  • Skateboarding at 44 years old... You can't do everything all at once, so I've been fighting to claim back a couple of mini-ramp tricks I haven't practiced in a while.
    And then just having fun with powerslides.

    I've noticed the thing that has made my axle stalls really easy is learning to drop back in without unhooking the back truck. Taught me to really settle into the axle stall and makes it easier to come in whenever i want.

    If this can help: Your head is the guide for the rest of your body. You should try to put your shoulders parallel to the coping and your head facing the transition. Watching it in slo mo, you leave your front arm behind and up, and it makes your head, shoulders and chest looking away from the transition. To me, the best way to warm up for axel is making it in the half way to the coping and going up a little bit until you reach the coping. I'm 54 so you are a kid 🙂

    Bro you look like you're way doing better than me picking up skateboarding as a hobby and I'm even a bit younger. I struggle a lot with even the most basic tricks because I just can't take too many slams. Even stuff like a frontside revert is so hard. Helmet and pads help a lot, but the most important thing for me is to progress reeeeealy slowly and disassemble every trick in a lot of tiny parts and progress through them to the entire trick. Skateboarding is so mental, but with our age it's also more and more physical. Still, it's such an amazing sport and worth every bruise and drop of sweat.

    • @Ungracefulmovement
      @Ungracefulmovement  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totally agree. My pads go on when I think a slam is inevitable (like learning a new trick), because I have experience as a youth breaking things. I advocate for taking a 121 lesson now and again, to overcome (or find the secret to) some tricks. Have you tried lessons?

    • @MidlifeSkateboarding
      @MidlifeSkateboarding หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Ungracefulmovement Lessons, that is a very good tip. In fact, there are courses for individual skaters as well as groups in my area. I definitely plan to take a course. It's also not too expensive and certainly money well spent. Sometimes, you just can't figure out certain movements or details necessery for a trick on your own, then you just need the help of an experienced skater who can assess you.

  • @Sure2Skate

    Bro as a 40+ skater- Rock to fakie is actually easier and less dangerous when your back truck is closer to the coping than your front truck. Get your board up on that coping! You'll have much less chance of hanging up.

    I wasn't expected the triple drop attempt man fair play for even having a go! Axel stalls are just not there for me, you are way ahead. I don't have the confidence or speed to get my back truck close to the coping which is why I rely heavily on R to Fs, FTTs and R 'n Rs 😁

    • @Ungracefulmovement
      @Ungracefulmovement  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      thinking back, I worked on kick turns for so long: pushing myself to do them higher and higher and more chill everytime. a major landmark was being able turn with front trucks higher than the coping, then slashing. then Andy said one day, the height of my kickturn, I may as well be going for axles.
      I know you took a confidence knock on that drop-in bail but you can easily get them.
