THANK YOU!! The latch of my 2016 just broke (had a good run tho - 6.5 years). And before I dragged it into the dealer and paid thru the nose, I googled. And here you were!! It's a fixed, your directions were perfect! Appreciate you taking the time to help a gal out!
I have watched about six videos on this broken latch. Yours was THE BEST! Thank you for taking the time to help us all. I bought my part on Amazon for $8.99. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for posting this video! My 2016 1/2 CX-5’s console broke and your video saved the day! Including the exact part needed and the easy to follow directions saved me from having to go to the Mazda dealer. So appreciate your video!!
This just happened to me and I'm so glad I saw this video since they were going to charge me $120 to fix this. Found the part on amazon for $9, so definitely doing myself. Thanks!
Bro, thank you so much for this video! My son accidentally broke mine and I was pissed! Lol. That was until I found this video. Ordered the part from Amazon, and just finished putting it in. Thx again!
I ordered the replacement from Amazon a few weeks ago but was too lazy to replace the broken latch. So I just lived with the console in the open position the last couple weeks. Decided to finally give it a go now and it was easy! Watched your whole video first, grabbed my screwdriver, went to my car, and easily fixed it. Thank you!
Excellent! This "Flaw" just occurred yesterday morning. Found this video yesterday after lunch and ordered new piece overnight from Amazon. On day 2 I was an armrest expert by dinner time. Thanks.
Bought our used 2016 Mazda CX-5 in summer of 2018. The arm rest was broken when we bought the car and the arm rest in all other CX-5's that we looked at were broken, too! Talk about a major design flaw. I've been using Velcro since we bought the car, but now even it isn't working. THANK YOU for the tutorial!!!
It's the one bad thing about the car, I catch myself in a hurry sometimes and I'll pull up on the armrest before fully unlocking the latch and sometimes will hear a click but so far it has survived! Glad this video has helped many, I still own the vehicle today, Mazda has come a long way, I'll never touch another Honda.
Amazing video! Thanks so much. I bragged to my wife about how I was able to fix the latch by myself (with your help... But that will be our little secret)
I just replace mine after watching your video. Thank you so much for posting this video. It was very easy to do. Mazda didn't have to design it this way. The armrest did not have to be sprung open once you open it. They could have just built it without springs to hold it open. This way if the latch breaks and you close it, it will stay closed. But no, they had to over engineer it.
This is THE BEST VIDEO.... I did not know the part number neither the process... It took me 45s to change it thanks to the video... (and 4 days for Amazon to deliver the piece) :)
Really useful video. Our Grandson broke ours, but he does tend to test things to destruction. In the UK the part is harder to get, and a little more expensive, but your video at least makes fixing it very easy.
Thank you- this video makes it so simple! I actually glued a piece of plastic on to simulate the broken piece and it worked for about a year. It just broke, so I’m pumped to find your video.
Thank you for the information. I was thinking of a more permanent solution, because I could definitely see that clip breaking every two years or so, terrible engineering design on the part of Mazda! Here's what I did and it worked perfectly. I ended up popping the back panel to access the spring that holds the arm rest up. I disengaged one side of the spring relieving half the pressure, that was enough for the arm rest to remain in the down position.
I was thinking of doing the same thing too as I could see the latch breaking again for me if I tried to fix it. Can you describe how you popped the back panel off? Or have you seen a video about it?
thank you so much, just replaced this piece on my moms cx-5. just a warning for those doing this, not sure if all the pins holding the latch and springs are as annoying as mine was, but i had to heat up the left side of the pin with a hair dryer for a couple minutes and then use some pliers to pull it gently without breaking the grooves off the flat side. hopefully this helps!
That trick with the hairdryer worked a treat. I was struggling with that pin for 30 minutes or so. Took me 2 minutes after I used the hair dryer. Thanks.
Super glue only lasted a few days so had to buy the part. $6 on Amazon. Only had trouble removing the pin. Mine was in extremely tight. I used the flat end of a star bit to push it though.
thanks! i know there are a few videos out there already but sometimes i watch them all to see a certain angle of a piece , or part number, etc. glad i could help!
Thank you! I have passed 40k miles and mine broke. I looked at the latch, it seems very cheap and weak. If it was metal it would last much longer. I am off to order this part now. Or even 2 of them.
it has to, remember the non pointed end has cross hatch markings making it "grab" the plastic, it's difficult to press, it left a dent on my fingers :)

Thanks for the video. My latch broke yesterday. Picked the part up at Mazda for under $7. You saved me a lot of aggravation.

Perfect camera angle. Watched 10 videos and this one was the best 🎉
Thanks man! I made this on a whim sitting in my car in the dealership parking lot :)
Awesome video! I'm 62 years old and fixed mine; no problem. Ordered the part from Amazon. Thanks!!

i've been using an empty water bottle wedged between the seat and the console lid for about a year now LMAO. THANKS!
Wife's car console has had the open door policy
Best video out there to get the job done. Worked 100%
This did precisely the trick for me on my 2016 CX-5. Good vid!

This just saved me time and money! It worked also! If I can do this anyone can! LOL

For anyone who wants to buy this cheap, I got it from china with $1.8 + shipping. It takes a bit longer but i got a few spares now :). Great video
Extremely helpful instructions. Thank you!
Best video on how to replace by far👌👌👌👌 now I'll be able to replace mine as well.

Thanks for the great video. I can do this!
Thanks, that helped me, big time.
I just can't seem to push the pin through! Yes I'm pushing on the correct side. Any ideas?
make sure it's straight, maybe use a pair of pliers, make sure you're pushing it into the correct side, and using the correct end of the pin.
@@morejelloplease ended up having to use a pair of needle nose pliers to slide it out.
Thank you
Fuck man I was like damn can’t believe I already broke a part on my newish car lll
well done. no b.s. just the facts, Jack. 5 stars for u. thanks
Had to use pliers to really get the pin in and out of the spring, other than that easy as pie
Anyone know if this will work for the 16’ mazda 3…. ? Looks the same
not sure, see if you can cross reference the part #
Thanks bro
What kind of Mazda is your car? This just happened to my 2016 cx5.
2016 CX-5 it's notorious for breaking the latch, other than that, great vehicle!
@@morejelloplease Thanks for the reply & for sharing your video. 🙂
@@aliMS137 no problem, good luck! :)
did you fix it?
@@morejelloplease Not yet. The part is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Looks pretty easy to fix…we’ll see.

I can’t get the bar out. Anyone else have this problem?
You might need to take a nail and hammer and gently tap it out, make sure you're pushing it out in the right direction.
Do you still have the Mazda
hell yeah! it' quicker than the new ones too lol
My girlfriend Alyza will drive my CX-5 2016 she since I have a 2019 Honda Ridgeline black edition with rear heated seats my cx-5 is a grand touring.

My stupid pin won’t come out! About to toss the whole things in the trash! 😭
it has to, remember the non pointed end has cross hatch markings making it "grab" the plastic, it's difficult to press, it left a dent on my fingers :)
