    We got a new math curriculum this year and I completely understand your frustration. I have always preferred teaching literacy over math, but the past 3 years I have found a way that works for both me and the kiddos, and makes me enjoy teaching it more and more. This year we got a new curriculum and I feel like all of that progress washed away as soon as we opened our new workbooks the first week. I want you to know that you are not alone in feeling like you aren't being the best teacher you can be for your kiddos. However, you are truly a phenomenal teacher, I love watching your videos and have picked up little things throughout the years of watching that I have brought into my own classroom!! Thank you for doing what you do and deprivatizing your practice, while also being real and authentic!

    We started the same reading curriculum last year. Definitely overwhelming and it took us most of the year to get in a good rhythm…then they changed some of the elements this year🤦🏻‍♀️ our team feels like we are starting all over. I’d love to see how you’re implementing all of the components, especially writing!

    • @MrsCallsCampers
      @MrsCallsCampers  ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for this comment.....how long does the shared reading take you doing it the way the curriculum wants?

    • @allysonward2623
      @allysonward2623 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrsCallsCampers I have 45 minutes to teach/review vocabulary and focused skills/strategies posters, then the shared reading, and we supplement with a project from tpt that has some kind of writing to go with the story. We go into centers after which sometimes get shortened because the project runs long. Our team created our own slides, last year, which help with the flow. But we’ve changed to using the structured literacy lessons, so half of our slide do not match anymore. We are only a week into school, so hopefully we can get everything smoothed out soon and not have things so choppy! There are FB groups that can be helpful, but you’ll see that so many teachers are just as frustrated 😞

    I use the same math and reading curriculum as you do and I agree with everything you said. For the reading it's all over the place and does not really follow a pattern like it should and as for the math it truly is over the students heads and is also all over the place. I have to supplement many times just to get my students to learn and get them to the level they need to be by the end of the year. You are doing a great job and certainly not alone in how you feel.

    Hey! I had to teach Envisions with "fidelity" for 5 years. It is the absolute worst! I totally understand every single thing you are saying. There were never enough practice problems for kids to fully understand the concept. I would create additional problems for kids to practice with a partner before doing the independent practice problems. It did help, but it definitely wasn't perfect. You are doing amazing, and I literally learn something new from your videos every time I watch them. ❤❤❤

    Your videos are SO helpful and encouraging for me. I teach Abeka math....so worksheet oriented, not enough time to supplement with hands on and practice. I am really trying to incorporate more with my slides. For reading, we are doing Wonders 2017...not a fan of that really either. Please keep these videos coming..they are really helping me!! Oh, and my small groups are coming along, so grateful whenever you share those as well. You are really a fantastic teacher!!

    Mayleen,
    Thank you for showing us your calm corner because I was wandering if you still had that light up worry plaque or not and this shows that you do.
    I really, really like that worry plaque of yours.
    You really are a beautiful and resourceful teacher, one that I wish that I could have had.
    Keep your head up !,

    Your channel is alway so helpful to me. As a mom to a 5&6 year old who homeschools you always give me great ideas to implement! (Especially your songs ☺️🤎) I ordered a primer journal for my 1st grader after watching this video. I really want to work on his writing a bit more and that idea is perfect. I follow a few teachers in ig and you are so right sometimes it feels like their goal is to influence and not necessarily to help. Hopefully this comment encourages you to continue to walk in your own purpose both in the classroom and online. You are making a difference 🤎
    p.s. love the snippets of ice skating we never stop learning 😊

    Hey! I may be moving from third to first next year so I've been enjoying your channel! I was wondering if you have done or could do a video with your chants / songs. I saw the one for mapping. I have heard a few for letter formation. I just don't know where you get them all from! I feel like I will need all summer to memorize some!

    I work in this same district in Las Vegas. My first grade team and I had to stay after school for a couple of days to dissect the curriculum and put it in an order that makes sense while only choosing specific books and having the ability to spiral. This is due to the curriculum covering way too many standards at a time. I also think a new concept can be a bit overwhelming. We had to also do that for the language and writing curriculum.

    I can't believe your skating progress. It has taken me YEARS to make the progress you've made in a few months. I hope you're considering competing at adult beginner levels because you would rock it and skating in a dress is amazing.
    Do you have any advice for a rowdy disrespectful class? I'm always amazed watching your vlogs because my class at 4 weeks looks nothing like your class did even at week 1. I can not get through reading instruction because they are playing, talking to someone across the room, throwing pencils and paper wads, pinching each other, not paying any form of attention whatsoever. I do a lot of Whole brain teaching, call backs, choral reading, positive reinforcement, etc try to keep them as involved and "doing the work" as I can but it doesn't really help. The blatant and intentional disrespect is just blowing my mind. This is 2nd grade by the way. It takes us 3 hours to get through 20 minutes worth of instruction because we're having to stop and reset literally every 3-5 seconds (I am not exaggerating!). In 4 weeks it has not improved at all. If anything it has gotten worse. I just don't know what to do. I've never had a class like this.
    The parents don't care, most of them I can not get in any form of contact with, and if I do their response is along the lines of "So? It's your job to deal with them at school."
    They don't care about any of the consequences/punishments in place, and when they lose their fun friday/free time, they can usually tell me why they lost it and yet still they escalate with the defiance and disrespect and it makes things even worse to hold them accountable, sometimes to a point of being a safety issue.
