This performance gave me the chills I needed. Thanks, Stern Show.
OK
Gives more chills than Post Malone
Wore this album out back when it came out. Still one of the best ever.
Christopher's voice is just heavenly. Anytime "Sailing" comes on the radio, the whole family will stop what they're doing and sing along.
only 2 musical instruments and his voice could create magic
I think it’s better with just Chris and a guitar
The keyboardist didn't obviously didn't rehearse before@@andocobo
Esageratamente bravo
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Based on that thumbnail, I thought Cross had quite the party going on in the back 😆
The 3 note droning keyboard is unbearable! Cross’s vocals are great.
Just pure talent. He sounds as good as he did 40 years ago.
Because this clip was 30 years ago. 😂
No auto tune just a real singer
Okay boomer
@@philipbottomley2537 The natural ability to sing without a crutch seems foreign to you.
@philipbottomley2537 Okay, short bus 🤡.
@@chadseals9943 Forgive him, he is used to listening to crap that's why he considers great music a nuisance.
@@philipbottomley2537Gen X buddy, can dissolve millennials into dust.
His voice... just wow... so much soul... so much light...
He does have a good voice but when he first came out on MTV people were shocked his looks didnt match his voice and almost derailed his career.
Yea. Give me shivers.
One of the best songs ever written.
Yes!❤❤❤❤
It really is
LEGEND ABOVE
Belongs in a Hall Of Fame of the greatest songs of all time. When music was music.
yes
"New Kid in Town" was written by The Eagles about Christopher Cross
That’s my favorite song. Need a source
Big respect to the keyboard player, playin without a damper/sustain pedal.
Chris is actually great guitar player.
Its not a hard song to play
@Gecko.... No no. Chris played Ted Nugent and other rockers before fame hit. He's a very proficient player.
He’s actually an incredible guitar player.
i bet it was a lot harder to write though.
Pity the keyboard player forgot his sustain pedal #staccato
Massive Howard fan, but this clip is another example of how back in the Krock days the little respect Howard had for some of the insanely talented people that came through his doors. Because Christopher wasn’t Paul McCartney, Howard doesn’t care and his tone is almost disrespectful.
Totally agree. Jesus, good for Christopher cross for playing at straight an honest. And sharing a great personal story.
I disagree Howard was trying to keep light and funny. If he wanted to be rude he would've been. He went way harder on WAY WAY bigger celebs than christopher cross.
Can you explain this to me? Because I fully agree. Nowadays Howard is incredibly kind & respectful and I believe that’s the real him. What changed? Also I’ve met Christopher Cross, one of the nicest people and definitely 💯 one of the most talented artists to ever make records in the last 50 years. What a voice.
On FM format, Howard has much less time to interview. Thus, he had to be brief and blunt.
Agree. I love Howard but Chris deserved more
His voice is not from this earth its from heaven😊!
Christopher Cross and Dean Freidman.....
One of the Greatest songs ever
Back story makes the song even better. One of the great classics.
I love this song. It teleports me straight back to the 80s.
👁😉🙏💚🇫🇷
SUCH an underrated vocalist - magical.
Underrated by whom? He was a MASSIVE 5 Grammy winning star in his heyday and still well known today.
he wasn't underrated at all. he was praised for his voice incessantly
And guitarist
Such an interesting songwriter.
His phrasing, chorus, and song structure are very unique and underrated
100 percent
Sailing was released at the end of 1979 and became one of the biggest songs of 1980!!Aloha from Hawaii🤙🏽
Such a beautiful song. Many memories. Thanks Christopher.
Indeed ! Happy holidays wiz
I wasn’t a huge fan of the song, but I found when I learn the backstory to certain things, it brings a whole new meaning and this is one of them…
He's awesome! No auto bullshit !
I always liked this song
What is Howard doing in the beginning? That is disrespectful indeed.
Christopher killed this shit!! Legend
Christopher Cross first album is a masterpiece!
Beautiful song.
The most beautiful song ever wrote. The perfect song. The words, the arrangement, the music, the effects…
This song stops me in my tracks everytime it’s played.
Totally agree with you!!!
oh that's very debatable
Ya it very well could be. 👍😎
Me too, it kind of reaches into my chest and grabs my heart......or soul maybe and takes me back to somewhere I haven't even been to...
I'm really stoked to hear the reason behind this song.....I appreciate his honesty
His voice is just so pure. Not a single intonation issue at all. Amazing.
Good song
His voice is magic. We almost lost him to Covid. Thank god he’s still here and making music.
Thanks for sharing. I didn’t realize that
Wrong. We did lose Howard to covid, he lost his flippin mind.

In '95 i would listen to the radio (we had "radios" way back then) and when this song came on, i would focus, and just be "taken away". I always used to envision early summertime, people talking, having fun in the sun and water, while a huge white anvil cloud just sits out there, completing the whole grand aesthetic... His voice IS absolutely beautiful and it still "takes me away"
Always felt this was such a haunting song. It’s amazing but it also depresses me in a way and I love it.
Chris looks the same, if not better today nearly 30 years later.
Artistically he struck gold with that song & album. Priceless!!!!!
One of the best debut albums ever.
This song is a gift that keeps on giving.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Richard Christy
🤣
CC is so underrated. Good stuff.
That was wonderful! Such a comforting song.
His voice is goosebumps and love. One of the best voices that do not naturally exist 💯🙌🏽🙌🏽🥰🥰👌👌💖💖💖
Damn that's good.
Good ole yacht rock 🤘🏼⛵
Timeless!
He’s talented. Very melodic.
first time hearing this, wow. i love this
He has the voice of an angel!
Love this tune from the first listen years ago.
One of the most distinctive voices in Music.
A true classic Artist.
Absolutely the Truth ❤❤❤
Ahhh that was so nice.
This was "our song"
When I was dating my wife this would come on the radio as I was going to see her
We danced to it at our wedding.
"That ain't it.".
Wow......Simply beautiful.
At the end I smiled as well 😀
The song was written 40 years ago, but you just discovered what it meant a few moths ago? What kind of acid were you snorting 40 years ago?
Side B of Christopher Cross is top 5 for me….❤️
I spent two years at many dentist visits for braces and heard way too my yacht rock. So, I associate it with lots of pain and the taste of blood.
Killer song... great songwriter... the theme song for Arthur is my favorite.
Yup but Arthur's song was actually written by Peter Allen, wasnt it?
@@fernandooliveira3113 Burt Bacharach co-wrote 'Arthur's Theme (the best that you can do)' with Carole Bayer Sager, Christopher Cross, and Peter Allen.
@@Modernjazz1 Thanks! Did not know that
i enjoyed listening to christopher cross back in the late 1970's/early 1980's. i remember this song as a kid.
Awesome love it thank you
I thought it was KG of Tenacious D lol. Kidding aside, Chris is an awesome songwriter and guitar player!
Beautiful ❤
lol, had no idea he was on the show.
Fun fact: Stevie Ray Vaughan's Number One guitar originally belonged to Christopher Cross. Cross traded the Number One to Hennig’s shop for a Les Paul because he wanted something with a thicker sound. Then Ray Hennig gifted it to SRV along with a trade.
1995. The last year Stern was good. 😊
That whole album was great, Grammy for album of the year
One of my favorite songs ever.
HeadBangin' Robin 😂
What a voice
Awwwww. Love that song. Everyone looks so young! 💖💖
How do you feel about it when guitarists slide their fingers across the strings and make that noise? Do you think it's unprofessional? -Napkin Ed.
Is the sustain pedal not working on the piano?
Lol 😂...the pianist killed the song ☠️🙉
Fantastic. And the meaning behind the song.... Super emotional. Wow
I was in a bunch of cover bands in the early 80's. I sang this one about a thousand times.
Beautiful song , love it
What a wonderful performance!
Legend.
such a great song and such an underated singer!
This song is a masterpiece. One of the best pop songs ever IMHO. So much good can be said about it. Chris' vocals. The instrumentation. Arrangement. Production. The words and melody make it pretty unique too. In a league of its own. I guess there's a reason I've listened to it a million times!
This is great
It's a bit difficult to understand of how someone can be so disrespectful and ridiculous at the same time. On the other hand how humble and wise an International giant of the music industry behaved in front of that mindless creature. If he evolved, he must be absolutely regretted
Best song takes me back when I was young thank-you Chris good times growing up early 80s
The piano completely ruined this. Lack of a sustain pedal I'd say.
Love the song, very sad for the story behind it.
Great song but the keyboard player killed it!
Great song and a fantastic album.
1995? Better hurry and book Christopher Cross for my Millennium party.
Love this whole album still
I love Chris so much memories !!
You remember that song..."Saiiiiiiling" ?
...."No"
Songs this good are just not written anymore, if you have any examples of songs written in the past few years, that are on this level, near perfection, please list them below.
Maybe not on the level of sailing but ella baila sola is a killer guitar song written in 2023
Howard Stern is a bonafide bozo.. take it for what you will.
Christopher Cross has to be one of the alltime American songwriting legends sailing and aurthurs theme in particular are just genius songwriting masterpieces brilliant musician❤
What a great and natural performance!
That beautiful song inspires fighting in life! Fantastic song!!!
One of the most pleasant voices I've heard, he and Karen Carpenter ought to have done a duet!
Sweet Casio keyboard version
