I use concrete blocks it was easy with a plywood cut to size. I used a shade proof curtain to cover. You can use a waterproof table cloth. Storage underneath. Sweet and cheap. It's next to my bed. Easy cleaning😁💙🐟🐠💛💙🐟💛🐠
What perfect timing! Literally couldn’t have posted this video at a more fortuitous time. I’ve been wanting to build a 125 gallon stand after likewise getting sticker shock and not trusting the cheap particle board tanks. Thank you!
Great video! Tank stand costs are crazy, especially considering most are made from sawdust particles that will deteriorate over time. I love DIY videos for our hobby and once again, thank you! Now, if I only had room for a 150-gallon tank! (lol)
I built an almost identical stand although I didn't enclose the bottom. I did put 3/4" plywood for both the bottom shelf and the top. My big difference - and I'm sure this it totally paranoid overkill - I did not nail down the top plywood I just glued it to the crossbraces. I was nervous that if a nail or screw in the top ever got wet an rusted that it might expand into the bottom of my tank. Great work - great video! Happy New Year!
I love DIY videos! What I did is buy a used cheap solid wood stands that aren’t water damaged and either paint it or sand it down and stain it again. I prefer real solid wood over compressed sawdust!
I got the notorious petsmart 125 gallon stand that came with the tank, it’s a particle board stand. It’s done great so far but I’m starting to see signs of it being older and getting damp. So this is on my bucket list. The stand isn’t bad either it’s extremely minor but I can see it if I look very hard.
The biggest deterrent to me getting more tanks is the price of stands. I keep thinking about trying to build one myself so this video was very helpful. Thank you and Happy New Year!
Amazing video! I wish i would have seen this video over the summer! I now see how badly i messed up on my 55 gallon stand! I hope to use this knowledge when i kick the aqueon 75 gallon stand to the curb and bilud a new one. Thank you Jason!
Nice solid job 👍 & that 125 will never budge. I had a Roma 200 before my Fluval shaker & my hubby reinforced the base with wood you've used & put solid wheels on it & half empty it moved about great. Your right above tank prices I paid just over £800 2yrs ago for my shaker & went to view the Fluval shaker 350 & that was over a grand & because it came out more at the front instead of length it was definitely a no 😂 Happy New Year to you 🥂
very informative video, i measured the dimensions of my 165 gallon tank and there all the same as the one in the video, i don't know if i need any more supports for the extra weight, but I'm going to make it work.
Great video! My wooden cabinet stand for my 55g was $345, but it is rated for a 75g because I wanted to be a little extra cautious. Wood is so expensive
What a great build, Jason! I have done dado cut builds before, but I like this one a lot! Will definitely save this for future reference. Thanks and have a happy new year!
Cool project, one feedback is that the stainless screws are the most expensive and typically used in exterior applications and in Cedar as that wood will literally corrode other fasteners. You should be able to find Torx head in other screw types, for interior applications "construction screws" should be sufficient, or if unavailable you could use "deck screws" which are exterior rated but not as pricey as the stainless
Great video. You have a very early video that has you using one of your at the time very young kids as a weight while building a stand; I think it would be funny to use the now teenager for the same thing. Long time viewers would get a kick out of this.
Hey Jason! My dad and I just built this stand over the last two days. It was such a fun project to work on with him-he taught me a lot about woodworking and how to square boards, use clamps, the table saw, etc.One thing you forgot to mention in your video is how DANGGUM HEEAAVVYYY this sucker is! 😅 I love it and can hardly wait to get the tank!
In some cases I use 1/4” plywood and nail it to the bottom of the uprights (it works perfectly in my basement. I will also use wood shims, which have also worked very well.
If I can’t build one where can one go to have someone build them a solid stand like this? Probably would still be cheaper than buying it from the store. Thanks in advance.
I'm glad you made your own stand because because aquarium stands are cheaply made and extremely overpriced and they are not even made out of real wood just some Particle board or something that will fall apart.
Great video as always!!! Is there a product that you can recommend safe for plants and fish to get rid of cyanobacteria? Help please!!!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you so much! I was about to do a H2O2 treatment. I have an UV light, do I just place it on the thank as my regular light? How long do I leave it ON? Thank you so much for always taking the time to answer to your subscribers, even in a holiday. You guys are the best!!
I had a similar issue and I put a UV light inside the HOB filter 24/7 for 7 days. Everything cleared up within a week! Now I just turn it on maybe once a week. I just made sure I took out any thin bags of carbon or what not, as it may cause holes in them. I've always heard that directly putting a UV light inside the tank could damage your fish. I, however, don't know about any fixed, outside UV lights though. Good luck! @@FRamirez1A
No, never put a uv bulb over your tank. The one you need is specifically made to go in the water and is built in with a pump so water flows over the uv. One brand I know of is called The Green Killing Machine.
O would ley this e “ insiste legs” ho sol the es y to the flor anda to the top. Like you did , all the weight Of the aquarium rest on the screws That eventually will be forced to move down

Awesome stand I always love a solid diy stand especially for bigger tanks. Looks sturdy great job

Happy New Year!! Now that’s a heavy duty fish stand!! Really nice.
Thank you!
Torx screws are an absolute must for any project! 90-degree clamps are also nice for keeping the joints perfectly square while running the screws.
Thanks for the tip. Got plenty of clamps that could assist me that I forgot I owned

It turned out really great Jason! Happy new year's Eve 🙂👍

It really does save so much money!
@PrimeTimeAquatics and even if you did pay that $1200 for a stand its still not built out if solid wood. Don't understand that.
This is just an excellently organized, practical and helpful video. Thank you.
Thank you!
Very thoughtful build!!! I'm dazzled.👍

That's a very nice great job my friend. Only way to go save some money. Happy new year!
Have you checked out a board calculator?
I just finish building two stands and used one. The calculator actually gave me my size cuts too.
No, but it doesn't take me long to work it all out.
Ugh you make me want a saw now 😂❤
Very informative vid cheers 💪🏽
Love the cut list matrix

Yes! I think that was the double 125 stand. Haha
Perfect Timing. Have to build this stand. Yours are the best plans. One question, what type wood are the 2 X 6's? Thank you and Happy New Year!
It was whatever Lowes had - I believe pine?
Thanks.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics
Those star bits are called torx
Stand looks good, one thing I’ve never bothered with on my own builds is doors or paint
Thank you, yes - torx. : -)
What size 2x6 did you buy for the layout .
8ft
What kind of wood are you useing? 2x4?
2x6
And how many wood in full length to build 1 stand?
I Remember working for a contractor, that would mess something up, then say, oh well. Its the painters problem now 20:51 ... I was the painter. Lol
Great video! Do you have one for double rack?
Here you go: th-cam.com/video/GgNdD1iSd5A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=imZ3fjk7XZbbMkG-
What were the dimensions of that stand build, and you said you used 2x6 also. Can those dimensions be used with 2×4 or it doesnt make a difference?
The dimensions are written on the sheet I show. People use 2x4, but I'm not as comfortable with that, but the dimensions would be the same.

For sure - I build them in place and slide them around. Picking them up is not fun!
Hi Jason by the way that stand is fire..what did you use to paint, and was it a stain +poly?
Just used a water based paint.
@@PrimeTimeAquaticsThanks for responding
What type of wood should I use?
I just use whatever Lowes has for 2x4s.
How do you level the stand?
In some cases I use 1/4” plywood and nail it to the bottom of the uprights (it works perfectly in my basement. I will also use wood shims, which have also worked very well.

I’m not sure if there is anyone building this style? The places I know all make the higher end stands.
I think I will contract Tommy Silva from This Old House.
Id recommend measuring every cut. You'll be upset when all your boards are different sizes
Measure twice. Cut once. (I live with a carpenter) 😉
What time is it?!
Yes!
Saving for when i buy a house haha

Now this stand can hold a car
A year!? I don't think I can wait that long. You'd better do one sooner 😅
😀
I see a brown stand
And I want it painted black
No colors anymore
I want them to turn black
You have some work to do. Haha
I think you could probably park a car on that, LOL.
That’s the idea. Haha
Hello sir why dont you make scape videos
We did a couple recently, but nothing high-end. More hobbyist level scapes.
