you're so f*cking cool for uploading this. when i listen to dgd i dont listen to this demo a lot despite being in my possession, but when i dont its usually bc the mix isnt the most clear--so this is literally much better. man i love dance gavin dance.
been listening to these songs for 13 years my friend. I think a good deal many of us that used to listen at this point no longer enjoy new DGD and have been struggling to like it for a while. These were the golden days.
I've been listening to dgd for 6 years and I never knew this record, I feel sad that I could sing along all their album yet those 4 songs were unknown to me, thanks deezer for not having them anywhere 😭
Yeah TECHNICALLY they're better now. But sometimes hyper-polish is boring. This speaks to me so much more than the newer stuff with no edge. (I like the newer stuff, but still.)
Rawness is something that I'm really missing in modern music in general tbh. Not to say that a lush production is always bad, sometimes it's exactly what the music needs, but it doesn't go well with every style and sometimes things are better left unpolished instead of being overproduced. I do like the newer stuff from DGD too, but DBM and self-titled will forever be my favorites from them.
man they used to be so bad but in high school i loved it anyway! flat vocals and hardly any melody to the guitar hooks! DGD are the prime example of hard work paying off. they have grown so much as musicians and songwriters its insulting when i see people say Downtown Battle Mountain is the best. THIS IS PROOF YOU SHOULD NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS!
I think for alot of us it just encapsulates the lo fi times of 05 to 2013/15 It makes us feel young. I remember being 10 and listening to alot of Say Anything and royal ocean on my brothers 'Halo edition ZUNE' I'd watch red vs blue then listen to sad shit my bro frost/limewired. Weirdly I went thru a Metallica and ozzy phase in 7th grade. I think mostly because my brother cultivated a niche taste for a 12 year old and all the other rocker kids had some basic ass taste so I had to like that shit. Didn't last long. At my core i was a panic at the disco, there for tomorrow, and dance gavin dance 'kid'. Still am.
I didn’t listen to Downtown Battle Mountain until like 2018 tbh. I was on MySpace in 2007 just never got into them. DBM & this demo are probably my favorite projects. S/o Kurt, Tilian is cool too but all the Jonny stuff slaps way harder.

I love that raw sound of older recorded songs.
check out “Pow! right in the kisser” by Hail the sun
Holy shit that last song, it’s crazy to think they have songs w Jonny we’ve never heard.
Here's a Jonny song you might not have heard. Earlier than this even. th-cam.com/video/VR9eGLWois8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7QhjzX17dysCIDA3

I know that they have improved x1,000,000 since this was made, but this kind of sound (dgd or anyone) is what I miss most about the 2000's.

Would love a shirt based on this old design. Actually, was this design available at some point in the past?
i believe this album cover is by a fan who redid the cover of the original demo
how you get this so high quality?
