Bob Mortimer is the best guest by a long way in my opinion, there are some great videos on TH-cam of his appearances edited together, I've literally cried with laughter at him on that show.
The phrase "a comedian's comedian" is PERFECT for Bob Mortimer. He seems to always be the funniest person in the room on whatever show he's on... He had Greg, Alex and contestants in absolute stitches on Taskmaster !
WILTY is a fantastic example of why the people involved matter. The concept is so simple that it feels like there’s no way it can keep going for more than a couple of series, but the energy of Rob, David and Lee just fits so perfectly together that it never gets old.
yeah for stuff like comedy panel shows formats are secondary to the characters on stage, people want to watch the people and laugh at their jokes not watch a silly quiz show. but i feel like actual format and content are less important than ever now with low effort content creators getting views unimaginable in traditional television two decades ago, its more about the personalities than their actual content. i'm curious to see in what way entertainment evolves in the next few decades.
So true. We now have an Australian version and I only managed to watch one episode. I kept recording and seeing who was on but there was never anyone worth watching. Mind you, doesn't help that I can't stand the host.
I know it's a cliché but Rob Brydon seems so nice and down to earth here. He's never seemed like the most glamorous celebrity, but it's interesting to be reminded that he's just an ordinary guy with tastes and interests like the rest of us. I guess that's part of the strength of a podcast like this.
"I'm not fishing for compliments, I know it's good" strikes me as actually one of the realest comments, too. Like, he's not really super-boasting, but he's also not doing that playing-at-being-shy thing that some celebs do. He's got a product he's proud of, basically.
A lot of comedians get hyper-competitive with each other. Part of the genius of WILTY, I think, is that Rob, Dave, Lee & their guests just seem to really enjoy & appreciate each other. The comedy is collaborative, not competitive, and that’s a genuinely beautiful thing, IMO. ❤️
@@tomdavies9004 As he said, he's done his own show a lot. It can be tough to keep it fresh. I used to teach, and the more times you deliver a lesson the harder it is to maintain interest. I think the reason it works so well without comedians is because it allows David, Lee and Rob to take centre stage more and they work brilliantly together
Agreed as that is what the ego of comedians love though they can not openly admit it. We will never know but if someone razor-sharp like Lee, such as The Late Bob Monkhouse(he of the million jokes) came on, he could steal the show and they would not want that. I can see what Rob said about Lee. He never stops acting funny and telling jokes. He's just a delight as a person. Trying to make you laugh at any chance. I love how Tara, Lee's wife, still laughed a lot at his jokes eventhough she's probably the person who he spent most of his time with (as told by Emily Dean in her podcast). I love all his NGO and evenmore when he's playing a married man and a father. The earlier series were funny but I find them a bit predictable (mostly because I've heard the jokes since they're quite old now and been retold a lot). Also, his podcast with his mate on Buddhism is brilliant. Unfortunately he's on hiatus now although he promised to record a new episode this February. Why am I talking about Lee when this is an interview on Rob.
Lee reminds me a bit of Robin Williams, in the sense that both of them were/ are "on" 100% of the time, extremely quick witted, and genuinely seem/ed like great people.
People talking a lot about the names dropped here, and I mostly agree with all of it, but can I just reiterate how amazing Rob's voice is? He just talks in this smooth tone with every word perfectly articulated and enunciated, a genuine pleasure just to listen to.
I’m from Amsterdam, The Netherlands and I can only watch WILTY on TH-cam. But ii is absolutely my favorite show. Rob is the perfect host with his impressions. Lee Mack is amazingly quick. David Mitchell is so funny en eloquent. And most guests are amazing. Bob Mortimer. I love his imagination. Also, the writers, I imagine they make up those lies. Hilarious. And lovely Miranda. They bring me so much joy. Love to everybody from a grateful Dutch girl.
I think he was a great replacement for Angus Deyton, the show improved a lot when moved from late night with swearing and more risque stories to prime time with Rob.
I came up with a rule of thumb regarding Greg Davies and Bob Mortimer. The more mental their stories sound, the more likely they are to be true. If Bob said "I once owned a hippo" I'd be thinking "I wonder where he kept it?" before I'd ever consider it to be a lie.
My favourites on the show are, Lee Mack, David Mitchell, Rob Bryden, Henning Wehn, bob Mortimer, Claudia Winkleman, Greg Davis, Jason Manford and once only on there, Ray Winstone. The one complaint I have about this show, is that it should be on for an hour.
Agreed, Lee Mack is on a different level to everyone else - he does stand up and there are probably others who do it better, they're funny, but lots of practice and feeling out crowds to nail the routine down, Lee Mack does it on the fly on shows like this. The joke he made in response to Deborah Meaden having her house exercised was just genius.
Definitely agree. Like they said, I often find myself thinking "No bloody way he just came up with this. HAS to be edited/scripted!!" but happy to believe Rob on this one.
It's weird because I recently watched the episode that Rob was a panelist on (somebody had uploaded it to TH-cam!) - and he was great! You watch it and feel like he completely took charge over the game, the actual host had less power in comparison. And all the comments said the same thing: "you can tell why they got him to host the following series!" It's weird hearing Rob say that he thought he sucked lol!
You are 100% right but that is Professional Insecurity. He also said he regrets turning down The Michael Buble Show as he did not think he would be good enough to sing. It applies thru' live,I have discovered as a 67-year-old Londoner. I was once walking with my very attractive 50-year-old friend who had been an Ex-Model and it was clear to see why however when I cracked my usual "joke" with Females I have known for a long while and are very friendly with about age then I saw even she went quiet for a while. The "joke" is (only to be used with long term female friends who are strong) is to start with the usual "THAT is your age ?? So I was talking to my grandmum about my favourite comedians and happened to mention Lee Mack. She genuinely went, "oh, the bloke who owns the word STEADINGS?" yes granny, yes.
James and Bob are just ludicrously good partly because they're very funny but partly because they both just have so many absolutely ridiculous true stories from their past. Interesting that shout out to the non-comedians
The only bad thing about when Acaster is on is that I've listened to the "scrapes" compilation to go to sleep to for years lol so I knew the answer before he'd read the card.

Happy to hear Rob comparing Richard Osman to Lee Mack. Lee Mack has done the stand up circuit, practicing jokes and witty comebacks for years before starting on TV. Richard hasn't and can keep up with Lee when it comes to quips. It's quite impressive.
Im danish and i love the show! I never watch panel shows but this is one of my favorite shows! I prefer to not know much if anything about the guests outside the show. To me they are just part of WILTY. I knew and watch Lee's and Mitchells stuff before the show and love that too.

A bit of constructive criticism, Rob's mic seems to be a good bit lower than the other 2. I have my volume all the way up and the hosts are coming in loud and clear, but I'm struggling to hear Rob over them.
I came here to say this too. Enjoyed the interview, but the volumes are mismatched and also very dynamic, so should have some compression to even things out a bit. If you check things on a meter you can see there's even a large difference between Rob's quiet and loud bits!
Absolutely. Lee Mack's quick wit is absolutely on another plane. i started watching the show for David and ended up loving Lee the most. And Rob completed the trio. Honestly, there will never a show like Wilty nor such a cast like Lee, David & Rob.
Who has been your favourite guest from the show - comedian or non comedian? 🇳🇺
The ultimate line up would be Henning Wehn and James Acaster on David Mitchell’s team, and Bob Mortimer and Greg Davis on Lee Macks team.

James and Bob are just ludicrously good partly because they're very funny but partly because they both just have so many absolutely ridiculous true stories from their past. Interesting that shout out to the non-comedians
James acaster being 38 is mindblowing
He's just turned 37 so you're safe for now ;)
Like Rob I also think of James Acaster as a young comedian, and I'm... 38.
(James is 37 though.)
I'm glad Rob said the thing about young comedians/unknowns, it's something I've thought about before - I'm not the only one! 😂
The only bad thing about when Acaster is on is that I've listened to the "scrapes" compilation to go to sleep to for years lol so I knew the answer before he'd read the card.
I think his Marion and Geoff series was fantastic. Very original and very funny.
Yeah, hugely underrated series
Raj Bisram's magic trick was the funniest clip I have seen in a long long time 😂
I've seen it being filmed, Lee mack really is that quick
Bob's story about the Tawny owl!! Genius!! 😂😂
People you get on here are getting bigger and bigger and bigger... love it!!!

Anna is a beautiful girl.
He's the person I love, he's my light
day. The way the music flows and sounds
is extravagant and fun. Anna is
icon, legend, beautiful girl, princess, inspiration,
a star. I could go on and on, understand this.
I love NBA Anna.#垃圾
Other great guest not mentioned is henning Wehn. Also Kevin bridges horse story is iconic, and love Rory Reid’s cat story and Chris McCausland’s neighbour story.
But David Mitchell's interogatory style sets them off...
Bob Mortimers egg in the bath story is the best ever moment on this show.
Most guests are class, special mention to James Acaster though 😂
Depressing for David Mitchell that he doesn't get a mention here
I think it's pretty incredible how David Mitchell and Lee Mack have such radically different styles and are still comedic equals. This was a small excerpt, I bet he was mentioned at another time.
Bob Mortimer is the goat guest

the beta hand down
best
Lee mack is genuinely astoundingly quick on his feet. He's amazing.
Bob mortimer, James Acaster, henning wehn as guests have always been amazing, but you have to love David and lee haha
James accaster cabbage story.....goated
The bit about not being home for the delivery and having to go collect a cabbage had me in tears laughing. I hope to god that part was true.
Oi oi savoy 😁
Greg Davies with the veeeggeatablleess story has to be my all time favourite and the cushooon is pretty close
Your getting some massive names on this podcast!! Much respect great interview as always 🙏
Kevin Bridges has had some amazing moments
Bobs stories that are true are always so weird thats what's funny.
Not a single WILTY secret revealed here that I could spot but still a great interview nonetheless!
I’m defo losing it here because he sounds way more Welsh than I remember lmao

Bob Mortimer is the greatest guest on WILTY
@Real Aiglon no 🙄
Great interview with Rob, I love him! Please invite Tim Key on the podcast. And Rob, please get Tim Key on WILTY?! 🙏
"Lightening Lee Mack" always got something to say😂
I think as a comedian Miles Jupp is also very funny on the show.
Miles Jupp's episodes of the News Quiz on Radio 4 were the funniest I think it ever was, I really miss him from that, he's SO funny.
A bit of constructive criticism, Rob's mic seems to be a good bit lower than the other 2. I have my volume all the way up and the hosts are coming in loud and clear, but I'm struggling to hear Rob over them.
It’s because the hosts are wearing headphones. They’re much more aware of how their voice is being picked up in their microphones.
One piece of advice I learnt from would I lie to you is if you meet bob mortimer, never ask him the the name of anything.
"We called him Good Monson"
The one I like the most would be “ the snipers dream”
we called him mavis
On the contrary, always ask him the name of everything.
Rob Brydon has made himselfs the UKs fave Uncle imo.... Not just a Bryn
lee mack and james acaster are two of my favourite comedians they are both just so incredible at what they do
Rhod Gilbert and James Acaster are some of my favorites
Rhod 🙏
James Acaster and his cabbage nemesis! Any Bob Mortimer episode.
The question at 4:22 makes Rob go super Welsh for a second
0:30 "from that old TV show called Call My Bluff".
Charles dance and the chimpanzee for tea one was great. .
If I had a son, I would want Bob Mortimer to name him.
Bob mortimer and his mask story in Scotland 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rob Brydon doesn't say so - he's too modest - but he is what makes WILTY the brilliant show that it is . . .
