Stupid story with a total fantasy script and some of the best music of the 1980s.
This will always be one of my top Rock-N-Roll movies.
And as everyone has stated, Diane Lane is fabulous in this movie (and in life).
I watch it at least once a year. The music will always pull me back.

Streets of Fire is a classic. A true rock and roll fairy tale. I can't wait to show this movie to my kids like my dad showed it to me. Hope my son doesn't fall in love as hard as i did with Diane Lane.

I saw this movie in the theaters in Charleston South Carolina as a young 20-year-old. Crappy story, but a great soundtrack. The visuals are still outstanding to this day.

The full soundtrack from this movie is amazing. Diane Lane is fantastic. And a very early Willem Dafoe being his most Willem DaFoe'iest. The only thing that drags it down a little is its lead is a bit wooden.

It was one of the early VHS-HI tapes. Hook up the VHS to the stereo and play it thru speakers the size of a small refrigerators.
Over the top, super slick 80's thing... But I can testify...they 80's were awesome.

If i had to pick one PERFECT MOVIE from the 80s THIS would be IT... SO underrated... That romantic scene where Ellen and Tom kissed in the rain STILL gives me goosebumps... Enlisted a few weeks after.... watch the movie hundreds of times STILL have the video cassette.
I only watched this for the first time about 5 years ago but it left such an impression on me. Bought it as a steelbook on blu.

The weird thing about the 80's is that I was a teen then and thought that the "good times" would always last and it would keep going forever --- but in the 90's I saw foreboding signs like the angry tone of grunge and the the school shootings of the late 90's and then finally 9/11 and I knew our society would no longer be the happy and optimistic culture we had in the 80's

i remember this movie getting crushed by critics....but i didnt care...i loved it
and what a cast
Music was good, cast was good, sets and costumes good. The story and script were not good. All the other things cannot make up for a bad script.

such a great movie and soundtrack. This probably was the first movie for Michael Paré, Diane Lane, Rick Moranis, Amy Madigan, Willem Dafoe, Deborah Van Valkenburgh, Bill Paxton - they were all great - Willem DaFoe - HUGE!
Mot of them had done _something_ before this movie. Diane Lane had been around for a bit before this. She did Six Pack and The Outsiders before Streets of Fire. And Michael Pare had been in Eddie and the Cruisers the year before Streets came out (and though it's not a movie, Pare had also been on Greatest American Hero on TV). Rick Moranis had done Strange Brew, and this opened within a week of Ghostbusters; depending on the town you lived in and when you got each movie, it's possible you knew Moranis from Ghostbusters first, even if you didn't know him from Bob & Doug.
As for Dafoe, his first leading role was in a movie called The Loveless all the way back in '81, co-written and co-directed by the one and only Kathryn Bigelow. And yet another motorcycle gang.

The cast of this movie includes: as members of the Sorels: Robert Townsend, Grand Bush (from "Die Hard"); Stoney Jackson (Beat It video); Mykelti Williamson (Bubba from "Forrest Gump); EJ Daley (voice of Tommy Pickles from "Rugrats"); Bill Paxton ("Twister"); Williem Dafoe ("John Wick"); Lee Ving ("Flashdance"); Deborah Van Valkenburgh ("Too Close for Comfort"); Rick Rossovich ("Top Gun") and, last, but not least, Beyoncé's step-daddy, Richard Lawson! Honorable mention goes to Olivia Brown ("Miami Vice"); Ed Begley, Jr. ("St. Elsewhere"); and Lynne Thigpen ("Where in the World is Carmen Santiago").

I loved this movie when I was young. Owned it on VHS and made every boyfriend I had over the years watch it. 😂 I met Michael Parè and can vouch he is more beautiful in person. I own it digitally now. :)
I remember when the movie came out. It was hyped - A Rock and Roll Fable, but it tanked. 40 years later it's a classic. Awesome soundtrack, Lane and Dafoe in their youth.

This is the most action field musical I've ever seen. I remember when the movie came out and I saw it, I went and bought the album the next day.
I remember reading an interview with the director of Streets Of Fire. He described the movie like this.
The Queen of the Hop is taken by The Leader Of The Pack. Soldier Boy comes to save her.
It was, indeed a rock-n-roll fable. It was set in the early to mid 50’s. The Korean War was raging, which explains Amy Madigan’s character as a veteran of the Korean War. Michael Pare’s character is a veteran of the Korean War.
Rock-n-Roll music was a new phenomenon.
Leather, lace, blood and fire. That was evident in the entire film.

So in Japan, in the late 80s when this movie and song came out, some animators formed a company and went for broke to make an epic anime. And the music was inspired by Streets Of Fire while the sci-fi was inspired by Blade Runner. It's called Bubblegum Crisis and the soundtrack is amazing.
Michael Paré was the quintessential cool 50's guy in the 80's.
"Moving sidewalks..." long before MJ called it: Moonwalking.
To this day, never seen this movie, but man I remember loving this video when it came on and I always watched it.

One of the greatest songs of the 80s hands down
The soundtrack from this movie is incredible. This might be one of the rare times HD Films picked the wrong song to go with. While I can Dream About you got the most FM airplay, the two big Jim Steinman songs Nowhere Fast and Tonight is What It Means To Be Young are the real movie defining ones.
While a box office bomb the movie has a cult following. And it’s distinct “Nightime Retro Future” styling would be picked up and mainstreamed by the likes of Tim Burton, and Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. What most think of as Gotham City was inspired by this.

@@seanraines5871 The movie ain't much but the music was a few classes above. Go look up Tonight is What It Means To Be Young and Nowhere Fast, they are way above the standard for the screenplay.
