Like Portia, I’d also been married to a man at one time. And like them both, always knew deep down inside that I was attracted to woman and was gay, but coming from an ultra religious family, I knew that fully realizing that part of who I was would mean I’d have to hurt, disappoint, scare (my whole family is practicing Pentecostal, and believe all “gays” who act on their “gayness” are going to hell) and even be disowned by my entire family. So any encounters I’d ever had with women (and there were more than a few) were on the down, WAY DOWN, low. But When I met my wife, it was love at first sight for both of us. It was instant, crackling electricity. She was out and had been for a long time. I was in the process of the disastrous end of my marriage to a man who I’d grown up with and we’d been friends all our lives; and who I loved, and always will love; but as a friend. Even our wedding invitations said “Today I marry my best friend”. Which is easy to try and think will work in the long run. I mean, What could be better than marrying your best friend? Well if that’s all he is and none of the other stuff, MARRIAGE WILL NEVER REALLY WORK IN THE LONG RUN. Not if you want to actually be happy that is. Because, at no fault of his own, he was not someone I burned for. Because, also no fault of his own, I didn’t have orgasms with him very easily or very often (unless I closed my eyes and thought about a woman that is). I also never fantasized about him or any other man when I was by myself. I’ve always fantasized about women. I’ve always only gotten off when another woman was somehow involved. BECAUSE I HAVE ACTUALLY ALWAYS BEEN GAY. I never lusted after any man. Ever. It was always secretly woman. And it wasn’t until our marriage fell apart, looking back I realized how unfairly I had treated him. Marrying him knowing deep inside that I could never really have the same kind of love for him that he had for me. That he would always want me more than I wanted him as a lover and a spouse. Ellen and Portia’s story gave me the courage to come out; and after the divorce, I came out. Yes, I lost the contact of a lot of my family members including my parents-the last thing my father said to me before he died was the I was going to burn in Hell and that he DID NOT want me to come to his bedside to say goodbye as he lay dying with cancer; he died one week later. The only one who surprised me by being supportive was...MY EX HUSBAND. After our divorce, we still would talk on the phone occasionally. So before he could hear it from one of our friends, I called him up and told him I was gay and in love with a woman. He said “of course you are. I’ve always known that. I’m happy for you that you’ve found somebody. At least I know it wasn’t something I did. You know I’ll always have love for you Beck (he always calls me that. Only one who does). Do your parents know? What did they say?” 😮 like I said, we’d been friends a long time and he knew me well and had always loved and accepted me for who I was; even when I wasn’t ready to know or love myself for who I was. But it was Portia and Ellen who gave me the courage to tell my future wife that I thought she was extraordinary and beautiful, and yes, I was attracted to her. And yes I would love to go to dinner with her. And YES I AM A GAY WOMAN!!! My wife and I have now been married for 4 years, together for 9. Our life is a lovely dream I never have to wake up from. Cannot tell you how freeing it is, how much of a better person I am, how much nicer I am to be around, living my truth and getting to wake up every day next to the person I love completely, in all ways, and with everything I am. So to Ellen and Portia I say thank you. Your love for each other and your courage in letting the world know who you are has touched people’s lives in ways you can’t even imagine or know. I believe in God and honestly felt more love in that interview than I ever did in a church where I once went. It is not for me to judge you but to say that my heart aches for a love as genuine as theirs. At least they are genuine and I find that refreshing and I adore them.

Yesterday I attended the Gay Pride in Amsterdam for the first time. I grew up with the values of my parents who lived through the second world war to respect and love every kind of person. No matter what colour, religion or sexual preferences. I love that so much and even though I have had gay friends all my life I was again in tears when I saw a boat with people older than 60. And I am so sad that still up to today people are judged by whatever reason which is not ours to be judgemental about. I love this and I feel like this is kind of how me and my girlfriend are. I'm kind of a mixture of Ellen and Potia, as I love being around my girlfriend she is such a joy and is a little more like her own self and acts like none of them. Yesterday I attended the Gay Pride in Amsterdam for the first time. I grew up with the values of my parents who lived through the second world war to respect and love every kind of person. No matter what colour, religion or sexual preferences. I love that so much and even though I have had gay friends all my life I was again in tears when I saw a boat with people older than 60. And I am so sad that still up to today people are judged by whatever reason which is not ours to be judgemental about. I love all differences and I saw so much love yesterday that it made me feel so happy! Do things in a way you would like them to happen to you ❤️. Ellen is so funny by the way 😂. And they make a lovely couple.
