Tyler's "SLOW DOWN, DOCTOR JONES!" I died. Hell, I loved all the Indy references. When you two get together for one of these videos, we know it's going to be fun. You guys are awesome
Thanks SO much for making this! We live in San Diego so it's a huge frickin drive away...we've seen it passing by on the way to Vegas, but never stopped...always wondered what it was like..
As a young child, I used to live at Calico Trailer Park in Yermo. My aunt worked as Calamity Jane at Calico and we could go there whenever we wanted. I always loved the tram ride up from the parking lot and the train ride. Then there was the mine, the house of bottles, and the re-enactments. Lots of memories here.
I've actually been there. My family stopped by on our way back from Las Vegas. Since I was little at the time, it gave me the willies but I still enjoyed the history behind it. My brother went down into the mines but I was too scared to go in with him. I always wondered what it looked like inside. Thanks for showing me! This video brought back some nice memories :) I still have the postcards!
Y'all ( justin & tyler) are Such a Riot !!! SO FUNNY !!! i wish i could have Y'all for my very own ( LOL 😄) ~ TO ALWAYS MAKE ME LAUGH !!! Keep Up The EXCELLENT work !!!
My mom and I stopped at Calico when we were heading home to Las Vegas from Disneyland last May on a Saturday. I enjoyed the train ride but that was the highlight of it. Everything else was either closed or broken except for a few shops. If you ever come to Las Vegas we have a great ghost town called Bonnie Springs. It is the best ghost town I've ever been to.
My Mom and I visited Calico in the late 60's. It was mostly piles of lumber and "melted" adobe. The Maggie Mine was partially opened.... think it was like 20 feet. I remember Mom saying "We drove all this way off of the interstate for this dump?" We did have some boysenberry drinks (A Knott's specialty) and a couple of postcards. It is what it is......but pretending it's a preserved historic spot? Um, not so much.
If that schoolhouse is haunted its not by any of the original residents. That schoolhouse was rebuilt in the 50's. Great video. I was just there the other day, it would have been fun if you guys were there then. lol
Went to Calico in late March 2017 on my way back to LA from Vegas, We were only meant to be there for an hour but we spent a "Calico hour" there which equates to around 3 and a bit hours normal time. Loved the restaurant place there can't remember what it was called but loved taking a trip down memory lane being able to eat peanuts and just randomly chuck the shells on the floor.
It was very hot, the day I visited Calico, and I didn't cover as much ground as you guys. I did take a lot of pictures, and had a cold drink at some place up near the schoolhouse. Nice video, and good memories.
When my dad took us up there in 1960, there was an old cowboy security guard and that was it. None of the buildings were complete and where the school is located was just bare ground. When I went back in the 1970s, they had buildings and paved streets! :)
My family and I visited Calico in '95 on a drive from Vegas to Disneyland. We even have a picture of my brothers and I in the chinese bath tub. I remember it being a lot less tourist driven and much more abandoned and falling apart, the schoolhouse was brown, not white and the bridge was a broken rope bridge with wooden slats.
When I was a kid my parents took me camping there at Calico a lot. Nowadays I take my kids camping there maybe 2 or 3 times a year. We especially love to explore the old silver mines that hav ent been boarded up. Most of them have been closed off as being to unsafe. Some are still open to walk through. Just bring a flashlight, and if it's summertime watch out for rattlesnakes.
I went to Calico in 1966 when I was 7 yrs. old. I thought it was pretty cool. BTW . . . Knott's Berry Farm sucked back then. It was basically an actual berry farm. They had a Stage Coach ride and a mibe car ride, but that's it.
A couple stories you might find amusing from my family. My grandfather was often reminded of the time (before I was around) that he told Walter Knott that he would never eat another chicken dinner there when the price jumped to the ridiculous price of seventy-five cents. For many years Walter and Cordelia live on the farm but later moved to a house in La Habra heights not far from my grandparents home. My grandparents had a little garden in their backyard and Walter came and helped my grandfather build trellises and plant boysenberries.
LMAO. when your skinny friend tries to help your tubby ass up a hill "think goat Tyler, think goat!". "I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEEEAANS!" That made my night! Lol
Great video. Glory hole. oh my goodness. The Mine looked really neat. Wow I didn't know that you could see a old west shootout any more that freaking AWESOME
Justin i enjoy all your videos dude. I live in Riverside Ca and have a disneyland annual pass. I go often. Hope to meet you one day man. Keep up with the videos. Good work
This really is Knott's Berry Farm ghost town.. I've done the OC to Vegas drive a bilion times and never stopped to check out Calico.. I think I will next time. Great video Justin. The miner and donkey towards the end of your video is very similar to the one they have standing at La Palma and Beach Blvd at Knott's. Fun video. Thanks for the post.
Fun and informative video. I never knew about that place. One time my friends and I drove around the desert looking for ghost towns... didn't find any. LOL. We went to some tiny towns but they were still "alive." Now we know where to go next time! :-)
Calico, Randsburgh, Oatman, they're all semi-"alive" but if you want to see something epic go to Bodie up by Mono lake! It's incredible. My favorite. :D
I went to calico with my wife a few years ago during the civil war reenactment days, and that was very cool! You should go back then. They also have an old time barber who wears period appropriate clothing and will give you a straight edge razor shave for 2 bits plus inflation!
Used to be a cool Funicular ride from the parking lot to the main entrance. Great ATV riding trails for miles up to locations where the townspeople had parties hayrides and picnics. Still there. Some of the buildings were moved to Knotts Berry Farm in the 40's and 50's.
Judging from maps, the Virginia and Truckee Railroad Company may have intended to run the Carson and Colorado within stagecoach range of Calico, but the C & C only got as far as Keeler, Inyo County, about 120 airline miles away.
OMG thank you for posting this video. It's, so funny to watch and yes I did subscribed you. Also I was surprised that you have to pay the train and also the Maggie Mine trail too, but still I can't wait to go there. It will be my first time there. Also what time do they start the gun fight show? I'm guessing high noon, but still? Do they do it everyday for the gun fight show?
LiveFastDiePoor When I was a kid, there was a box in the road that was labelled "baby rattlers". When you looked in the box it was full of baby rattles;)
Being a history Buff, and for me Calico is local history, seeing as how I have lived all my life in So.Cal. I expected to hate this video and to write a hate comment on the lvl of Trolling.. I was Wrong GREAT JOB !!! You hit on Most of the interesting facts, and kept it lite and fun for all to Enjoy...You missed a lot, but I realize a long video is not good for youtube.. Im an old guy ( 59 ) I remember going to Calico when several of the buildings were still standing..But then I remember when Knotts Berry Farm was free to get into and there was only 3-4 rides and 90% of it was just like Calico is today.. Again. GREAT JOB kid....Keep it up...
I agree! Ive lived in So Cal my whole life as well and have been to Calico several times. There was a couple times in the video I was wondering where they were because I don't remember that area of Calico.
In the Big Log music video it shows the same church at around 3:25 but in unrestored condition? Kind of interesting to know that Robert plants music video was fimed at that exact church and that he walked around in it.
:D But you have the Scottish Highlands, Stonehenge, Watership Down, The Giant's Causeway, and Rendlesham forest! I hope to get back to the UK sometime!
I think this is the very first video I saw of yours back in 2014. Thanks for all the fun times you've brought us through your videos.
you remind me of a history version of Bill Nye the science guy, I love it!
As a young child, I used to live at Calico Trailer Park in Yermo. My aunt worked as Calamity Jane at Calico and we could go there whenever we wanted. Use to go here as a kid when we lived at George AFB in Victorville. Thanks for the video and bringing back great memories.
I've never been there, but after watching this video, it's definitely a place I want to check out. Thanks for posting this video!

Justin I had always heard Walter Knott had some of the Calico buildings moved to Knotts berry farm.
well done! more fun than a substitute 5th grade teacher. What two-some! I was out of breath doing those hills. Thanks fellas, silky.

Actually, Knott's Ghost Town is based of the Calico Ghost Town. I know this because one of the rides there is called the Calico Mining Company
very informative and entertaining...good job guys
If that schoolhouse is haunted its not by any of the original residents. That schoolhouse was rebuilt in the 50's. Great video. I was just there the other day, it would have been fun if you guys were there then. lol
awesome video! i miss that place too much. you guys did a great job showing this place and all...thumbs up!
I remember going her a couple times when I was a kid. Everything seemed so huge back then.

Great video. Glory hole. oh my goodness. The Mine looked really neat. Wow I didn't know that you could see a old west shootout any more that freaking AWESOME
It's pretty corny but it's part of the experience :D
Justin i enjoy all your videos dude. I live in Riverside Ca and have a disneyland annual pass. I go often. Hope to meet you one day man. Keep up with the videos. Good work

this guy could do a video detailing how much my life sucks and I'd probably still watch it.
I just got my knowledge on. Thanks Justin !
Woot!
Fun and informative video. I never knew about that place. One time my friends and I drove around the desert looking for ghost towns... didn't find any. LOL. We went to some tiny towns but they were still "alive." Now we know where to go next time! :-)

I was there in 1972, good memories

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
I visited Knott's Berry Farm in 1968 and heard of Calico there (but we never went to visit it).
I remember going there a couple of years ago. I lived just a couple minutes away (Fort Irwin)
still can't get over that outro.... #grapefruit
Here I thought Calico was just a cat haha. Loved the video! You really help me get through the day. :) You guys "rock"
Glad to help Tim! Thanks man!
You're welcome good sir. You keep filming and I keep on watchin'.
I was there too!! 4 years ago!
I went to calico with my wife a few years ago during the civil war reenactment days, and that was very cool! You should go back then. They also have an old time barber who wears period appropriate clothing and will give you a straight edge razor shave for 2 bits plus inflation!
"Think 'goat', Tyler!"
"I don't know what that means!!!!"
Seems like a cool place to visit! Great video :)
DONT GO
Why
ITS REALLY BAD
Madeline Twitchell I live in near Calico Ghost Town. It's ok. Not the greatest tho but, still ok.
ya true but still
Awesome vid!
Used to be a cool Funicular ride from the parking lot to the main entrance.
Great ATV riding trails for miles up to locations where the townspeople had parties hayrides and picnics.
Still there.
Some of the buildings were moved to Knotts Berry Farm in the 40's and 50's.
We're going here for a field trip on November 2nd ✨I just watch this video to see what it was like
Judging from maps, the Virginia and Truckee Railroad Company may have intended to run the Carson and Colorado within stagecoach range of Calico, but the C & C only got as far as Keeler, Inyo County, about 120 airline miles away.
Well that explains alot, I mean alot about why Knott's Berry Farm has most of the park named calico.
OMG thank you for posting this video. It's, so funny to watch and yes I did subscribed you. Also I was surprised that you have to pay the train and also the Maggie Mine trail too, but still I can't wait to go there. It will be my first time there. "I don't know how to feel about this." "That was unpleasant." Made me laugh like an idiot. That was fantastic.
i went here when i was really little, and i remember crossing that bridge and thinking it was soooo high haha
Still feels high to me!
Great Vid. I haven't been there since I was a kid. I was hoping to see the box of baby rattlers though.
Alas, after conducting a thorough search, I could find no more live snakes at Calico. Well, at least not in any boxes, just out on the road!
LiveFastDiePoor
When I was a kid, there was a box in the road that was labelled "baby rattlers". When you looked in the box it was full of baby rattles;)
really nice bridges ,, lol,, great video

If only all the random land videos were all on dvd.
YES! YES AND MORE YES!!!…….let's throw in a "maybe" just for fun.
"Lets get some Chipotle" hahahaha!
And we did. And it was awesome.
When you were talking about the restrooms I thought you were gonna go on he whole big thunder mountain railroad thingy!!
Reminds a little of Old Tucson as well.
Is the attraction with the crooked rooms and optical illusions still there?
My name is Tyler as well. So anytime you say things like "What do you think, Tyler?" it really feels like you're talking to me. WEIRD!
Hahaha that's awesome
I always have that same feeling...
Hey! I live right next to that. Just wanted to state that. Carry on.
That's awesome man! In Yermo?
In the Big Log music video it shows the same church at around 3:25 but in unrestored condition? Kind of interesting to know that Robert plants music video was fimed at that exact church and that he walked around in it.
Lol that moment a Disney world ad comes on
