    Love my Ridgeline... Oh by the way to the gentleman in the video, Ridgeline was never meant to go up against 1/2 ton pickups.... The appeal is a smaller smart pickup for those wanting a more compact footprint...

    The Ridgeline is meant to compete with mid-sized trucks.

    I just bought a 2013 Ridgeline RTL and it's awesome. Once I saw this video I had to do some of my own off roading and I can completely again with Dave. This truck is wonderful off road.

    Great Review!!! You cant compare it to the Silverado, Ram, and F-150 though. They are all full size trucks, the Ridgeline is a mid-size. Should be compared to the Tacoma, Frontier, Dakota, Sport Trac, and Canyon/Colorado.

    • @josiahstearns9615
      @josiahstearns9615 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. That's why I'm looking at these trucks because I just want to tow a pop-up camper rated between 20-35 hundred pounds and I like that there is 2k pounds of ceiling with some of these mid-sizes for my particular scenario.
      If I needed more, then obviously I'd jump to a full-size but, YES - no need to bash the 5k that this Honda can pull.

    I purchased an 06 to replace a Dodge Dakota. What an upgrade. Drives better, better gas mileage, better traction, quieter and much more solid feeling. It is agile and the rear end doesn't constantly slide all over the road in rainy or icy conditions.
    I drove everything available in that size category. I have owned almost every brand of PU available.
    This truck has been the most dependable vehicle I have ever owned. It is just the right size for my use and doesn't take up the entire garage when parked. It just goes, rides and steers like a fine, solid automobile. No squeaks or rattles. The a/c system is top notch and, did I say that we love the vehicle. The seats are comfortable and offer good support. No one has the in truck storage like this truck and it does come in very handy. The bed is large enough for our needs and the rear two way tail gate is great also.
    It might like a more powerful, better gas mileage motor but, it isn't all that bad. I get about 20 mpg combined. It pulls my small travel trailer very well and it feels very solid and controlled on the road.
    I will probably consider a new one in 2016 but until then, I am keeping it for sure.

    • @LiLDeMoN8I8
      @LiLDeMoN8I8 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Does the 06 have that extra storage in the back like this one were the spare tire is stored?

    • @ronblackstock5597
      @ronblackstock5597 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The feature of the in bed trunk has not changed over the years. All of the Ridgeline trucks have that feature. It does come in very handy. Can't wait to see the new line up for the 2016 Ridgeline Truck. We continue to love our Ridgeline.

    • @LongDrivesAtNight5150
      @LongDrivesAtNight5150 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ron Blackstock You are correct sir. Jeeps have great offroad capabilities but in terms of long term reliability and some other issues, they are not great at all. According to last years JD Power 'probs per 100 vehicles' list, some Chrysler products, Dodge and Jeep do not fair well. Worst yet, now parent company Fiat has even some worse numbers. I know some Jeep owners or past Jeep owners that would never by another one again....a few who would because they are loyal to that Jeep 'brand' and 'image'.

  • @cepaasch
    @cepaasch 9 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I would put my '06 Ridgeline up against any Subaru on icy and snowy roads any day. I also would not compare the Ridgeline with a full size Dodge or F-150, completely different class of PU. Remember the Ridge is classified as a compact truck. If you are looking for a family SUV with a bed for dirt or yard debris then the Honda will fit the bill. If you need a full size truck, maybe not. Otherwise it is an amazing get around town and do all the chores in one shot vehicle!!!

    I've owned my 2007 RL RTX since 2016. Yes, it's definitely a no frills pickup, but it is probably the best one for a non-contractor who just needs a pickup for the days he's picking up garden supplies or helping a friend move some furniture. It is underpowered and the fuel mileage is disappointing (13 mpg city). However, it is far more reliable than the "popular " trucks; after all, it's a Honda.

  • @1992pattrow
    @1992pattrow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Its not supposed to compare with the full size truck lines. This is in line with the Tacoma, Frontier, and other mid sized pick ups. Ive been driving a 2013 Ridgeline RTL for two years and its a great truck!

    Great review. Enjoyed all three including the Everywoman Driver review. Bought mine because it's a mid-size truck. That's what it should be compared to. Not the "big boys." More than a car, less than a full-size truck. It will be interesting to see what Honda comes up with for the next gen.

    My best friend bought one in 07, he did all his oil changes with full synthetic, it now has 160K miles and it still drives like a new one. I liked his so much, I'm going to buy one this weekend. I just test drove a $49K Sticker GMC Sierra SLT and hated it. The Leather Seats are to stiff and the Leather Interior did not have any real Leather, it is all synthetic "Like Leather"
    for $40-50K I want real leather

  • @My03Tundra
    @My03Tundra 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I owned a Ridgeline for a year, and the points Dave mentioned are the same areas I think Honda needs to work on. In fact, the whole interior needs work as I found the interior materials to be subpar. I loved the in-bed storage, but it is inconvenient if you have a load in the bed. I traded mine in as the mileage with the drivetrain was abysmal, and it was not holding up well on the interior.
    When it comes to the next drivetrain, don't except any new options. Unless, they are outsourced. It is unlikely the Ridgeline will see the Honda Diesel engine available outside of the US, but it would be a welcome addition. It will likely have the 3.7L V6 and six speed transmission like the MDX has available as the only option. Again.
    Honda doesn't seem to understand that American truck buyers like and want options. They want multiple engine, cab, bed, and differential options available to them. I saw an artists rendition of what a current unibody regular cab Ridgeline could look like, and it looked pretty damn cool. If the next Ridgeline can offer more options, then it may sell better. May.

    1. Own a Honda Ridgeline 2011 happy so far.2. It is not a work truck. But it helps you get things done.3. MPG is great but could be improved.4.Traction is awesome but you need good tires.5. Comfort is like a riding in a Caddy.6. Towing is great as well. I tow a 17 fiberglass boat.. No problem! I can even pass other cars.7. Interior is great easy access to items. Lots of storage.8.Rear tail gate opens up two ways.9. Has cargo space for coolers and other items.10. Weight limit for bed is not that great at 1,546 lbs.Looks better than the new Honda ridgeline 2017

    • @KrulciferEdenfelt

    great review as always. FWIW, i don't think Honda has any intention on competing with the big 3. They will simply make this a better Ridgeline. Better gas mileage, better interior, etc., but still with what ever 6 they choose to put in it. I can't imagine them pulling out an 8 just for this vehicle.

    I don't why but I own both a 2016 Tacoma and 2007 Ridgeline and I actually feel like the Ridgeline is faster despite having less horsepower and torque that the Tacoma. In the end, even today the old Ridgeline competes well with midsized trucks today. Especially since I got my 2007 Ridgeline for 5000 2 years ago which at the time was a average price for the car

  • @neitzp
    @neitzp 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with almost everything Dave said about the Ridgeline. I own a 2009 RTL model and it really does need either more engine options or a more powerful motor, a redesigned instrument cluster and center stack, more towing capacity, and a more comfortable back seat. The only thing I disagree with is Dave's statement about the back seat legroom; every time I put adults in the back they complain about the lack of legroom and I'm only 6 feet tall. I was disappointed to hear Dave comparing the Ridgeline with full-size trucks given the vehicle was designed to compete with the mid-size, crew cab, short box, truck market.
    From what I read about the second generation Ridgeline that’s under development, they are leaving the back seat alone and are not going to improve the towing capacity by much, if at all. I hope these rumors are wrong, I really do.

    Real world: Buddy of mine took his (brand new at the time) ridgeline out with us and tried to crawl it, busted or bent nearly every suspension component in the 4 day trip. It was out of alignment in the first few hours. Day 3 it broke a front axel shaft so easily we actually thought it was made out of fiberglass, had to be towed 160 miles home.

    I don't see them aiming the new Ridgeline at the full size market. That said, they will need to offer towing and interior quality that more closely competes with the new Colorado/Canyon twins from GM. For that matter, Toyota and Nissan need to do a major refresh to keep up with those two (and those world Ranger (F100?) prototypes that have been spotted running around Detroit).

    Any buyer in this segment would be looking at a Colorado and not a Silverado, or a Ford Ranger ( if they had a new model ), or a GMC Canyon. As far as 2015 goes, the Colorado is the way to go, if you don't mind spending $ 50,000.

      I think Honda should focus on making the Ridgeline better off-road than the Colorado, Frontier, Tacoma, and Canyon. They should shorten the bed another foot, and install off-road bumpers front and back as standard. They should put in a 6-speed manual with a granny-gear, and give it a solid front-axle.

      +David Locklear Shorten the bed? it's only 5 foot. just need improved departure angles-and mostly better ground clearance

    tThe 2015 GM Colorado and Canyon are going to kill it. The Ridgeline is just not their. They need to make it a traditional Pickup style. (that cross between a suv/truck is not working) It needs better MPG, more towing capability, and a little more power and a 6 speed. Might be good to offer more configurations and a base 4Cyl. Also need to lower the starting price.

      Lol GM is not going to kill shit. Their product quality suck ! Ridge line is perfect truck for me . I don't need to tow spaceship and I don't need to overcompensate for my dick size. I'm not saying that all those big trucks are useless no but 90% people are not even using half of those trucks potential so there for they don't need truck like that. And if I had to go big than there is only one I would consider- Toyota Tundra or step down Tacoma . I have Ridgeline now and I wouldn't trade it for anything else. After owning Chevrolet for 8years I'm done with GM or American cars.

      If it works for you, you dont use it as a truck. And for a V6 it gets as good as millage as a 6.2 V8 or fords 3.5 V6 EB.

    This was an idiotic review. It is not trying to compete with the big boys.
    Most people I know with these things get past 200000 miles without even rusting or having any repair and I mean ANY REPAIR!
    I not sure how much truck people need and I don’t love the ridgeline but the reliability of just the VVt system is so simple and rugged compare to
    Anyone!
    I am not a lover of this vehicle but the build quality is epic, maybe a tundra comes close

    It's not meant to compete with any of those trucks mentioned. It's a comfortable, light duty, AWD, passenger vehicle with moderate hauling and towing capability.

    It's not competing with heavy duty trucks, its only in light truck LT class. Would it be a good idea to have a v8 engine in the same size vehicle?
    Stock subwoofer needs an upgrade
    Headlights should be HID
    Could have an option for a heated steering wheel
