If I ran an automaker, my cars would have Sony Mobile ES option with GaNFET class D amplifiers and as a standard feature for full-size sedan and midsize crossover models. 3 way components up front and coaxials in the rear shelf or rear doors, and software based Dolby atmos emulation. Also have golden yellow accents on each grill as an indication that they are Sony Mobile ES speakers with its 12 inch sub underneath the trunk floor in a glass and mineral fiber reinforced plastic enclosure. The base sound system are Sony MRC speakers that are deck amplified. For compact car and subcompact crossover it won’t have a sub but will have lower wattage amps to protect the midbass drive and coaxial units from over excursion damage due to playing sub bass frequencies.

I am an italian musician since 1993, passionate about beautiful sound and proud ex owner of a Volvo C30 with excellent Dynaudio system.
I recently purchased a new Volvo XC40 with premium Harmar Kardon sound system.
I made the serious mistake of going to trust the purchase, back from the excellent past experience, and now I'm desperate: it's bad. It has almost childish defects, such as the total lack of stereophony (having those two species of side boxes that shine only on the highs). Everything focuses on the central woofer, which however is cold and does not satisfy stereophonic listening. The subwoofer is ok, except that compared to the rest it is strongly unbalanced.
    Summing up:
    -No stereophony
-A little enveloping audio, with a cold and cutting sound reproduction.
-Too high, to hurt the ears, so much so that I found myself forced to reset the 3 highest frequencies in equalization.
-Zero medium, medium-low. The proof is that both the voices and the guitars, distorted and not, totally disappear from listening. Forget about listening to FooFighters ...
    -Little incisive and non-sectoral regulations
    - Fully artificial home theater version full of annoying reverbs.
    TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT
I am considering returning the car after 1 month.

Mirko BC - I have the premium harman kardon in my 2018 BMW 540. It sounds exactly as you describe above. You have to turn it way up to get it to sound decent and then after awhile, it kills your ears. Very fatiguing .

Is this car audio enough for listening to music on nice level or necessary to upgrade into B&W? I am not an audiofile but I like good quality of sound and bass. I would be appreciate to recieve your feedback 😊.

Too bad that Volvo have destroyed the whole premium sound experience by forcing a stupid software update feature called Sound/volume compensation where the volume of your car audio will go up & down according to the speed u r travelling. So every time you slow down the music will drop aggressively, then when you accelerate the music goes up! This is so annoying that I am thinking of get rid of the car as it driving me mad. I hope that people out there will begin to complain so Volvo can put out another update to return the ability to switch off this ridiculous feature... Certainly no competition to Mercedes or Audi's infotainment system, that's for sure

    • @Future-Theory
      @Future-Theory 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

A simple google search would of reveled that this feature can be simply turned off...
The audio system compensates for disrupting noises by increasing the volume in relation to the speed of the car. The compensation level can be set to Low, Medium, High or Off.
Press SOUND to access the audio settings menu. Turn TUNE to Volume compensation and press OK/MENU.
Select level by turning TUNE and confirm with OK/MENU.

Volvo XC60 Inscription D4 mit Haman Kardon Sound-System. Großartiges Auto. Das Sound-System ist eine Katastrophe. Die maximale Lautstärke ist ungenügend. Der Sound klingt immer nach schlechter Kompression. Im Vergleich zu meiner ehemaligen B&O Anlage in meinem Audi TT leider unglaublich schlecht. Ich bin enttäuscht. Sonst noch jemand mit ähnlichem Gefühl hier?
