Here for…pancakes, doggo’s ,ice cream, poetry.. Scotland , super personable and relatable content..looking forward to Unbound vlog..good luck and don’t forget the clutch.
So good to see you in Galloway again and thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and analysis. btw - so many had forgotten about the clutch. You can be proud of yourself to have come though mentally and not give up. Good look across the pond. Would love to see you again in Galloway and share some more gossip ;-)
Scotland is next level on views.. I've not done any gravel out there but stayed at castle douglas with my family and managed to get out on the road.. the valleys and stuff are unreal.
Other notes: 1. The beagle bagel thing confused me 2. Why so confused? Fleetwood mac - Sara is one of the best tunes ever. 3. Unbound should be incredible, looking forward to that vid!
Ahahah we just call her Bridget the bagel. I assume someone accidentally said bagel not beagle once and it stuck! This part of Galloway is just beautiful! Have done a few events in Scotland and all of them seem to be stunning…makes me tempted to leave London 🤣
Considering the clutch and cramps you did amazing, I really enjoy your vids and love your accent. You have tons of potential and setbacks are only learning curves. A big hello from Canada.
Sounds like you did brilliantly, all things considered, with some good learning points to take fwd to your next race. Great vid, like the honesty of it, shows it's not all sunshine & roses.👍
Thanks for sharing that. It was so nice. I was one of the team on feed station 3. Plus my dog Skye the pet therapy dog who made a lot of new friends. She promised not to divulge any secrets shared on the course too. There were a lot of tired people and broken bikes at feed station three. We hope that we looked after you all as best we could. Please come back to Galloway.
Well done Maddy, it was a really hard race the first 50k was up really steep hills or down really fast descents with sharp big gravel, to try and get back on the front you would have had to risk going off what little lines there was on really fast descents, better to live for your next event rather than seriously hurting yourself, you did well to finish and were not that far off your age group category. Well done. It was a very hard race. 😀
Thanks, I must admit I felt like smashing my poor bike a few times, especially the last climb before the road section back to Gatehouse, also my thumbs were badly bruised from holding on going down the downhills, that’s racing for you. Will you do it next year? It is at the same place 😳
Gutting re the clutch, such a simple thing to remember normally but when you're in race environment and have so many other things to concentrate on, great race report 👍
Well done Maddy 👏🏻 Another great vlog. I think this is ‘the spirit of gravel’ tbh- overcoming adversity for our entertainment. Adversity = action = amusing stories = views= eyes on bikes = happy Ribble. Not saying results don’t matter- I think you have to want to win but I don’t think “yeah, I solo’d away to victory, go me!” would be as interesting for TH-cam 😀 Unbound sounds amazing! Can’t wait for that story. Onwards 💪🏻
I feel your pain. I had a very long very hot day in Tuscany and ran out of water with an hour to go. Never felt so ill off the bike or lost so much weight on a ride. A lesson learnt…
Gutted for you with the clutch error. We’ve all been there and done something daft at times though. I’m a complete scatter brain when I’m premenstrual. Enjoy Unbound. Stay safe out there🤙🏻
Never worried about fannying with a clutch since I got a SRAM drivetrain bike - and the SRAM mech also has the 'bolt' to hold the mech open when taking the wheel in/out. Just add it to your pre-race checklist.
Don’t be so disappointed with your performance. You know what you did wrong and you know how to fix it; as you say it could have been worse, i.e. a puncture or complete mechanical failure. On the positive side, you kept going and in doing so you solved the chain issue. You had prepared well for this race, so a similar prep the next time and believe in yourself, stick to your plan of riding your race. You know what you can do so don’t be swayed by the other riders. My apologies for saying something obvious, do you perform a quick safety check just before the start? I guess the top riders have mechanical team with them to do these checks, maybe the bike sponsor could help the “Collective”? Keep riding and keep the faith Maddy. It will get better 🚴♀️🏅
Thank you! Super kind words :) Slight downside to being a privateer over part of a team, is that there isn’t a mechanic at races. I think collective is on the blurry line between those. But I definitely think having mechanic support around race day is invaluable. Either I need to get better with working on my own bikes or work towards having this budgeted into my races :) But I’m definitely learning hugely this year about what support you need at which kind of race.
Great film - loved you being here and seeing this bit of SCOTLAND! - Warren- the person who designed the course! Get back here ASAP!!!
The course was epic!! Cheers for such a great route :) I wish I was based near that gravel!
@@maddynutt We moved here for the cycling!

Ahahaha thank you! Still trying to convince my dad to relocate to gatehouse of fleet, so I can visit for epic rides! Always up for local goss ahah

Thanks so much! Hopefully this was learnt now the hard way so I avoid it in the future :)

Thank you! Definitely not all sunshine and roses, but sometimes it can be and then you appreciate it more !
just subscribed Maddy better luck next race.
Cheers! :)

Thanks so much for your help!! Feed station 3 was my saving grace. Wouldn’t have got to the finish without that stop!

Ahaha I love this! Although equally if I could solo away to victory that would be pretty cool… 🤣 (albeit less entertaining!)
Yeah fair point- especially at Unbound 🤣 See ya later Sofia 👋🏻
(Maybe limit them to one or two a season 😉 )
@@ASGundogs Ahahhaha love that

No one wants to be dehydrated 🤣
Funny how hindsight never arrives before you need it.....One of life's mystery's... Can we have a bike check please Maddy?
I’m making a long list of mistakes I’ll never make again! I’ll get one into my Unbound prep video. I’ve got a brand new bike for unbound 😍
Gutted for you with the clutch error. We’ve all been there and done something daft at times though. I’m a complete scatter brain when I’m premenstrual. Enjoy Unbound. Stay safe out there🤙🏻

I didn’t know SRAM mechs have that! Super cool. Definitely will be added to pre-race check

More Tabby, Dukey, Akira and Bridget... that profile! 😅
Where did "recce" come from? Sounds pretentious, as if a person can't be bothered to say "recon" like everybody else.
