If you work a sedentary job all day, the only way you'll get 10k plus steps in is by doing cardio on a stepper, strider or treadmill. I have to do this an hour a day at low intensity. 30mins before work and 30mins after my workout. Its all person dependent with their life situation.
Most people believe in cardio because of propaganda. It came from a doctor back in the 1960's named Ken Cooper who wrote a book about aerobics. His team figured out that if you exercised between 65-80 percent of your maximum heart rate, you would burn the maximum amount of fat calories per minute of exercise. His ideas started the jogging craze of the 1970's, and fitness centers with their treadmills, lifecycles, and stairmasters soon followed based on his research. The problem with Dr Cooper's idea was it was based on how much fat calories you burn while exercising. This is not what really matters. What really matters is exercising in a fashion that causes your body to get fitter. Aerobic, or cardiovascular exercise, although certainly not bad most of the time is not intense enough to improve your fitness very quickly. The whole point of exercise is to force your body to get fit quicker, because we evolved to improve our fitness rapidly if we exercise intensely. We actually accomplish getting fitter when we rest and sleep, not during the exercise. Sure, cardio will get you fit a little bit, and burn some fat, but doing it endlessly just puts pressure on your body you don't need. Cardio is just fine, but if you want to get fit quick, you need to sprint and lift weights intensely, and not too much. Evolution proves this.
I love cardio. Run easy 5-7K five times a week. Sometimes throw in sprints on the treadmill with the incline cranked up. Best hormone producing activity in my book
And many studies support that finding. You can actually rev up your HGH production with intense cardio training, and reduce circulating myostatin. Plus, not everybody can stay lean just by lifting weights.
The same goes for their diet. When you are on insulin when you are on a multitude of synthetic anabolics, your diet and cardio needs are very different.
Thanks for this video , I been trying for like 3 months this Idea , because make sense , Replace the cardio , for another work out , I feel Cardio kill my gains , n is real hard to recover, with another , workout , Reciver better, n the muscle pop out. Thanks Michael n stan .
The biggest lie in fitness is that cars kills gains. It’s just a preference in that you’re going to expend some calories doing cardio. But that expense is worth it because you’re training your heart which is kinda important when you’re tallying gains. So don’t look at it like that. Look at it like you’re making long term gains in that you’ll be able to be healthier while you’re older.
I “personally” like cardio. My sad is certified muscle man and he says it’s not necessary however… for me “personally” it is. It fuels me well and keeps me on my mental toes
I Jog/Fast Pace Walk 4-7 times a week. Rarely run(Not Necessary), but Cardio is super important for heart health. Diet is #1, but Cardio doesn’t fall far behind. Yes, you can lose weight without doing a second of exercise, but you enhance your health by adding regular cardio. Even if it’s only 15 minutes a day.
I agree 100% ! Cardio is only as essential as to how much you eat or how much you lift depending on your goals. I have had high blood pressure, It is hereditary, bloodwork tested perfect and doctor was scratching his head. Cardio just isnt always the answer. I believe Moderate cardio may be helpful if you dont lift other wise. High intensity weight training and calories in and calories out are more important than slapping un-nesessary cardio,I just fade away, arms and legs get skinny and heart beats too fast... Less muscle burns less calories. Calories are for longevity. Blood pressure can just have a mind of its own if it is hereditary. I just lift intensely eat right and that works best for me as a natty .I also found that if I mix in multiple reps of 20 helps with endurance and that really works for me ;) Un-nesessary outside stress is what can really negatively go against your health and you need to get proper sleep or else our body can go against you. John Cena doesn't do cardio either and he was said to be one of the fittest athletes on the planet.
Weight resistance training is best fat burner. Build and maintain muscle mass is more efficient on body to stay trim and burn fat. Sheep are BRAINWASHED. Cardio is waste of time. Weight training and add muscle mass is best thing any human can do.

I personally like keeping cardio and activity high and never having to go sub 3000 calories on a cut......could i be bigger/stronger if I didnt do as much? Maybe, but for me it's about fitness and not just trying to be as big as possible. Cardio is great for my mental health as well, I feel great when doing consistent cardio!
Same. I only do cardio to allow myself to eat 3800 calories daily without becoming 270 pounds and obese. I find that I never have to even once get hungry at 3800
How do you measure your Vo2 max as a average Joe? Can you explain why people live longer if they are skinnier and are always moving not with lifting weights but with gardening, cleaning, walking, running, handyman work stuff like that? The 80-90 year olds are not usually lifting weights but there still alive and healthy for the most part.
The thing I never got is isn't doing a high intensity lifting session is basically a form of cardio? The heart rate is up throughout the entire session so wouldn't you get the same cardiovascular benefits or is the continuous motion of the running, swimming, biking, etc make the difference in the conventional thoughts on this.
THIS was a great conversation! I've been Bodybuilding and an athlete in many disciplines. I found that exercises like bent over rows, squats, farmers walk and others stimulate INCREDIBLE cardio benefits when done on the high rep range or longer time duration. Awesome info Guys!

I spent about 3 months doing cardio, and after losing a few pounds, I stagnated and tbh, just didn't feel strong. Switched to more strength training, and I feel and look better. I only do shadow boxing and skipping now. Not endless treadmill hikes.
I've always sworn some heavy deadlifts or squats will give you more intense cardio than running a mile! I'm sure there's some differences in training the endurance of the muscles when running that you won't get from squats potentially BUT, and it's a big but, if you squat 4 sets of 10 somewhere around 75-80% of your 1 rep max your heart is going to be pumping HARD! And you'll be super out of breath 🫁 especially if you push your rest time down to 1.5 minutes or so. Most people including myself just don't have the will power or want to run hard enough and long enough to get that same heart rate and breathing elevation. Running feels like you're breaking the body down rather than building it up to me. A really good cardio device is the rowing machine, if you want some good resistance/cardio a rowing machine is maybe the best. The resistance is directly dependant on how hard you pull with your arms and push with your legs. You can literally get a bicep and back pump alongside a leg pump all while getting your heart rate super high and breathing heavily and it happens pretty quickly. A 2000 meter row as hard as you can will kick most people's asses.
Not sure if you’d know the answer to this but...I walk 10k+ steps 5 x week during my 5 hour night shift, I also train with weights intensely for 2 hours 3 x week. Should I include 20 min of moderate intense cardio on elliptical for heart health 3 x week after lifting also or is the walking and weight training enough for heart health and would the cardio negate muscle gains? If what I’m doing with the walking and weights is enough, I’d rather skip the extra cardio for time reasons.
Here's something fun ....see how long you can walk on the climb/ stepmill with 35pound weighted vest on. You'll be fcuked after 5-6 mins. That's when the fun starts. 😁
Absolutely true. When i do heavy cardio like 3-5 times a week, i get super sucked up. Legs get small, arms etc! And i look less in shape. Being a ex football player i feel ive done well my share of cardio Not mention it makes my heart race
Not saying this is right, but I go 8-12 rounds on the heavy bag, 2-3 times a week and I feel like it helps my shoulders and also helps me achieve better intensity in my weight training. Thoughts? male / age 40 / 195lbs / 5'10"
Did we get to the average Joe? Maybe I missed it. The average Joe needs 150 minutes of cardio a week AND resistance training at least 3 times a week. Lately Hathor Bjorensen has benefitted greatly from cardio intensive workouts, and it has probably saved his life. Anyone using PED's has to factor in their sport, age, intensity, diet and health; at some point you can't deadlift 1k pounds anymore and you have to adapt to your body breaking down. If you're consuming more than 6k calories a day to be strong in your 50's for over 30 years you might be killing yourself slowly. Most runners consume less calories and can balance themselves throughout multiple athletic endeavors, where lifting heavy and looking like a Mr. Olympian demands too much on the body over time. Cardio is the answer to problems associated with lifting heavy for long periods.
I will say this not doing cardio makes me Lazy. I at least need three days of cardio a week. If I lift weights and don’t do cardio after a week or so I will start to feel depressed and Lazy. Very true. Was surprised recently to realise am getting quite aerobically fit again. Doing 30/40 mins of cardio after each session just for the endorphins, not even thinking of health. The movement definitely gets rid of that lazy, stagnant feeling. I run at least a 4 miles a week. If anything, it's been a great add on to my regimen this year. I love hitting the track after a great session at the gym.
I love Stan he's so Authentic. Thanks for bringing him on.
I'm a 67-year-old bodybuilder I'm 5 feet tall and weigh 118 to 121 and still look cut, that's the only way I know that I am growing! LOL. I competed in 87 and 91 it was a short career. but life had to happen. Now I'm retired and my training is amazing...I never do cardio...I'm a jump roper, I do that once in a while just cause of love to jump but my metabolism is already blowing up. I have always been active...cheerleading all in high school. I was first singles tennis in my SENIOR year. I road my bike12 miles there and back to practice hitting the ball against a school wall. I was a farm girl. I worked right along with the guys...I eat healthy, bodybuilder style. body fat is maybe 12 15 % My legs are better than in my 30's. When I train I like to super set...I'm going for an hour and 15 minutes of constant movement...I keep moving or I'm super setting and I still train heavy...My heart is going when I push the sled with 4 plates...yes 67! I'm not bragging but with the exception of the older skin I look so much more fit that the 20 year old's...A big ass is not glutes! hahahaha! I'm kind of sassy like that...I have to admit I am an exception...I come with an extra battery hahahaha! Get fit live longer. Haven't been to a doctor in 15 years at least, I'm no drugs and smoke weed since I was 19. I don't go crazy it's my wine and I don't get the munchies...If I get the munches, I make a really good protein shake. TY
If you work a sedentary job all day, the only way you'll get 10k plus steps in is by doing cardio on a stepper, strider or treadmill. I have to do this an hour a day at low intensity. 30mins before work and 30mins after my workout.
Its all person dependent with their life situation.
Excellent content. Eloquent and specific, thanks gentlemen.
💯💯💯💯💯

Awesome interview!!!!💪😀👍
Great conversation and information. Thanks
Me too helps me stay lean
Please please please follow up with the powerlifting aspect with Stan. Cardio and powerlifters. Great show
I agree 100% !
@Eddie spagetti
I consult no-nothings at my gym every day. Whatever ails you, well cardio has to be the answer! The sheeple refuse to listen and the grow fatter by the day.
love these guys! both are inspirations
That's because cardio is healthy and good for you, and these guys are not into health, they're into strength and bodybuilding. Keep doing what you do!
Same. I only do cardio to allow myself to eat 3800 calories daily without becoming 270 pounds and obese. I find that I never have to even once get hungry at 3800
Great conversation fellas. Quite educational. Thank you.
The Heart is the most important muscle in the body.
THIS was a great conversation! I've been Bodybuilding and an athlete in many disciplines. I found that exercises like bent over rows, squats, farmers walk and others stimulate INCREDIBLE cardio benefits when done on the high rep range or longer time duration. Awesome info Guys!
A set of 15 reps for squats. Is like running 5 miles. It taxes the cardiovascular system
This is an amazing video with great information! Thank you for the video as I enjoyed it all especially with 2 of the best w/ Stan And Mike! GAINZ 💪🏼👊🏼💯
💯In agreement with you guys ! If you train using the HIT routine your getting cardio vascular benefits. Great show with two of the most highly respected , and knowledgeable athletes in the business!💪👏👏
I spent about 3 months doing cardio, and after losing a few pounds, I stagnated and tbh, just didn't feel strong. Switched to more strength training, and I feel and look better. I only do shadow boxing and skipping now. Not endless treadmill hikes.
True, endless treadmill is not the way to go, either.
Yup, and lifting weights burns calories for much longer than cardio does. And the cardio increases appetite and doesn’t burn as much as long
@@SOC-ir6im Post some vids of you actually doing something athletic besides blather away, please.
What an interview Mike! So much experience and knowledge between you two. Thank Sirs!
Stan is the best
2 of my favorites in one podcast
Sprints!
Cardiovascular work depends on what the individual wants. If you feel better doing it, do it.
Luv it! I’m & my 60s & my husband in his late 50s. We progressively lift & do no cardio.
Good information and a great interview
You need both to be at your best. Plus food is the overall key to a great body. That’s where most people screw up.
Stan, the man...I love Stan...learned a ton of Stan..
I ran to the buffet today. Does that count ?
I've been working delivery for amazon for about a year. I've cut out all cardio now.
stan is worried about cardio but he injects garbage into his body lol
Exactly you can't make this stuff up.
How do you measure the Mets??
My entire life got better when I stopped glory lifting and switched to cardio. Lifting is fun and cardio sucks. Strong men do hard things.
Why not do both?
Here's something fun ....see how long you can walk on the climb/ stepmill with 35pound weighted vest on. You'll be fcuked after 5-6 mins. That's when the fun starts. 😁
Absolutely true. When i do heavy cardio like 3-5 times a week, i get super sucked up. Legs get small, arms etc!
And i look less in shape.
Being a ex football player i feel ive done well my share of cardio
Not mention it makes my heart race
Cardio makes your heart race? You don't say... Lol
Mike is excited because he's in the top 1% that's at 8 Mets and doesn't need cardio. Great Mike, that's so great for you, you're so Awesome. Stan is a true wealth of info--Thank You.
Ya exactly 150 minutes or you will die. which talking head on youtube did you get that from lol
right on love the show
For someone who’s extremely out of shape shiould 🎉 his cardio necessary or should I just keep that out because it wasn’t mentioned in the video or should I just go right into listing
Heavy weights because I need to get back to .

Currently in my offseason. Going to try no cardio. Body fat has come up but it seams like my body, joints are less painful.
Where the interviewer talks more than the interviewee...its simple, ask question, shut up, and listen to HIS response-patiently. This is how to conduct a great interview.
As an massage therapist, i tell 100% of my clients this!
Actually if your not putting in the work, i truly do not want to work with them!
They are not to depend, but use me as a tool until they do not need!
Does no good to waste money unless they are mega millionaire and dont care, but if that's the case regardless they will improve and sustain with massage!
As a 25yr old joining the military makes me want to choose the crossfit route to b professional at. Cardio is a must!
When I was in I would tell my guys they should train like a triathlete. Must be able to lift a lot, run a lot, and walk long distances with a heavy load. Just lifting won’t get you all that. Best way to look at it is by seeing all these bodybuilders dropping dead. When do you see triathletes, cross fitters, or anyone else that does high amounts of cardio just drop dead
Yes take advice from men who won't be around in 10 years. Balance in all aspects of life is essential
I love it!!more interview more knowledge,
Thanks
It has a lot to do with the individuals DNA. This is why it’s important to understand one’s individual genetics to reach one’s best health, fitness and athletic performance.
It’s always going to be a debate because things like cardio all work differently for everyone. However, when you understand yourDNA - you will have a much better understanding as to what is best
Awesome ! I’ve always agreed on that and the so called “expert cardio coaches”used to make fun of it Thanks for enlightening us💪✨
It will always be weights and cardio (swimming and interval runs) for me since I travel extensively, and need to be fit for the activities I participate in.
Diet is the cardio ! I only run few times a week to keep my legs pumped in between the days I train them . I power wash houses decks and commercial properties every day . That's my cardio and sweat lol I am 6 3 slim build . My upper body grows over night , can only train one part a week . My legs I have do 3 times a week . If I miss a week they lose over night . Just genetics. The great Dallas macarver once said , stop using genetics as a crutch , how do you know your true genetic potential if you haven't even put in the work .❤️
Agree to disagree!!! When your on gear you can maybe afford to not do any cardio!!!!
For me,,it’s a definite!
100%all true thank you Mike
I'm 68 years old I have been doing strength training for over 50+ years lifting weights and resistance training my body fat % is never above 10% .I DO NO CARDIO and neither do my clients. I'm a certified qualified experienced personal trainer from Australia. I train 6 days a week
Is there going to be a nutrition talk with Stan?
NOT if Mike is interviewing him...he talks most of the time.
Lee Priest does(did) 2-4 hrs cardio a day
Stan the Man!
I'm 36 years old, "cardio" hits different than I was when I was 26. I don't mean that in a bad way, or a good way.

Cardio is important as far as I am concerned.
Take what you will from that.
It also helps with fat loss and recovery.
Very true. Was surprised recently to realise am getting quite aerobically fit again. Doing 30/40 mins of cardio after each session just for the endorphins, not even thinking of health. The movement definitely gets rid of that lazy, stagnant feeling. Plus, cardio helps weight training by strengthening core, knees etc - all the smaller stabilising muscles that can be missed in weight training.
Winstrol 50mg a day drink it works great 👍
I would love to see Mike O Hearn and Greg Doucette collab on this topic of cardio.
Awesome. 🏆☀️ LEGENDARY 🥇, you two🌟💪🌟💪💥‼️

Stan is a f.. N NUMBNUT 😂 😂 😂 😂
Stan hardly looks the picture of health.
In the middle of the 21st century, 2022, someone is talking about aerobic physical exercise and associating it with cardio, something that doesn't exist, only in America. High-intensity resistance exercise is the best and only way to work on cardiovascular fitness. Running 1 hour a day does nothing for cardiovascular health, nothing!
Well, I’d say cardio is more important than using illegal steroids and legal PDs and lying ur whole life to fans and family, but that’s just me.
