  • At a cost of about .65 cents each these are inexpensive Deer / Yellow fly traps that are easy to make and very, very effective. It may also keep that nosy neighbor away, get your picture taken by the local paper or end up on the MTV show Ridiculousness, anything is possible.

    I can't thank you enough! For anybody reading this - IT WORKS!
    I live in rural Ontario, Canada. The deer flies are so bad, I thought I was going to have to sell my house. I ordered some tanglefoot off amazon and made a goofy rubber glove hat. Within seconds I had flies stuck to the glove. Jeff, I can't thank you enough. Now I can finaly enjoy my backyard!

    I take an old hat and apply silver (reflecting) duct tape to it.
    Then, coat it with TangleTrap.
    I am the ultimate bait, so I place the hat on my head (short hair only).
    The underside of the bill has orange duct tape to remind me
    I am wearing a weapon, and to NOT touch the top of the hat.
    After walking around for a while, I return to the shop and
    either remove the flies or rip the duct tape off, and start over.
    GASOLINE is required to get this stuff off anything it touches,
    but the joy of catching so many deer flies is completely worth.
    I started making the "Gnat Hat" over 10 years ago, and
    it has allowed me to return to the great outdoors when we have
    black flies and deer flies.
    Mr. Brown
    North Central Florida.
    Thank you sir.

      @mrbrown6421 FYI, Pure Citrus Orange Air Freshener, Orange Scented Non-Aerosol Air Freshener supposedly removes the sticky compound. Better choice than gasoline. Certainly would smell better!

    Thank you for this!!! Out of no where we got deer flies at our home here in Pennsylvania in just the last 3 years - and we’ve lived here 9 years! Now they won’t leave us or our dogs alone. Especially with our black dog they go right in between her eyes and bite her! Going to get stocked up on everything now!

    Tanglefoot spray. Nice. I've used the tub style that looks like honey-butter. I once had a bad problem with gnat-like pests. I noticed they liked to land on string or skinny sticks like skewers or similar form. I applied some tanglefoot with a popsicle stick onto a wire to hang near the garbage. At the end of the day the wire was covered. The tanglefoot is super sticky. I use Isopropyl to remove it from the fingers if needed.

    I had my first bite ever a few days ago. It's only when I work with a certain potting soil that has manure so I see them. It rings a dinner bell for flies but makes great fruits and veggies.

    Along the gulf coast at a certain time of the year you can’t hardly stand to be outside when these things move in. They will attack the windows of your vehicle trying to get in while you drive down the driveway. If they were the size of a hummingbird I believe that there wouldn’t be any humans left down here.

      I grew up in Wyoming, and all my life, I had never been bitten by anything other than mosquitos, and never been stung by wasps/bees. The moment I move here, a scant hour north of the Gulf coast, I get bitten, stung, and bothered to a degree that is astonishing. They LOVE me here. I despise the horsefly variety that's found here. I never thought I would hate a bloodsucker worse than mosquitos, and yet here I am, looking at this gem of a video, getting the right ideas to tackle this.

  • @hotchihuahua1546

    It’s funny but I think it’s a good idea . With these gloves hanging and with a small breeze would attract these flys to the movement .

    • @jeffwillard2417
      @jeffwillard2417  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does look comical, but they really do work well. I think it helps that they look like something alive and your correct, just a slight breeze makes them move. It will be funny when I see a picture in the news with someone wearing this while mowing their lawn, fishing or hiking.

    Balloons are far cheaper than nitrile gloves and work as well.

    • @jeffwillard2417
      @jeffwillard2417  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never tried balloons because I thought the solvent in the Tanglefoot would break down the latex in the balloons. Give it a try and let us know your results, thanks..

  • @Arnd2it

    OK, why the glove and not just a balloon? And doesn't yellow attract better?

    • @jeffwillard2417
      @jeffwillard2417  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Arn2it,
      The gloves are made from nitrile and balloons are made of latex, the nitrile is a whole lot tougher materiel. I have read articles from College and County Extensions that the colors blue and black are the most effective attracting those horrible Yellow/Deer Flies., I find that blue seems to work better than black. Thanks for watching....

    BTW, Blue reflects 380-400 nm light wave length. The same as the light in Bug Zappers. Amazon has this in a LED light bulb form $4. I own 4 of them. I kill millions of all kinds of insects of all kinds each year. The swaying of the correct light nm wavelength is what attracts their attention. Swaying bug zappers will kill every flying insect in your yard. Tanglefoot is best turned into glue boards for crawling insects.
