Like Prince said, “it’s so cold it keeps the bad people out.” 💜 Hair is another example of Slug’s great storytelling…really short song too. (This one was actually 2 songs…Say Shh was a hidden bonus track on the Seven’s Travels album.) Some other great songs from this particular album are Good Times (Sick Pimpin’), Gotta Lotta Walls, and Reflections. And God Loves Ugly has some amazing songs as well…might as well just go through that whole album. 😂 And because I’m a Prince fan first, I have to recommend Face Down and Da, Da, Da from the Emancipation album. Both great hip hop tracks. Sexy MF, Days of Wild, 18 & Over, and Acknowledge Me also have P spitting bars. 😂💜 Face Down has a great music video to go along with it too. It was when P changed his name to a symbol and became an independent artist. The music video is basically a funeral for Prince and a lot of shade is thrown at critics. “Never respected the root of all evil, and he still don’t to this day. Bury me face down and let the muthafuckas kiss a ass, okay?” 😂🔥
The whole song is an anti-gangsta rap song. He keeps setting up our expectations for crimes to happen and then going the other way to subvert our expectations. That he's going to rob the corner mart. That he's going to steal the running car. He's going to hook up with the mom. That there's going to be trouble with the kids hanging out in the street, that's he's going to get mugged with some kid with a gun. But it's just about trying to live a life. And you see that in the second part of the song in that rather than "Make some noise!!!" it's "Everybody say shhh." And the airplane interlude and the pause, you might notice the overall length of the track is 9:11. That overall themes are get home, live your life.
