Spray Booth Service

  • To continue achieving top quality results and keep your spray booth running well it is important to maintain a service schedule. There are some great products on the market to use as a protective coating on the walls that not only help keep it clean but also reduce dust contamination, the product I use and recommend is ProCabin, it is an easily applied water based product and will stay sticky to the touch and never fully dry, the benefit of this is that any dust or overspray will stick straight to it and not recirculate into your fresh paint work, when the overspray has built up too much it is easily removed with a high pressure water cleaner and ready top be re coated.
    The product is quite thick straight out of the container so I recommend using a little water to thin it down a bit prior to application with a 2.8-3.0mm spray gun, if you don't have a 2.8mm spray gun then you can use a 1.8-2.0mm gun but it will take a little longer to apply and you may find a little more water is required to allow the flow through a smaller hole.
    The filters also must be changed when they start to fill up with paint so watch this video and I will take you through the entire process of servicing my spray booth.
    All spray booths are different so this method may not best suit your situation.

    I've been binge watching your videos for the past few days and I can't thank you enough for the thoughtful education you're providing. I'm particularly fond of your discussions of the decision making processes you use for materials and techniques on your own vehicles. I was inspired to order a Devilbiss FLG5 this morning, from the UK to my home in the US. Oh... and that DNA Mutant Crystalz looks like some really fun stuff! I'd like to try some of it on a Nissan Skyline R32 I bought and will be importing early next year. Best of luck in Thailand, its a great country.

    G'day gunman. Just found your channel and have enjoyed watching some of your videos. Over the last 6 months or more I've rebuilt a little 11ft Arafura Cadet catermaran for the kids. I tried spraying the top coat a couple of weeks ago in the back yard. Straight away the bugs turned up and I spent the next 20 minutes picking bugs out with some fine wire. I think I had the pressure a bit low and maybe hadn't thinned out the paint enough. I ended up with a bit of an orange peel finish. I was prepared to put up with these imperfections, however over night the heavy due destroyed the gloss completely. I was sort of 1/2 pissed off, but 1/2 happy that I had to have another go at doing a better job. I'm fixing up another catermaran- same design, and I'm also building a 22ft F22 Trimaran. So I have, and will have a fair bit of spray painting to do. I'm thinking about setting up a semi proper spray booth in my shed. Thinking about maybe lining the inside walls of the shed with flat sheets of colorbond steel maybe, pop riveted to the frame of the shed. Could get a bit expensive though. The part of the shed converted into a spray booth would be 3m x 9m to fit the 22ft (7m) trimaran. I soppose if I painted the floor with the booth liner stuff I wouldn't need to have a wet floor? Any thoughts?

      Unfortunately the booth liner is water based, it wouldn't last long at all in the garage. Just use some plastic drop sheets on the walls and put water on the floor, that will lower the dust. Check latest videos, I've been doing some work from home lately, maybe a few tips there.

    i want to install these ceiling filtres like you too but in the description of them always is written about only 900 to 1800m3/h/per quadratmetre air volume possible...so for my 15000m3/h air from my fans i would need almost 10m2 space for installing the filtres if i take car of this information in the description...thats why i ask

    It's a negative pressure booth? How many cubic meters per hour? The power of the fan?

  • @hirsch4650
    @hirsch4650 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hey man what airflow do you have for fresh air and exhaust? i mean in qubikmetres per h. And how much m2 do u have for fresh air filters? Does your booth work good?

  • @STKS1991
    @STKS1991 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the runoff from the walls not toxic? Isocyanate is water soluble so putting it down a drain or letting it dry outside of a booth should be a big no no legally and from the point of view of your health?

    Im Sad that you're leaving the body shop scene gunman from a selfish point really as il miss all your videos on our trade and im sure like me everyone will miss your vids too ! Im not really interested in custom paint to be honest i think its a lot of work and looks a bit naff to me but i wish you all the best in your new venture 👍👍
    One quick question mate does your inlet air in booth just pull through from extraction fan or does it blow through from its own inlet fan ? 👍👍

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It just sucks through from the exhaust fan, to be honest man I am starting to feel the same way about leaving the trade, I have a feeling that I'll do a year here then reassess, Most likely end up moving back to Melbourne.

      Carl Heath I get a real kick out of smashing out as many mad paint jobs as I can in a day it's like a game to me and obviously the boss loves it when you're running rings around the other painters, plus I hate being wrong which is part of the reason I have very few reworks and that all goes to help when ya ask for a pay rise, well I have had 2 fuck ups in the last 6 months, I made over $110k a year ago, but just got to the point where enough was enough and really needed a break, especially with the stresses of having my own shop, I think as an employee you have more freedom and less responsibilities so that's what I'll be doing, plus I also got over doing old cars and all the panel, R&R shit too.
      Where are you from again?

    JUST A HEADS UP!!!!I work at sheen panels and they have this sticky cloth stuff wrapped all over the walls and it takes all the shit in the air like a sponge and lasts a good 6 months of 3 oven cycles of a smash shop. A 3M rep comes in and helps us do it.

    have you ever used a floor coating instead of wetting the floor down? i wet the floor before every job i do so if the floor and would like to eliminate that short but still tedious task.

      The Gunman like 90 makes a grippy mat and partical control that works better than wetting a floor. It also keeps the floor clean of any overspray

    hey gunman. i just finnished building my end draft up here in sydney. for the life of me i cant find pro cabin. i tried calling my suppliers and they dont stock it. could u put me in touch with someone who has it. Cheers Nathan Hurst.

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know Park Automotive here in Perth have it, you may be able to call them and ask who they get it off and see if they have a Sydney distributor. I know what you mean tho, there's nothing online about it too but far superior to other booth coatings because it stays wet so it's a dust control & protective coating.

      +The Gunman Oh right that's always one of those things that happens in partnerships, I hope things work out good for you as I have enjoyed your work, But its hard to get businesses up and running, can you tell me what is the minimum compressor you can get away with for a Gti Pro lite or the GPI as I just bought both and expect them here soon. So were you in Qld at some stage or only west coast, Cheers Mate

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not the big compressor guy but if you just go for the minimum required then you'll be let down and get average results, bigger the better. I am from Melbourne and may end up back there before too long.

      +The Gunman Cool thanks for that, if ever your running through Brizzy say gidday, if you hire a booth are you better off to look for one with heating ?

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Garry Herbert I guess if it's cold then yeah you'd want heat and also humid cos you can run a dehumidify cycle through a heated booth, sure thing man I would love to get to go around more places and paint so may end up in Brizzy
