There’s actually a name for this, I don’t recall it correctly. But it describes taking a tough character and let the new bad guy beat him up to establish the villains power. Much like Thanos did with the Hulk.

Love how Nebula developed in this movie. From despised lacky in her first appearance to genuinely kick ass matriarch in the last.
I love how they finally showed a bit of Drax's strength and why he is the strongest guardian of the team. He is the only one who could go toe to toe for a little bit against someone like Adam Warlock. And before people start about comics, of course Adam should've finished him sooner, but talking purely about the MCU Drax finally got some time to shine to show how powerfull he can be.
Yeah but it's still pretty weak in comparison to the comics... Bro could fight hulk and win... Idk, I like the MCU's version, but I miss the competency they gave the character in the comics. I guess the same could be said for a lot of characters in the MCU, Starlord was charismatic and low key a tactical genius in the comics, Hulk was actually incredibly powerful, Thor wasn't the butt end of every joke... I think they just leaned a bit too hard towards the comedy side of things but at the expense of making their characters seem incompetent.

@@ashm4938 Yeah nah absolutely... Can't have an interesting character if there is no way they can really be hurt... Kind of the reason why Superman started becoming really boring in some of the DC comics due to power scaling. That's why My Adventures With Superman (MAWS) is so good right now, as he is easily the weakest Superman we've seen so far... The difference being, even though he is weak comparatively to other superman versions, he is still a very competent and tightly written character. Yes, he is clumsy, yes he is a goofball at times, but he is taken seriously by the story, and the characters he interacts with. This is so important, because if nobody took him seriously, why should you?
Unfortunately, Marvel doesn't seem to have that for a lot of it's characters. Yes Drax, Thor, Star-Lord and Hulk are a LOT weaker than their comic counterparts, but they are also not written that well either. They are just at the butt end of way too many jokes, making them seem incompetent at best and cowardly at worst.
Star-Lord in the comics for example is a master tactician, and the rightful leader of the Guardians due to his cunning and wit, even though it's hidden behind a charismatic and often arrogant façade. In the MCU however, he is almost exclusively used as comedic relief, degrading the audience's view of his character in order to get a cheap laugh. They want us to basically go "haha look at the funny man, he's so stupid", but want us to care as soon as things start getting serious. It don't work like that chief.
He did give them a fairly good butt kicking catching them all offguard, but yeah, swords sharp and pointy.

For the people going "Ugh Adam is too weak" We all have to remember he's in short, a 5 year old and I mean literally. For him. he doesn't know combat that well and doesn't understand much becasuee he's learning and hasn't matured up to his full potential. However he can already rip apart any villain we had so far tbh but My point is, the more we see him in future movies because for him, I'm assuming us seeing Adam Warlock has just begun because it would be terrible to only see him two or one time so back to my point the more we see him the more he's going to grow up into an adult and mature meaning he's going to get stronger, faster, and not hold back and everything we want and everything in the comics that he did, I'm willing to bet right now, he will eventually be able to do in future films. I just wonder how long it takes Adam to age.
The problem too is that people compare all of these characters to their comic counterpart, which over the years have just become insanely overpowered and it wouldnt translate well to screen imo

James Gunn elaborated Adam is still “a baby” in this movie. He’s exactly like Vision except WAY way more unaware of his FULL potential and power- I have faith moving forward they’ll truly demonstrate him as the power house he is.
You could've had multiple movies centered around Adam but no Marvel wanted to use someone ridiculously powerful just as comedy relief basically

Adam Warlock is supposed to be the MCU equivalent of Superman. So i dont think that ordinary blasts and swords will do much to him (though he is not at full strength here because he hasn't fully developed yet. )I haven't watched this movie so yeah even if the others did exactly what you said I don't think it would have done much damage. And stop comparing everything to Snyder.
And also I think little to no jokes were used in this specific scene and for your information there is a reason MCU movies used to be much better than most DC movies before. For example take Captain America:Winter Soldier and Civil War. Both are dark movies where one can lose their lives at any moment. I also think that the point where you stated that "real fight people die fast" What about the fact that in BvS where Superman fought Batman he could have easily immobilized Batman but he didn't .(I know there's a reason for that but there were still many ways to immobilize him in a non-lethal way).
