Oh bless you for making this video. I have a soft spot for the 2005 movie but I love both adaptations!

This is great! Trying to compare a book with a series or film is already tough, but then trying to compare a series with a film often leads people to say series are better because they feel closer to the book. As you note, it's not fair to to films which have less time to do this work. There have to be more cuts and conflations or reimaginations to keep enough info for the plot but also to make sure the film isn't hours long. Thanks for calling that to people's attentions.

Couldn't agree more! It's too difficult comparing a movie that had to cut and mold the book to fit the 2hr slot, or a longer tv series that allows a deeper dive into the story. People get so defensive as they see their favourite as a reflection of themselves, when their favourite is usually just the first one they saw (2005 for me)!

That's an interesting point about people seeing their favorite as a reflection of themselves, that could be why some people take their (or others) opinions on the adaptations very personally!

Comparison can be a great way to gain appreciation of differences and similarities and gather additional context, but "comparison" with the intent to rank better and worse is unproductive at best.
