Is corruption no longer a crime? The Met seem to be doing about the corrupt PPE contracts even though the High Court ruled that the VIP lane was unlawful! And that on top of doing nothing about Partygate until forced to.

My only disagreement on language is describing "our democracy." Britain is, in reality, an elective dictatorship. Democracy means government by the people and such a system can either be direct or representative. Our system is unrepresentative, and thus undemocratic. We simply have deliberate mismanagement (masquerading as government) by the elite for the benefit of the few.

@@brentmeistergeneral6074 Don't get me started on that. Of course a simple binary vote is democratic, PROVIDED spending rules and electoral rules are followed. Also a referendum is legally advisory, unless the statute is altered; otherwise parliament is sovereign. It took a minority-elected government to deliver something that would otherwise seem democratic - had it not been so open-ended and distorted.

I'm Irish. The tragic aspect to all this is that in Ireland (up to around 15 years ago) we would point to Britain as an example of politicians having to resign (or being forced out) when our own Irish politicians were caught in lies, or misconduct, or corruption and they tried to bluff their way out of the consequences. Now the opposite is true. We point to Britain and say that if any of 'this' had happened here, the politician(s) wouldn't be able to survive for very long.

Well one he isn't a "legend", a hack like most radio presenters whether left/right can only delve so far deep into topics with a time window too short to have their opinions legitimately challenged.
The contracts they are signed up to dont allow them to debate in public as their image could be damaged as a result & broadcasters affiliation.
That said this isnt unique to james & its sophistry when the things he stands for/against doesn't have any solutions but clever arguments that can be applied to the left.
Also his definition of "right wing" is way off & to think "rightwingers" support boris Johnson when we've had waves of migration over last decade is optimistic, just not gonna let labour do it happily while conservatives say one thing & do another.

The Daily Main, along with Paul Dacre, ought to be deported to Rwanda. They wouldn't last five minutes there. Nadine Dorries should have been permanently banned from politics the moment she went into I'm A (Non) Celebrity. If anyone in a 'normal' job did the things BJ has done, they would be put on Garden Leave while it was investigated and not allowed to influence either the investigation or the people doing the job they once did. That's what we need here. Boris suspended pending the inquiry. Even if that means Raab has to run the country for a bit. At least that would give him something to do and delay him trying to meddle with human rights.

One Republican, one Trumplican/MAGA. If people think DJT hasn’t changed politics for life, then they are fools. And yes, you are right to say “Where the US goes, we follow”. Farage and Arron Banks were over there looking and learning. Learning the rhetoric. Learning how to frighten people with lies on immigration etc. Now the so-called GOP are challenging free and fair elections, challenging Congress committees, storming government buildings. Sure, it also means the EU can be indecisive and slow, but at least we are forced to listen to each other and find some consensus. In the EU, it is impossible for one person or one party to make ALL decisions. This is even impossible in most European countries. The US and UK simply don't understand how you can make a functioning government when no party has a majority. In your rotten two-party system, you end up with a situation where everyone is categorized as "us" or "them". This is impossible in (for example) Belgium, where a federal government exists of at least 4 different parties, each with different views.
