    I appreciate seeing others practicing with their dog. When a trainer is the sole demonstrator, it seems so easy. When others do the practice I can see how one adjusts one’s training behaviour to get the desired behaviour. Having the trainer (Nate) do the demonstration when another person is having difficulty makes it even more clear! Thanks for this Nate.

      Watch Tom Davis on TH-cam. It will help if you are willing to put in the work and time with your dog. It has helped my dog greatly with her leash reactivity.

      Check out Joel Beckman's Rottweiler named Creed video for the foundation video for loose leash walking and reactivity. He also has little dog videos if you don't have a 190lb Rottie. I know my dog was just attacked by 3 dogs. Hope that helps.

    Question: why do you want them to come back immediately to the heel position rather than a front? Isn't this going to be an issue when competing in obedience? I usually only practice a finish separate from a recall, so you don't get a dog going directly back to the heel position. Please advise.

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it could potentially cause that issue. I usually use it only during send-outs to go through multiple reps quickly. However, if I notice the issue starting to arise, I adjust the training to prevent it from worsening. To prevent this issue, I like to use the 'around' command (th-cam.com/video/xVeiar6fOu0/w-d-xo.html) during recall, which I'll be doing with these dog trainers in a week or so. Thank you for asking such a great question!

    Another great session. I appreciated James' question re using 'search' for the send out as I had the same question. I understand it doesn't matter what you name behaviors as long as you are consistent but, in my understanding, using the same word for two different behaviors could cause confusion. The "search" in a classical setting where the dog has to go out and find something not visible to them would allow them to range as necessary to obtain a scent. The send out, in this case, has a visible target we are asking them to focus on and run directly to. So I, personally, would select the 'run' command and keep the 'search' for when they actually have to search to find something that is not visible. Is this exercise we see in this session basically a prelude to teaching search and, therefore, that is why using the 'search' command in this exercise is ok?

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yes, the command doesn't matter, since our dogs don't know the dictionary definition. They know what the words mean to them based on what they predict. :) So as long as we are consistent on what each word predicts, then we shouldn't have any issues. Cheers!

    Nella mia città non ci sono persone capaci e talentuose come te Nate 🙄. Però i tuoi video mi danno una mano col mio cane❤. Potresti spiegare come aumentare la motivazione del mio cane?

    Question? When off leash my 26 month pit/cur mix loses focus when in a command because he wants to mark. It's like he is saying " hold on a minute". I've never used a long line and my E collar broke. Suggestions on stopping that?

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't let dogs leave the heel position to mark or go potty. I treat it like any other stay command. However, if I notice a dog needs to go potty while on a walk, I'll stop and tell the dog to go potty, but I don't let them go without permission. :)
