    T-28's are amazing, maneuverable and keep the pilot safer than most any other plane. The was my first trainer plane, out of NAS Corpus Christi in the 80's. She looks great! Thanks for sharing and good luck with the sale.

      Thanks Larry, wish we could get you back up in the plane for at least an hour, how cool would that be?

      They did fly well, except that, well, "Maneuverable"? With 7 degrees of wing dihedral, they had no roll rate at all. Pulling almost 20 degrees nose-up and giving it everything we could, an aileron roll still finished 10 degrees nose-down, though on altitude. I flew B's and C's instructing at Whiting Field and with 1425 HP, they could give an angle of climb like nothing you've ever seen! From there, the jet students in those days went to TA-4s, with a 720 degree-per-second maximum roll rate. Quite a change! With a jet we had to wear all that jet-pilot personal flight equipment, but it sure was fun! And that stage of training we got guns, rockets, bombs, and fighter tactics, some of which apparently didn't fit in the video frames because I haven't seen them in movies. Thanks for letting me reminisce.

      @@michaelwoods4495 It's been so long ago, I just remember it was great fun. I got really good at the PPEL's. Loved it when the instructor said "uh-oh we're losing oil presssure" and I'd set max range climb and then glide to touchdown from 10 mi away.

    Love that plane. Built many models of it. That was the trainer my brother flew before the F4 .
    Would be a awesome plane to own if you're wealthy. Loves to go fast and guzzle fuel.

    I wished I would have seen this video 3 years ago. $165,000 is a dog gone good price for that T-28. I don't care who you are. That's a dadburn good price. I do some farming down here in south Georgia and I crop dust on the side. I have been crop dusting for years with a WWI Curtis JN-6H bi-plane and shes been a good un!
    But it's time to retire the old gal. Lord only knows how many hours is on her. Right now I got her held together with that good metal duct tape and bailing wire. She rattles a lot but flys like a dream. So far!
    I need to call this Bill and see if he can get another T-28 or something very similar. And also check to see if I can convert one to a crop duster. With that extra power and speed I could spray a 100 acres faster that a one leggeg cat with a case of diarrhea!
    And with that extra seat. I might could take my wife Ethel Darlene with me. Then I don't know, bless her heart. I don't know if you could get 360 lbs in that back seat. Might could just remove all that extra weight for a bigger spray tank.
    Well buddy, thanks for that thier video. Sure wished I had of seen it in time. I've looked at a couple of Cessna Ag Wagon, a Piper PA-36 and a Rockwell Thrush Commander. And they want as much or more for them than that T-28. 😢

    • @dlkline27
      @dlkline27 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Would have to change the engine too. That 800 horsepower in the "A" would probably struggle with a three bladed prop.

  • @dlkline27
    @dlkline27 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This "A" must have received an upgrade at some point in time. I've worked on and flew in (as passenger) T-28As and they had 800 hp engines with two bladed props. The B and C versions had 1425 hp engines and three bladed props.

    • @swbeyer8349
      @swbeyer8349 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably pointing out what you already know, but the C's had a beefed up tail section and an arresting hook. The T-28c's had a shorter fatter prop so they wouldn't get torn up during carrier landings.

    During the Vietnam War the U.S supply the Royal Lao Airforce with these T28.
    The Royal Lao Airforce pilots flew these T28 to bomb Communist targets in Laos.
    On July 12, 1969 Four Royal Lao T28 was on a urgent mission to attack Communist AAA gun position.
    1 of the T28 was shoot down by the Communist that day.
    Royal Lao pilot Kham Phiou was one of the pilot that was on that mission that day in his T28.
    He told this story back in 1985 and I turn it into a little reading video with some small actual footage to pay tribute to them.
