      there are really great, sometimes a little tone changing is needed, but fit and finish are really good value compared to the bigger brand option :)

      @@Grindstaff09 you know how some guitars are really good, but you don’t quite bond with it? I think with this one it was the neck profile. Just not quite right for me.

    Strongly consdering your Alnico Tron for neck and regular 'tron for bridge in my Harley Benton 35.

    • @PorterPickups
      @PorterPickups  ปีที่แล้ว

      that would be a nice option for sure, something to clean it up and make it more usable and versatile

    I wound a custom set of pickups they are p94 style single coils. the neck pickup is an alnico 2 wound to 7.3k and the bridge is an alnico 5 wound to 7.6k the 2 in the neck is nice and clear almost bell like which I appreciate so much coming from muddy crap. The bridge is nice but I might swap the bar out to something which will add a little more bass or mud because it's still a little more tinny than I'd like it. I thought the 5 would be enough but apparently not! I have an ibanez asv73

      what wire gauge are you using? try 43AWG in the bridge for some extra crunch!

    I just bought a like new used 2020 Eastman T335 with Suhr Thornbucker pickups installed by the prior owner. The guitar is generally great in my opinion. The pick ups sound good to me, but I don't have enough experience yet with these hollow body guitars, or pickups in general, to judge. I'll use this guitar for blues, jazz, and clean rock type stuff. Mild to medium drive sometimes, but mostly very clean tone with a bit of reverb and delay. I'm looking for a very traditional sound. Should I be considering a pick up swap? Where do these Thornbuckers fit in the range of options available.

      one thing with semi hollows is they can be very sensitive to hotter pickups, and they can respond in a boomy way to many of them. Thats why we put our WRH in there to help get a cleaner reference to balance the low end from the guitar. Otherwise, you're enhancing the mud if that makes sense. Suhr makes great stuff, but it might come down to the right flavor you need.

    ppl are missing the boat on these things. I have a few of them and replaced pups and they're true rock machines done right. they're not called the burst killer for nothing. one of my favorite tones is a semi driven semi hollow. ooph, it don't get any better for me.

    • @PorterPickups
      @PorterPickups  ปีที่แล้ว

      agreed! they are great value for the money especially with the state of current guitar pricing.

    One question. Epi 339 planning to put Mojotone Johnny Winter Signatures in them. Do I have to take out and replace pots and etc.. ?

    • @PorterPickups
      @PorterPickups  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ideally you will need to take the pots out, tying strings to them to more efficiently put them back in place. They usually need to come out in a certain order depending on how the company wired them. Some people will splice the wires under the pickups to make it easier, but it’s not always the best solution unless you are able to secure the connections well with good soldering and shrink wrapping the connections.

    • @PorterPickups

      it may sound better than you have currently, but it depends on how your guitar responds to them. Who chose our wide ranges for this one to clean up the muddy tones of the semi hollow since many need that done

      If you want a true sounding PAF that’s not an actual PAF try Sheptone Blueskys. They’re modelled after 50s PAFs but a bit hotter in my opinion
