posterity. These 1968 shows do nicely as what the show looked like.
Since you left in the commercials from your taped episodes, I think it would have been wicked cool to have been able to preserve the commercials from 1968. No matter though it's awesome to see all these immortal entertainers 😊❤
I was wondering when that happened. My earliest memories of Hollywood Squares are from after we moved to a bigger house in August 1968. I only remember Paul Lynde in the center square, not Buddy Hackett. Charlie Weaver, Wally Cox, and Rose Marie were entrenched as regulars. Jan Murray was often on, and always on the right side from the viewer’s perspective-sometimes on top and sometimes on bottom. It’s also the only place I saw Gypsy Rose Lee, before she passed away in 1970.
Unless there were chronicling of shows that were totally lost, two people associated with the wild and crazy '70's "Match Game" never appeared on the Marshall "Squares": Richard Dawson and Brett Somers. If Mr. Dawson did appear, it would have likely been in the late '60's period when he was on "Hogan's Heroes." But the other regulars: Host Gene Rayburn was a frequent "square" in the 1968-69 period (plus three more between 1972 and 1980); Charles Nelson Reilly was a "square" in ten documented shows between 1970 and 1973 (at least one on the same show as "center square" Paul Lynde); and Fannie Flagg did a week of "Squares" shows in 1974.
The drastic change in clothing style is interesting. So conservative in the 60s with all the men wearing suits and just a riot of color and patterns in the 70s.
So according to Hollywood Squares, John Lennon wrote the lyrics and Paul wrote the music in the Lennon & McCartney songwriting partnership. Nice to know there answers can’t be trusted.
I've been watching a lot of these old episodes lately and I'm surprised at how many answers are total bullshit. Lennon and McCartney were not a lyricist, music pair. The both wrote lyrics and music and many songs were actually written solo, but they had an agreement that credit would always be Lennon/McCartney. There was another episode were they said Mexico was a larger country than the US.
"McCartney writes the music, Lennon writes the lyrics" was a myth told to the public [mostly adults] so the morons would all feel safe in their cozy little categorizations at the time. Previously song writers would write the lyrics and songs for singer to sing "Hey, write me a hit." And those composers of music could read and play, the lyrics writer maybe or maybe not. In Lennon/McCartney's case, neither could read music, but both would write melodies and lyrics separately and together but credit it all to both because they had made a deal that both would get credit. So the answer is actually who writes the music is both and this question was a big fat lie.
You know, I don't mind seeing modern TV closing logos at the end of your uploads, like Fremantle and Sony Pictures and WBTV from 2022. However, I am sure growing tired of hearing the 1950s MGM logo roar from your 2021 MGM Television logo. I personally like the ones from 1995 and 2008.
Well...this is about the 60's....you can find you "modern" stuff anytime and anywhere. I think you're only here because of "Uncle Milty", Milton Borough's legendary member. It's ok. So is everyone else...who's gay. And Don Adams.....maybe

You also made a different MGM/UA Television logo, with the sped-up 1982 UA fanfare, 2012 MGM logo and 1995 MGM roar, found at the end of a 1988 episode of Body By Jake, on one of your program blocks you posted.

Paul Lynde became a regular center square in fall 1968. This is from April 1968.
