Gerard shot only for 1 week of the principle photography. He had to go back coz his visa time was over. He was there for 6 months in Mumbai, but they didn't shoot much in that 6 months coz they were just doing workshops and test shoots. Satya was shot for 2 yrs Source: rgv said in an interview

2-3 genres actually - gangster and horror with romance sprinkled in. Definitely more versatile than the likes of Karan Johar but I have seen more versatile filmmakers.
RGV was way ahead of his time when he made the Telugu movie SHIVA(1989). Raw Action and Raw Emotion was never seen before in Mainstream Commercial Telugu Cinema. GAAYAM (1993)was another movie which was very raw in its treatment. SATYA was the third installment of the Ganster Cinematic Universe of RGV.

Shiva, Rangeela, Satya, Company, Bhoot, Sarkar and many movies that RGV produced like Kaun, D, Darna Mana Hai etc...brand RGV is an emotion...I remember going to drop my pictures at his office at Versova hoping to get a call for an audition...he was every newcomers hope for casting them..the office was packed with boys & girls wanting a break in movies..that was RGV..someone who gave hope to outsiders because he made a movie like Satya where the most powerful role of Bhiku Mhatre was given to Manoj Bajpayee instead of an established actor and Thank God for that...I still feel RGV will get his groove back and make more outstanding films very soon..at least I sincerely hope so😃👍👌👏🙌🤞
My tears for Satya are as much as they are for the people whom he killed… Is the same metaphor of “An eye for an eye…”… Ramu showed Gandhian way in the most brutal way conceivable.. Genius… An outsider changed the course of the entire film Industry.. Rebel without a pause and a cause!!!!!

Can you believe it that the perceived hero of the movie is dead just around intermission, when all the villains are still alive. Yes hero’s used to die in movies earlier but towards the end, not bang in the middle. What a movie, what a director.

I watched Satya in December 2023 for the first time and was completely blown away by the cinematography, world-building, and storytelling of the film. It felt like watching a documentary or a hollywood-level cinematic recording of a sting operation. The characters were so real and relatable that I forgot about the actors' other films and accepted them as the characters of Satya. The dramatic orchestral music only heightened the appeal of the unfolding storyline. It was hard to believe that such a feat could be achieved in 1998. This movie is one of the finest masterpieces of Bollywood. It should be studied and taught in film schools. Hats off to its creators, cast, and crew members. And thanks a million to everyone involved in the making of this anniversary video! 💗🥰
The irony is that the lead pair is not there which shows that RGV's movies were much more than that which was not the case in bollywood back then. He gave so much emphasis on various characters and the actors playing those characters have become legends now

No. It would tarnish its great reputation. Chashmebaddoor, Gadar 1 and some other classics were re released too and were removed after two days. Its a bad idea. Film theatres dont work on emotions. It costs money.

One scene that I found the best out of satya was , when bhau was killed amidst ganpati visarjan . The allegory that they drew at that moment was something that I had got shaken by , also the moment when bhau's body floats and everything around him drowns into the silence of post destruction. Samandar gulps whatever comes its way , mightiest of mighties are fringe before this mighty Samandar.
People might troll ramgopal Varma today. But he changed Indian cinema forever. His assistants went to all parts of country and replicated the same. He is the GOAT ! Still remember the goosebumps I got while watching Satya and company.

Satya is like a mystical character. We don't know who he is where he came from, no commentary given on his appearance, it just starts off a new person visits Bombay the city of dreams with no dreams. And best part is everyone else in the movie is also clueless about him like the audience - "Hai kya hai yeh Satya". RGV you are a cult of personality to create this cult classic. What he did here was simply magic.

I watch lot of talk shows in realm of film making. This specific one is by far the best one i cherished listening to Satya. Presence of Ramu made my day. Heard him in a talk show for the first time. Love from Canada.
The pivotal moment in Hindi cinema is this masterpiece. It was a rare moment when it stood head and shoulders with World Cinema. Phenomenal actors, writers and a phenomenal director. The success of a film is the impact it creates and how even after so many years, people remember it. 'Satya' went one step further in which it even influenced pop culture. Just imagine the references that people still use from this film.
It would be worth to make a 'Making of Satya' documentary, with the whole cast and crew. Please take your time, script it out, and insert the 'happy incidents' and surprise yourselves.
I remember watching this movie in Borivali West the week it came out. Actually i had gone to watch one of those Pyaar movies being talked about but didnt get ticket.😂 I have never seen, before or after, the connect a movie has with audience. People laughing at Chander's joke ( Poora Mumbai lafde mein blast ho gaya aur Satya ekdam fast ho gaya!), Manoj Vajapayees acting, Bhaudas Jhawle you name. After watching the movie i remember walking back home ro Kandivali. No auto no nothing. Just walking away with memories. What a movie!!

I have watched this movie countless times since I first watched it when it released during my college days. No other gangster movie has come close. Every single character was perfect. No other movie had such a perfect casting.
I was an infant when Satya rlsd, Watched it only few yrs ago but the film didnt lose anything to age!! It's still impactful and never felt like outdated!! I cant say that for any other film rlsd way back in the 90s
One thing I like about Satya and Ramu's Filmmaking is that even in a violent movie he gels the romance so deeply , whic is absent in Anurag Kashyaps or any other Gangster Movies Directors Films
RGV's to the point and funny story telling really got me!! Especially the ones about "Kya Ramu! Paresh ko maar daala?" and the one about Salman Khan's Bandhan😂😂

I watched Satya in December 2023 for the first time and was completely blown away by the cinematography, world-building, and storytelling of the film. It felt like watching a documentary or a hollywood-level cinematic recording of a sting operation. The characters were so real and relatable that I forgot about the actors' other films and accepted them as the characters of Satya. The dramatic orchestral music only heightened the appeal of the unfolding storyline. It was hard to believe that such a feat could be achieved in 1998. This movie is one of the finest masterpieces of Bollywood. It should be studied and taught in film schools. Hats off to its creators, cast, and crew members. And thanks a million to everyone involved in the making of this anniversary video! 💗🥰

The irony is that the lead pair is not there which shows that RGV's movies were much more than that which was not the case in bollywood back then. He gave so much emphasis on various characters and the actors playing those characters have become legends now

No. It would tarnish its great reputation. Chashmebaddoor, Gadar 1 and some other classics were re released too and were removed after two days. Its a bad idea. Film theatres dont work on emotions. It costs money.

One scene that I found the best out of satya was , when bhau was killed amidst ganpati visarjan . The allegory that they drew at that moment was something that I had got shaken by , also the moment when bhau's body floats and everything around him drowns into the silence of post destruction. Samandar gulps whatever comes its way , mightiest of mighties are fringe before this mighty Samandar.
And at the beginning of that scene you hear ganesh Aarti in the background
People might troll ramgopal Varma today. But he changed Indian cinema forever. His assistants went to all parts of country and replicated the same. He is the GOAT ! Still remember the goosebumps I got while watching Satya and company.
Say what you want about RGV losing his sheen, this interview proves that even now he is streets ahead of other directors in the way he looks at films. He’s not just a consummate director, he’s a colossus of talent. Hope he makes a comeback. He’s due.

One of those interviews where you don’t realize that you were watching this for an hour. I got emotional at many places and I wasn’t even part of this film. I want to give credit to Film Companion who at least give credit to such incredible films.
Satya is like a mystical character. We don't know who he is where he came from, no commentary given on his appearance, it just starts off a new person visits Bombay the city of dreams with no dreams. And best part is everyone else in the movie is also clueless about him like the audience - "Hai kya hai yeh Satya". RGV you are a cult of personality to create this cult classic. What he did here was simply magic.
No matter what he is doing now RGV always my one of all time favorites. The man who brought real cinema in bollywood at that time.

The success of a film is the impact it creates and how even after so many years, people remember it. 'Satya' went one step further in which it even influenced pop culture. Just imagine the references that people still use from this film.
It would be worth to make a 'Making of Satya' documentary, with the whole cast and crew.

I have watched this movie countless times since I first watched it when it released during my college days. No other gangster movie has come close. Every single character was perfect. No other movie had such a perfect casting.
I was an infant when Satya rlsd, Watched it only few yrs ago but the film didnt lose anything to age!! It's still impactful and never felt like outdated!! I cant say that for any other film rlsd way back in the 90s
One thing I like about Satya and Ramu's Filmmaking is that even in a violent movie he gels the romance so deeply , whic is absent in Anurag Kashyaps or any other Gangster Movies Directors Films
