😊wow! Chris you said some time back you were going to be coming out with this splitter, at the time I thought no way this was going to be as good as your competitor. this thing is the best in the industry. 👏👏👏
Hey Bob I can honestly say I think Chris found the ideal spokesperson for Wolferidge. You do an incredible job of demonstrating and explaining all the features of this machine. I’m a huge fan of the vertical machines and I think Wolferidge has outdone Eastonmades Axis with the log lift and moveable conveyor. Cheers Woody !!!
Glad I waited too see what Chris was going too come up with in a vertical splitter. So many great features and well thought out design . Now I gotta figure out how too get one up here in Ontario 🇨🇦 Beautiful Quality Machine 👍👍👍👍
Bob, good demo! CHRIS, since you own the business, and your the top Guy, may I suggest painting all the wedges on the VS17 Red for a better visual on the down stroke. Really like the color scheme with the gun metal gray. And, upgrade the foot pedal to have some open metal grating or some sort of foot hold so your boot wouldn't slide or slip off when in the snow. Thanks, (I know you can run that by the R and D department.) I like the new VS17, I think you're gonna have great success with it.!
@@BacktoBob1 Thanks for the reply, Chris has always made quality equipment and never slacked on 'building it better' with innovative upgrades and personalle
I watched this morning before signing in..... Bob, Are you guys still planning on showing the 17VS-C (with the bigger pump and motor ) soon? You said a while back maybe by the end of January. Is that still the case? You guys are top dog in the vertical splitter game right now from the manufacturers currently making them that I've seen. This machine blows the Eastonmade away hands down. Not even close. Also blows away the Power split and Supersplit machines as well. There are a couple of others also not even close or as well known ( I cannot even remember their company names ). I'm sure the 17VS-C won't disappoint either since It's never been shown with the bigger pump and motor to my knowledge due to waiting for parts and such ( according to Chris a while back ). Thanks for the video.
Looks like a winner to me looking forward to see how the conveyor works on that model definitely a win from this demo thanks Bob. Also wonderful to see start/stop and RPM were you are standing huge win
Hey Bob I see you have a AMP Research folding step on your truck too. That was one of the 1st things I put on my Tacoma 5 years ago. It is worth it's weight in gold! Nice splitting session! Peace! -Everett
We worked on that before, but video didn't turn out very well. It's an easy add on that only takes about 2 hours or so. The bracket gets sandwiched between the hydraulic tank and the frame and just a couple hoses to add on. Run power wire to battery box. Easy Peasy
I ordered the VS17-C (With Conveyor) a few weeks ago. I'm super excited, just sold my Eastonmade 22/28. I will put my 1st run on it on my youtube channel, plus do a walk around.
Bob, You're making me nervous with your hand on top of the round. Careful buddy! This machine is really the perfect splitter for bags and bundles. Well done.
I really like that unit but for now I think I am still on board with the 35 SHO box wedge . I am waiting for the box wedge video of all box wedge sizes . I totally understand the table being slick . But I think Dimond plate would be great under the splitting wedge .
Looks to be a very nice splitter the only thing I see it might need is maybe some kinda roughness under where the wedge splits so then the wood wouldn't kick out when it's slick...
Great video!! Very nice built splitter looks built better than your competitors!! It's classy looking!!! But I will say it seems the area to your left on the table needs to be bigger even with the conveyor on...
Bob, this was very well done. If you were gonna split 50+ cords, small splits like this, would this be your go to machine, or a box wedge splitter, or something else?? TIA😊
Thank you! That's a tough decision for me... I really like both machines. You get more of an upper body work out with the VS, which I don't mind, but you have almost no kindling or chaff and have the utmost control of split size. The box wedge machine would be less physical handling, depending on your logs, but the nature of the box wedge produces more kindling or chaff. If you were getting big rounds all the time, like 24" diameter or so I would go with the VS. Thanks again for watching!
Nice work Bob. Can you guys do a towing video on the 17 VS? Picking one up shortly and need to tow or trailer an hour home and trying to decide between towing or trailering. Not seeing any overall dimensions on the website for width (trailering) or tongue height (tow). Thanks again!
Very aestheticly pleasing machine, kick out resistance needs to be improved, no excuses needed then! I would buy one!, Oh , also model number graphics less professional than the machine deserves.
I believe we just got a 4.5 back from heat treating, my plan is to grab an SHO box wedge machine, run the 4.5 and then also run it in traditional wedge splitting action as well.
Here I’m watching this again just noticed you pulled the safety pin for the hitch but didn’t release it from the ball ? Meant to ask also is that a 2”or 2 5/16” coupler ? And what’s on the 35sho ?
Good question. It is a 2 inch ball, and that pin I pulled is actually the latch as well. It slides through and latches under the ball. Its a nice coupler and has no mechanism to corrode, get bent, or break.
Absolutely a solid unit and beautifully made like everything they produce!👍 However...I felt Chris ran just short on time getting the 17vs ready for debut at PB show. I was hoping that this winter the 10% that was rushed would be readdressed and maybe done a little better before actual production of these units began. The stickers for controls just dont cut it with me. I would rather see some wording or symbols etched into the panel that will withstand time. I read your comments on already looking into a better foot control. I see it bending backward with each push, which can't be good in the long run but better ergonomics and grip would be a plus also. I am not sure how peddle locks up? Can it possibly bounce out of lock position in transport with a pot hole? One other thing is changing the motor oil. It appears the whole mounting plate will be covered during that process? Again...Awesome machine but at the price point I would like to see a few things improved that were rushed at the end for these to meet the standards we have grown to expect from Wolfridge being bulletproof units! Nice job on the video and have a great weekend, Bob!👍
Thanks for your feedback. This is Chris commenting.... There is an oil drain hose like we use on our other high output splitters. The pedal has over an inch of pin engagement with spring lock. The pedal can not move that far due to the channel it rides in. This will not bounce out of stowed position. Also, this pedal is made from hi tensile steel and can flex with no concern. I do not feel that adding traction to the pedal is necessary. We want to make sure it is not able to be engaged unless the operator is in position to run the machine. Better decals are being designed for controls, but etching is not a viable option due to rust concerns. Also, laser etching will not show thru powder coating, if done before hand. We improved just about every aspect of this machine from Paul Bunyan to now. We added fenders, electronic throttle controls, added clearance for log lift and other safety features. The first VSC sold to a gentleman in Maryland, and he likes it so much that he ordered another one, so I think we are doing just fine with them!
@WolfeRidgeSplitters Thanks for the reply...I had yet to see the hose in any videos! The peddle does not look awkward in any way to me. I did just notice it bending. Way to nice of a machine for those generic control labels!👍Have a great weekend!
The top deck where the wedge comes down should be slotted so that the snow falls down when splitting wood the regular deck has to much deribe for the wood would slip out underneath
I see that wolfridge offers a stroke limit plate for some of the horizontal splitters. Would that work with my 28 pro. Everything I split is 17” and just looking to save a bit of time. Thanks
There is a 6 inch stroke limiter, which would bring your stroke length to 18 inch but there’s very little margin for error then with round cut lengths. I can do a video with these limiters soon to show them all.
It is not required, but graphite or silicone based dry lubricants will not hurt. Just don't use grease as that can trap dirt and cause more wear. Thanks!
Oh and I’m gonna get you some new gloves. Yours have holes in the fingers and the only thing that is good for is swiping on your phone and picking your nose!😂

Check out videos from Lilly's Farm and Firewood on TH-cam / Facebook / TikTok. He uses a VS for bundle wood and bulk firewood too.
Good job Bob!
Who cut those rounds crooked? Ha Ha!
How thick is the steel on the deck! No wonder the splitter is heavy.
I enjoyed the video.
1/2" thick table top. Thanks!
I might have cut some of those rounds 🙈

Great overview of the splitter! I should be able setup the splitter and use it without any questions. Man I like the color of that splitter.
Thank you! You’re going to love it!
Bob, would it be possible to make a hole between the two holes for the extended legs on both sides?
Hi George! Are you asking about the drop legs on the table side, or the legs on the engine / drawbar side?
On the engine side, because I’m some situations you may need them out a little but not all the way.
As always bob excellent demo had to rub my eyes I have the same truck now I no what it looks like hooked up to mine be awesome if it was

Looks to be a very nice splitter the only thing I see it might need is maybe some kinda roughness under where the wedge splits so then the wood wouldn't kick out when it's slick...
With the 35 degree weather and packy snow everything was slick. We're working on something :)

Great video!! Very nice built splitter looks built better than your competitors!! It's classy looking!!! But I will say it seems the area to your left on the table needs to be bigger even with the conveyor on...
That thing is sweet. I would need to paint it brown with black lettering to blend in with my wood pile so no 1 notices it from the street.

@@BacktoBob1 yup.
Great job Bob! With the added snow factor, are there any plans to add some steel or slots to the table under the wedge to prevent kick out?
The temperatures and the packy snow really did make things slippery. We are working on some ideas to help when splitting in these conditions.

2 stage pump on them, so it will slow down and build pressure for gnarly wood. Thanks!
Another awesome review, Bob.
Does the wedge stay in place over a long period of time when not in used??
Hmmm, good question! Probably drifts down very slowly

How much extra does it cost to get the 24” stroke?
Currently, that adds $600 to the price of the machine.

17 tons, it handles some knots, but definitely better suited for straighter grained wood. Thanks!
