When I was 14 years old (summer of 1961) our church youth group from Seattle, Wash. area went to Los Angles and one day we spent at Disney Land. I was in a group of around 20 of us were sitting having a soda pop. This girl about our age walked up to us and started to ask questions about where are we from and why. She took a liking to me and stood by me asking these questions. I had no idea who she was. She said her name was Hayley and she worked for Disney and would like to show us around. I had no idea who she was but she walked with me in front of the group for three hours. One of the group came up and asked if she was Hayley Mills. She answered yes and told the rest of us who she was. I was in the presence of a big time movie star. Wow! I spent 3 hours that day with Hayley Mills! It was a fun and great experience.
Michael Meredith, what a wonderful story! I would have been in 7th Heaven! I was in love with Hayley, along with a few million others! My niece is an actress. Quite a few years ago when she was around 10, she did an episode of "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper" with Dennis Haskins, the actor who played the principal in "Saved By The Bell." Many years after that, when she was a young adult, she worked with him again at the Greek Theater in Hollywood where she sang. I never did anything like this before, but I went backstage and asked her to introduce me to him because I wanted to ask him about Hayley. As you know, she played a teacher on that show. That was as close as I could come to meeting her, meeting someone who knew her. lol
Same here, thankfully she's still with us. My eldest daughter is named after Hayley as my favourite films of hers are "Whistle Down The Wind" and "The Family Way" partly due to the fact I am a Lancastrian they remind me of the Lancashire I grew up in, which, sadly, is long gone now - only memories remain.
I also grew up with & loved all her movies including Whistle Down The Wind, Tiger Bay, Pollyanna, The Parent Trap ( Let's Get Together) & The Truth About Spring. Loved The Trouble With Angels too.

Haley Mills never had the stereotypical hollywood beauty features like a Natalie Wood or Joan Crawford, but she was every bit as beautiful. Currently Hollywood seems to have a very narrow range of characteristics that are considered beautiful, I prefer a much broader range of beauty like in the 60s.
Hollywood has a very funny idea of what "beauty" is. Has girls obsessing about makeup and looking like stick insects at the age of eight. It's absurd, unnatural and revolting. It even infected Hayley before she realised she was just the natural shape her DNA dictated and there was nothing wrong with her.
Growing up in her age group I always felt a bond of Hayley Mills and Annette Funicello - they were all so wonderful! Great actresses.. and fun to watch them on screen!
I read Haley Mills autobiography Forever Young .speaking of Haley and Annette, since they were both part of the Disney family ,when she came to America they both went to the same education classes for actors and they both sat in the same class together.
The great thing about Hayley was that boys & girls loved her (and still love her) equally. The boys wanted to date her and the girls all wanted to be her friend. That's unusual!
My sister and I are about the same age as Haley. In fact many people told us we looked like her. We had long beautiful hair that our mother took very good care of. When the Parent trap movie came out we begged our mother to let us cut our hair like Haley’s was in the movie. Mom took us to the hair dresser and I remember the hairdresser holding out our braids and cutting them off. Our mother cried!
Thank you for sharing these photos. She is such a beautiful woman, and an amazing actress in so many very different roles. I remember the film "Endless night" so well. In the film she was murdered, I was most upset! A haunting film in every sense.
Super talented and no wonder. She takes after her father, John Mills, that portrayed William Mossup in one of the best movies of all time, Hobson's Choice. They are both truly Oscar worthy!!! Special talents and I am glad they became actors of such high caliber!!!
