Man, just wanted to say how much I am enjoying your GY6 series. Ive just acquired a super low use, 1000 mile 6 year old 125CC scoot that has been standing in a container most of its life. hey great video your channel is extremely helpful. but, I have a question for you when my 50cc gy6 scooter idles the clutch bangs back and forth and shakes the whole bike. Any idea why that is moving back and forth left to right while idling ?
I have a 50cc Tao Tao I putt around on. I just noticed a clacking noise coming from the back. Have you ever considered lubricating the shaft with antiseize before installing to prolong life? not much or it could get on the belt and make it slip just a little antiseize on the spring shaft so it continues to function?
Those fins are not sharp. If you do it carefully, position the belt properly, and make sure the belt is ALL THE WAY DOWN in the clutch pulley, you will have no problems at all. I have done is many times before with zero damage to the belt. I have the same exact kevlar belt.
Hi there, really helpful video. I have an off road buggy which has a gy6, the drive belt has snapped and shredded many times, I have bought spare ones now but I'm not sure why it keeps on snapping. I am in the process of taking the clutch off to inspect it but I was wondering if this is a common problem with gy6 clutches and if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks
My kids just bought a slightly used on that is an 08 go cart 150 but same motor. My clutch keeps popping and resetting if I floor it or go up a steeper hill. Can I call you or u call me so I can figure out the problem since I trust your experience you have shown on youtube?
I have many people that email me private messages, so it is very hard to help everyone, but it does sound like either your belt is worn(and is slipping), or you need to replace your clutch assembly/springs. You can buy them on Ebay cheap. This info only applies if the engine is running perfectly. If your engine is cutting in/out, then you may have a carb problem or timing issue.
Hello friend. Good job. Please can you tell me if i cut some of the spring, after that can I put it again with no problem? I mean can I put back STRAIGHT and all the clutch works properly? Thanks. Kostas.
I want to do shorter because I cannot find shorter or softer. I have a Yamaha Xenter. BUT I do not know if after I cut it, if clutch works normal or spring has the force on the little side and not straight. Thank you for your time.
What size is the clutch nut? I heard it was quite large. Just want to know what size socket to purchase before starting the job. A friend of mine wasn't able to remove it with his pliers so I want to use an impact. Thanks
I think I used 18mm. I would have to remove my cover to be positive. Yours may be different. You never know. Thanks For Watching. Be sure to share and rate "Thumbs Up"
+Cecilia Hudon I suggest you try the leak stop treatment for oil. Taking apart the entire engine to replace a crankshaft seal is not a job for the average person. Thanks.
electronicsNmore - Thanks for the great tips! I was wondering (I'm a novice, so please excuse the stupid question) does jour 1500rpm springs give you a higher top speed? I'm busing rebuilding a Johnway 125cc.
No. All the 1500 RPM springs do is determine when the clutch begins to engage to turn the rear wheel. If your looking for higher top end speed, replacing a worn belt can give you higher top end speed. As the belt wears, it gets narrower and does not ride as high in the pulley. You can also try using heavier rollers in your variator. You will also have better gas mileage, but you will have slightly less power up hills. Making sure your caburetor mixture screw is properly adjusted, can help also. Thanks For Watching! Be sure to share, and rate a thumbs up.
No need to. You can do it if you want. LOL What you do not seem to understand is the reason why it seemed difficult to remove, was because the clutch was DAMAGED and would not open fully. Ordinarily it would come off much easier. You have to be crazy to remove the variator fan just to change the belt.
Great video! I'm having clutch area noise and bogging down at certain speed. Have you this this type of problem with this CVT? I've already been through carb and ignition troubleshooting. Thanks!
Bogging down at higher speeds is usually a valve adjustment issue, bad timing(marks not lined up as shown in my valve adjustment video), or a faulty spark plug/ignition coil/CDI.
I saw you having a problem when opening and closing the part where the belt is. I'm having the same problem and my belt keeps breaking and I think that's why the belt is breaking. What should I change the big spring or?
Perhaps if you share your experience the first time you removed the nut of the clutch then that would help because that nut is flipping hard to get off. Trying to find the best alternative before I buy the tool removal for the clutch bolt. Or is it only tight when lock tight is applied? I don't think mine's been removed before since I only had the drive belt replaced. So I'm guessing the clutch has never has touched. I have a 2006 model so more than 10yrs old but it doesn't look rusted. Overall, I like the idea of using a bigger wrench and the clamps to hold it down. I'm going to try that way if I can get the bolt off first lol. So is the clutch the only reason to cause a jump aggressively offline or trying to take off? My scooter done almost 38,000kms and haven't changed the clutch yet.
Hold the variator with a large oil filter strap wrench, then remove the nut. If it's difficult to remove, then apply some heat to the nut using a propane torch. Don't get things too hot! Thanks for watching
@@electronicsNmore OK finally received my Oil Filter strap wrench unfortunately the result was the same too bloody tight Arrhhhh :( I tried the blow Torch and still no good. Still haven't given up yet. Going to buy another tool which I'm hoping it will clamp on it so this will be my last option. If worse case I am going to have to cut off the nut and will buy a new one hopefully not too expensive lol. So I've already ordered the new springs and should receive it anytime soon. Will post back for further updates.
hey bro I love your vids very good instruction. I have a roketa 150cc and am tricking it out I.E new racing clutch 1500rpm springs, new variator with 14 g rollers, and I am wondering about what you call that part that was faulty in this video? I would like to get a spare just for when I do encounter this problem. Its not the clutch it is those two disks that hold the belt . WTF is that part of the clutch called lol! thanks, and you are awesome for actually replying to people scoot on bro!
+Nathaniel Brown i see you call it the pulley, but when searching ebay for a 150cc pulley it does not show this part unless you purchase a full assembly.
I tried taking off my belt like this video and the other CV belt removal by squeezing clutch assembly. I can't get the belt pushed down all the way and I am wondering if it is faulty? I am also noticing the rear tire doesn't spin freely when on the center kick stand and when I try to push the scooter when not running it is very difficult. Another sign the clutch is bad?
Aaron Woolhiser When the scooter is on the center kickstand, the rear wheel should spin. If it does not, then the clutch or gears in the rear wheel are bad. Some new inexpensive belts are made slightly wider making them very difficult to install using the method shown in this video. After the belt is pushed all the way to the bottom of the clutch pulley, you may need to take a small piece of 3/4" thick wood and tap the belt further down into the pulley. Doing that will help get the belt around the variator.
I replace the engine and transmission on my scooter 2 years ago have not rode it much. The rod bearing worn in the old. Question about the crankshaft? I am planning on building another 150cc with a few mods and the stock crankshafts are pressed. Is there a way to get them so the rod bearings are not pressed?
I don't think so. I know swapping out the crankshaft is no big deal, but I have never had to replace a rod bearing. I'm not sure of the exact procedure, or special tools required. You might have to take the crankshaft along with the new parts, over to a machine shop to have them swap things out. What they are able to do in minutes, would take you hours if you were able to do it. Thanks For Watching!
+JohnsonBarry Could be a few things. Valve adjustment is not correct, HV breakdown of the spark plug wire, faulty spark plug, timing off, faulty CDI, faulty carb.
Steve from Annapolis take a rubber mallet tap the clutch bell all the way around and keep trying to squeeze it and the belt will come off repeat rubber mallet keep tapping it takuaches will snap loose got my voter like your show
+Buck sKellington LeBlanc Possibly a faulty starter gear. Watch my other video to see what it looks like and where it is located. Thanks. th-cam.com/video/BDu-KrQ_aCE/w-d-xo.html
Hello Dave. The large spring(Contra Spring) is what adjusts how the clutch pulley opens, which affects the gear ratio between the variator & clutch. The spring determines the level or torque. The 3 smaller springs determine how much force is needed to allow the clutch pads to push outward and engage the clutch bell. I think factory uses a 1000 for the contra spring.
Dave Hayslip Check the valve clearances and make sure the timing marks line up. I have a video for that. Could be a carb issue if the valves & timing are OK.
Hey electronisNmore I have a peace sport 150 cc scooter a screw fell out that held In gear oil. I didn't notice till to late and one day it started making a lot of noise back end area and as I was trying to get it home it just stopped going. Small pieces of metal fall out now from the clutch assembly. My question is that didn't mess up my engine it and after I replace the whole clutch and gear stuff back there where do I add the gear oil at and what is the gear oil for?
You place the scooter on the center kickstand then slowly add gear oil into the bolt opening near the top until it starts flowing out of the bolt hole.
nice video, can you help me with my kymco super 8 scooter 125, my belt broke and i replaced it with new one already (genuine kymco belt). I started using the scooter and when im in full stop and twist the throttle slowly, it started to accelerate but with shaking/juddering and then it feels like someone kick my scooter at the rear, as it starts to run.fast, my scooter is normal. but when I stop.(e.g in stoplight) it starts all over again (shaking/juddering thing before it runs normal again at higher speed). my question is,,, do I need to replace the whole clutch thing, or is there only part of the Clutch that need to be replaced? do I need to disassemble the clutch assembly (like what you did on your vid) an clean it parts by parts? your suggestions will surely help me. thanks
@@electronicsNmore Yep, 400Nm version is ready, 38mm socket also ready, but i need reduction piece for that square connection. On impact wrench is 1/2inch and on socket that bigger one, not sure exact size..
When will people that teach you there short cut ways they think is easy or cheaper or both going to Please Teach us the right way or ways safety is my priority but the amount of money it cost is always number ONE.
Loctite is a thread locking compound. I used the red high strength type when I re-assembled the variator nut or clutch assembly nut. If you have an impact wrench, then you do not need any loctite. You can hold the variator fan using a strap wrench, then tighten the nut down with a ratchet. The loctite ensures the nut will never loosen at high RPM. 4 years I have used it, accumulating thousands of miles, and never a failure. Thanks For Watching
Hi Kevin, You can buy a complete gy6 clutch assembly on Ebay for around $35.00. Thanks For watching! Be sure to check out my video playlists, and don't forget to rate a thumbs up.
Hello, I've seen your video for diagnosing sounds from the engine, and I believe my clutch has gone bad. I have about 12k miles on my 125cc scooter, and when riding it yesterday it starting banging really hard once around 35 mph. I noticed after inspecting my wheel turns without throttle, and I have been getting a decrease in performance lately. In addition, where is the best place to buy parts from in your opinion?
electronicsNmore clutch it sticking and I'm having trouble getting off the belt, and the clutch is also warped. appears to be similar problem. where do you get your parts?
i have a 150cc herritage scooter, while riding one night it stopped moving. bike was still running and throttled however no power to wheels...what can this be? please help
Maybe to you he is right, but you WILL NOT break any fin off, or damage the belt. I have proven this OVER and OVER. Almost 4 years later, and I have removed the belt many times with no problems at all. Good luck taking off the variator if you are on the road when it breaks. Always carry a spare belt, and do as I outlined in this video.
On different scooters, I hope!!:) Well, if proven to work well you can continue doing it that way!!! Without a special torquewrench it's also one of the few options you have!
whimpey109 I almost said something bad 2 you My belt broke 100 miles from home, the only thing I had is several screwdrivers a wrench, torch for soldering little things that I always carry (I did not have a cell phone on me ) and I was angry it took me some time but I replaced it and returned home safely If a variator holder does not break it nothing will and the belt is not a joke that can be so easily damaged by merely rubing on som parts while the engine is running there is a lot more damaging force applied on it and I was in the fucking mountains so do you think I care if a little something is damaged everyone knows how to talk and basically does not know anything about motorcycles it is not a fucking Marshmallow that it can be damaged so easily
AnimaxRex sorry for my language but I was scared then I've never seen how it is done I did not know how to replace it and something like this might have helped me
If you do not have an impact wrench to reinstall the nut, then you should gently clean the threads on the crankshaft and inside the nut with a wire brush , wipe the threads clean with rubbing alcohol on a cloth, then apply medium strength thread locking compound(Loctite) to the threads before tightening the nut back down. Doing this will prevent the nut from loosening under high RPM's. You can use an oil filter strap wrench to hold the variator when you tighten it. Make it tight, but do not get carried away.
electronicsNmore I have an impact wrench but when removing I drew a line on the nut and washer (which both come off when removing) so now for re-install I don't know how tight to put it, so just hit it with a impact gun a little and that's it?
Don't worry about it. Hold the variator with one hand tight as you can, and use the impact wrench to tighten it down. Not super critical, but make sure it is tight. If you are paranoid, use the Loctite medium strength blue thread locker.
l watch you video first then took my belt cover off l notice. there was some oil in there. l though that area was suppose to be clean and dry where would the oil be coming have any idea
+Cecilia Hudon Hi Cecilia. The seal behind the variator(One of the crankshaft seals), may be worn and leaking. If there is only a small amount of oil, no biggie, but if there is a lot of oil, you will need to replace the crankshaft seal, which is a big job. You may also have a leaky seal behind the clutch pulley. You can also try adding a leak stop additive to your oil. The additive causes the rubber seals to swell up and make a better seal. Thanks For Watching! Be sure to rate thumbs up and share.
An impact wrench and cheap Ebay impact bits would have done basically everything here. Mine was $60 for a Kawasaki brand impact wrench and twenty bucks for the bits that would have done everything here (10mm-29mm, 39mm one for the clutch). Seriously people, don't buy the bike if you can't buy the tools.
May i send you a GY6 manual? I wish to confirm that it is authentic. It could be "incomplete" as I downloaded it. I want to use it and am worried to do so. Thanks.
Hello, I need help with my scooter Keeway Silverblade 125, i bought it two months ago, and i drove on it maybe 300km when something went wrong. When scooter was working properly it could get to 9000RPM, but now around 6000RPM it looses power and something starts squeeling from variator. I tried to replace rollers in variator, i replaced springs in clutch and "big" spring but all it did is that it doenst squeel so much. But the main problem is still there when i hit 6000RPM i can´t accelerate anymore and i have to release gas, and when it drops down a little the scooter is again behaving fine until i hit 6000RPM. I am thankfull for any reply.
@@electronicsNmore I forgot to mention I also replaced belt, and nothing changed. And I also forgot to mention that when I hit 6000RPM and don´t let go of gas, it will go down to 5500RPM and won´t go over until I release gas and re engage it.
Having a problem getting my casing off took all the bolts off and for some reason it is being held on where the bar where the kick start is..... weird!!
+Keith Mass Wiggle and pull! That is a common problem. Grease up the kick start shaft that slides into the sleeve bearing on the CV cover before putting the CV cover back on.
+electronicsNmore Thanks. Got it off. Was not easy though the setup had to get the front cover off with the gears attached to the cover! Had to have the kick start arm attached and move and pull the cover off. Ok managed to free the bar from the cover, the one thats next to the kick start arm, took a lot of twisting and pulling but eventually came free. Going to test my potential fix tomorrow as light once again stopped me. Drive belt and clutch seemed good to me. Highly suspect the kick start gearing not being in correct position causing a problem.
+Charles Randolph Hello. Sounds like a worn camshaft bearing or crankshaft bearing. Higher odds the camshaft bearing. Remove the valve cover and inspect the bearings. Be sure to rate thumbs up and share. Thanks!

Do I want the heavy duty 2000RPM springs on our offroad cart? How do I tell if the belt is worn?
Hello friend. Good job. Please can you tell me if i cut some of the spring, after that can I put it again with no problem? I mean can I put back STRAIGHT and all the clutch works properly?
Thanks. Kostas.
I would replace it. When you cut the spring, you are making it shorter.
I want to do shorter because I cannot find shorter or softer. I have a Yamaha Xenter.
BUT I do not know if after I cut it, if clutch works normal or spring has the force on the little side and not straight. Thank you for your time.
So if I had a new full clutch assembly, would I just slide the old one off and new on? Or do springs need to be installed on new clutch assembly?
Slides off the shaft.
You never know.

do you have a video about my problem so l can watch it and understand better thank you so much on replying to my question so soon.
+Cecilia Hudon
I suggest you try the leak stop treatment for oil. Taking apart the entire engine to replace a crankshaft seal is not a job for the average person.
Thanks.
how would i put it back together? do it just press the spring back into place or does it have to be done professionally?
should be shown in the video.
electronicsNmore - Thanks for the great tips!
Thanks for the fast reply! It is at low speed. It feels like it wants to "shift" but can't.
Patrick Wood Probably a faulty clutch/variator
I saw you having a problem when opening and closing the part where the belt is. I'm having the same problem and my belt keeps breaking and I think that's why the belt is breaking. What should I change the big spring or?
I stated in the video that the clutch pulley was faulty, which was why I had some difficulty removing the belt.
@@electronicsNmore OK finally received my Oil Filter strap wrench unfortunately the result was the same too bloody tight Arrhhhh :(
I tried the blow Torch and still no good.
@@electronicsNmore The pulley tool. Got it and replaced it. Riding smoothly now. No longer jumping aggressively or shaking anymore. Thx
@@buckmajor Great to hear! Be sure to check out my other videos and share my channel with others. Thanks
hey bro I love your vids very good instruction.
+Nathaniel Brown is it called the Performance CVT sheave???
Thank you🙏👌🖐🇮🇱
Use blue lock tight and you wont have to use the heat. Red not meant to be taken off on a regler basis, blue is..
David Kendall I have blue also. I'm just overly cautious. :-)
I pit a new clutch on and wheel still turn with the clutch (locked up) any ideas?
How do you put it back on
Nice videos, my gy6 is bogging on wot and I can't figure out why. Any suggestions?
+JohnsonBarry
Could be a few things. Valve adjustment is not correct, HV breakdown of the spark plug wire, faulty spark plug, timing off, faulty CDI, faulty carb.
Steve from Annapolis take a rubber mallet tap the clutch bell all the way around and keep trying to squeeze it and the belt will come off repeat rubber mallet keep tapping it takuaches will snap loose got my voter like your show
I striped something with the kickstarter that even the electric start won't catch now. Any idea what it could be?
+Buck sKellington LeBlanc
Possibly a faulty starter gear. Watch my other video to see what it looks like and where it is located. Thanks.

What is the advantage to changing the large spring to a 1500 rpm spring, verses the factory spring?
Mine is all stock and seems to get sluggish in the high end of the throttle I don't know if I need to rejet the carburetor or what
Dave Hayslip Check the valve clearances and make sure the timing marks line up.
Will this clutch GY6 125 will it work for a Yamaha Vino 125 ?
Not sure Shaun, you'll need to look up your part online to compare. Thanks for watching!
Using the puller! This is the way
Great video but could have been done in half the time. At least a little editing haha but other tham being nitpicky this is great.
Is this the same for a 50cc gy6. I've bought some 1500rpm clutch springs and a 1500rpm torque spring that i want to install.
Hi there,
Yes, the same procedure applies.
Thanks For Watching!
Is there any gasket between the engine and the clutch cover ?
mohamed anbar Yes, a paper gasket under the CV cover.
So the clutch I suspose to come in when you squeeze it, mine won't, Zuma 125!
nice video, can you help me with my kymco super 8 scooter 125, my belt broke and i replaced it with new one already (genuine kymco belt). I started using the scooter and when im in full stop and twist the throttle slowly, it started to accelerate but with shaking/juddering and then it feels like someone kick my scooter at the rear, as it starts to run.fast, my scooter is normal. but when I stop.(e.g in stoplight) it starts all over again (shaking/juddering thing before it runs normal again at higher speed). my question is,,, do I need to replace the whole clutch thing, or is there only part of the Clutch that need to be replaced? do I need to disassemble the clutch assembly (like what you did on your vid) an clean it parts by parts? your suggestions will surely help me. thanks
Sounds like a loose belt, or a faulty clutch pulley.
+electronicsNmore I already replaced a new belt, if its a faulty clutch, do I need to replace the clutch assembly?
charlson sarita
It's sold as one piece. They're inexpensive.
Oh man, I can't loose the nut which hold the big variator spring. It holds like hell. And I can not find 38mm socekt for my impact wrench....
If you can't, then you'll need an impact wrench.
@@electronicsNmore Yep, 400Nm version is ready, 38mm socket also ready, but i need reduction piece for that square connection. On impact wrench is 1/2inch and on socket that bigger one, not sure exact size..
4.37. Use a 3 legged puller. Under a tenner. Easy job.
Does removing the kick start gears really make scooter faster? On mine, previous owner removed it...
No
thanks for the answer, i knew it!
When will people that teach you there short cut ways they think is easy or cheaper or both going to Please Teach us the right way or ways safety is my priority but the amount of money it cost is always number ONE.
coud you explaint te me what locktide is?
Loctite is a thread locking compound. I used the red high strength type when I re-assembled the variator nut or clutch assembly nut. If you have an impact wrench, then you do not need any loctite. You can hold the variator fan using a strap wrench, then tighten the nut down with a ratchet. The loctite ensures the nut will never loosen at high RPM. 4 years I have used it, accumulating thousands of miles, and never a failure.

You can buy a complete gy6 clutch assembly on Ebay for around $35.00.

Jake L You need to remove the CV cover and look at everything.
electronicsNmore clutch it sticking and I'm having trouble getting off the belt, and the clutch is also warped. appears to be similar problem. where do you get your parts?

i have a 150cc herritage scooter, while riding one night it stopped moving. bike was still running and throttled however no power to wheels...what can this be? please help
Very Simple. Your belt broke. Don't forget to rate a "thumbs up", share, and check out my other videos as well.
Thank You.
Agreed, this is exactly what happened to my Znen 150. Just pulled the cover off this morning and that indeed was the problem.
Paraglidermx is right! You better take of the variator! You can brake off a fin or two or damage the new belt!
AnimaxRex sorry for my language but I was scared then I've never seen how it is done I did not know how to replace it and something like this might have helped me
The method works fine, but it does require good strength in your hands/fingers. :-)

Broken belt.
@@electronicsNmore I will check thnx
@@electronicsNmore and oil is finish what oil is good for this scooter. I buy it secondhand. thnx
how tight does the variator bolt go back on?
If you are paranoid, use the Loctite medium strength blue thread locker.
electronicsNmore cool thanks!
l watch you video first then took my belt cover off l notice. there was some oil in there.
l though that area was suppose to be clean and dry where would the oil be coming have any idea
+Cecilia Hudon
Hi Cecilia.
Cecilia Hudon Hi
An impact wrench and cheap Ebay impact bits would have done basically everything here. Mine was $60 for a Kawasaki brand impact wrench and twenty bucks for the bits that would have done everything here (10mm-29mm, 39mm one for the clutch). Seriously people, don't buy the bike if you can't buy the tools.
U're using 1500 rpm springs ins clutch and counter pressure spring. Which roller size and weight do you have?
18x14 - 15 gram.
electronicsNmore Thanks. What weight does your scooter have ex works? And do you have to use heavier rollers with the 1500 rpm springs?

I'd never run it at that high RPM. Higher RPM = SHORTER engine life. Replace your belt.
@@electronicsNmore I forgot to mention I also replaced belt, and nothing changed. And I also forgot to mention that when I hit 6000RPM and don´t let go of gas, it will go down to 5500RPM and won´t go over until I release gas and re engage it.
gd am sr, do you have a wiring diagram for s8,150,if you don't mind may i ask for a copy of it. tnx in advance

Sure sounds like a broken belt, or faulty clutch.
Having a problem getting my casing off took all the bolts off and for some reason it is being held on where the bar where the kick start is..... weird!!
+Keith Mass
Wiggle and pull!
+Keith Mass There's a video on that around here somewheres called kick start gear alignment or something like that.

Sounds like your belt has become too narrow/loose for the pulley(worn out).
When I start my scooter it seems it is in gear. I have to start it with it up on the kick stand. It will not idle. Is that the clutch?
If you start the scooter, and it is ONLY idling(Normal RPM 1200 or so), and the rear wheel is spinning, you need a new clutch.
