Ran into a cracked warrior in smileton. He didn't even wait when the healer died he just kept going and did a wall to wall pull without the healer and we still killed the pack.
I had a WAR in Smileton solo the final boss because we all died to a misstep. Warrior is unkillable unless you do the high end content.
I tank as a Warrior and take 3 DPS from my FC with me in dungeons. Don't even need a healer lmao.
Yeah many tries it even at low lvl, this far i saw them fail only, not just warriors, all kind of tanks. But good to know that in good hands and with experience it's not a brainless behaviour. I'm a newbie but i'm interested in Warrior job.

I don't even care what the healer is doing on my warrior. I can keep myself alive without them in any dungeon. It's fun AF. But if you mess up your cooldowns you die without the healer. Perfectly balanced. High skill and high reward.

@@f_mili_r I feel blessed to have moved over to WAR and GNB in shadowbringers. GNB is just so much fun, DRK armour is still the best though.

@@michaelman90 I LOVE the SMN, I had to swap role in my static since players I found were not fitting for the positions I had available and since I'm going caster, SMN will be my main choice... but on the note of monk, to do your best DPS, the best opener is to overcap your resources (double solar nadi) then the obvious "hold your buffs that have 2 stacks to the damage window" and then do your thing... if you do: your window is aligned every 2 minutes... if you don't, it's aligned at 40s, 2:40 etc... there is no buff window in this game other then the bard damage song at 40s... T.T
Wanna fix DRK? Make Blackest Night give back HP equal to the amount of the shield left if the shield doesn't break and give an AoE soul eater.

was doing an extreme last night and while our ONE healer was at 65% healing, myself and the other warrior were at 15%. Thats actually quite a bit. And it doesnt count us swapping off shakes during zodiarks ank-morn ability.

It is awesome that the journalists makes Warrior look bad so maybe Square Enix can buff then even more, yeah I know, solo tanking most things even with healer dead while healing myself and another dps to full hp and also easily doing decent damage still feels weak, please I want more buffs! : )

Just make bloodwhetting's heal on hit effect part of defiance.
I started leveling warrior after gunbreakers and so far when i was on gnb and see a fate pop on the way to my destination i check to see if people are doing fates. On war when i see a fate i say hey extra exp.
Facts. AOE fates are free xp.
Going to be sad when warriors get their healing decimated lol. But for now it's fun as hell.

@@Adalon- i doubt that will ever happen since heavensward warriors had pretty good healing and it's not changed much from shb it's just that people didn't play it / don't know how to use nacent right

i find it amazing how these "journalists" actually manage to constantly make a statement and within the selfsame sentence, or the sentence afterwards, turn this statement into the exact opposite of what it was at first.

If there's anything that I've learned these past 4-6 years, it's that I no longer trust most "journalists" (especially if they're coming from a big name company) - or news organizations at that. It's just wrong take, after wrong take. Lack of research after lack of research. Propaganda after propaganda. Example A :')
Yeah... It's kinda hard to take things seriously sometimes. It's good practice to always take things with a grain of salt, but after seeing an "experienced" game journalist struggle with the tutorial of cuphead so badly that he was outpaced by a 5 year old that's literally never played video games before... Yeah, please excuse me while I take things with the whole damn salt shaker, now.
Yep that's why it's funny to me when people don't trust governments or authority figures but they will trust some random news article where no one did any research or just lied, like. I can tell you straight up that journalists regularly reach out to us for a comment and actually get one but they somehow just decide to lie or not include what we said so they can create drama?? It's so fucking dumb. Regular people will never know how often this happens though. Don't trust media.
Like our PR department once gave an incredibly in depth answer to an inquiry but the article they made said we had no comment to make? Hooow

Journalists are the stupidest people in society existing on 4 hours of sleep a night, near or full blown alcoholism, and 8 espresso shots worth of caffeine a day. They operate most of the time literally below 100 iq. How anyone trusts anything they say about anything is astounding.
I play drk more than any other job and still miss blood weapon.. its just a bad ability that desperately needed to be on charges
charges and give it health on hit. like 10% of your damage returns as health. blood weapon is every 30 seconds so wouldnt be OP at all. just this one fix will make DRK's so much more powerful....
I was a DRK Main to and miss blood weapon to, is was so mad when i saw that square enix didnt change the ability with Endwalker.
Love how these "journalists" are getting called out. If one publicly post an opinion, especially in a form of a monetized article, be ready for some critics.
The thing is, if they reached out to some top tier players, quoted them / gave them a shout out, everyone would win.

I've played almost exclusively tank and specifically Paladin since I started in 2017. PLD main tank is not only one of the most exciting experiences I've had with tanking, bit dipping my toes in healer and DPS, I realize just how much more I can push PLD, how I can eek out a little more party support. The complicated nature is a bonus because it keeps things interesting. I like to see my HP bar bounce, making a split second decision to use a Requiscate stack on a damage ability or use a Clemency on a healer who is tunnel visioning on healing me or a DPS and needing some attention. I would argue that PLD is the best tank because it offers a high skill ceiling, low skill floor, high versatility, and great looking skills.
I've seen some people do some pretty ridiculous uptime strats as off tank paladin. You can cheese so many mechanics with a by using cover or hallowed ground. Everytime I see someone who uses hallowed ground solely to avoid damage down debuffs while greeding I crack a smile.
Pld is just not designed to be an MT. The kit revolves around supporting your team more than anything and is therefore somewhat lacking in defensive cooldowns. Divine Veil and Passage of Arms are great party mitigation tools and you can always support your fellow tanks or other party members with Intervention + a defensive CD (Rampart, Sentinel). However, the only CDs that you really have at your disposal for yourself are Sheltron and Sentinel (not counting any of the Job abilities such as Rampart as every Tank has those).
Another minor thing is that Spirits Within scales with your HP so you want to be taking as little damage as possible over the course of a fight to maximize damage.
Clemency isn't really used in somewhat capable raiding groups but can be an absolute life saver for clutch situations in progression and for less difficult encounters and dungeons.
Well... if you think the Tank section of the article was terrible... wait till you read the DPS/Healer rankings... oh my god that guy should be fired.

I love how in addition to calling this journo out, he also called out the ffxiv player base. I’m so tired of the dps is everything mentality, though raid design plays a huge part in that.
Respectfully...when we can end a fight quicker from healing more or mitigating more that IS the game
It's not just an FF thing, regrettably. It's more or less an issue with any game that has a 'meta'. There are always a lot of players that want to play the best thing, but don't want to know why it's the best. So they cling on to the simplest metric they can find: Damage. FF14's playerbase is no exception to the rule.

I'm new to tanking and i love warrior. It's simple to play and it's super good at taking care of themself when things get rough.

I honestly think you can attribute that to the jounro being too dumb to understand SCH.
Solely based on how safe and self-sufficient I feel when tanking, I'd say Gunbreaker and Warrior are the best with Paladin on the second spot and DRK on 3rd. Paladin is my least favorite tank cuz it just feels "light" to play. Not sure how to explain it but while I can feel the impact of Fell Cleaves, Gnashing combo and Bloodspiller for example, using PLD actions feel like hitting air. Weird but that's the only way I can explain. I still play it but the leveling experience as a PLD is a snooze fest. DRK and PLD are still at 81 though so can't say much atm
SURELY you don't think going into a huge mob pack with Requi up and doing as much burst damage as the Reaper in your group while giant swords fall from the sky feels like "hitting the air."

I totally understand you. Not gonna lie, I sometimes confuse Fast Blade with an auto attack simply because the feeling is not there. Compared to stuff like Heavy Swing it feels really light.

Having watched the previous series of rankings by Fanbyte and now starting on these by... what was it... Den of Geek? These rankings all sound like they're written by bitter, salty ex-WoW players who can only see jobs/classes through the lens of WoW classes, and were forced to play FF14 and instead of looking at FF14 as its own thing, judged everything through the WoW lens.
To answer why you’re seeing repeat lines in these articles:
Because none of them are playing, they’re just being told to turn in articles because XIV is the current hotness. So they watch trailers, Google articles from other idiots who haven’t played it, and copypasta whatever they find.
Why do journalists exist again? It sure isn't to be informative...
Oh what a shocker...a journalist that probably didn't even reach 90 on one job, if they even played at all is making a tier list that is most likely based on random bullshit they googled for each job and read some reddits about people that don't know shit about the jobs and still felt like their input is meaningful.
I'm convinced game "journalists" intentionally make shitty tier lists to give playsers and content creators content to cover.
I've honestly never thought about the fact damage is seen as priority for all roles and jobs but damage meters are largely shunned. I get all the reasoning and justification but just never put two and two together with how weird that is
He's so right about the damage dealing hive mind. It's always especially bad when expansions launch and I'm so sick of it. People really, really need to get over themselves. You've got people standing here judging parses and doing whatever they can to do as much damage as possible meanwhile they'll flunk the simplest normal mode mechanics. Most of them won't even survive Savage.

As I don't use anything for parsing so all I know I was on aggro table number 3 after main tank and dance partner.
Been progging Hydaelyn EX lately and it's been quite amusing seeing all these RPR players fail hard during the lightwaves.

@@rogeld6677 Cant quite do that, the aggro table is a rough way to tell how much dps/hps someone is doing by using threat as a metric. Now admitting you are using a logger is a different story.

I have finished multiple fights after a healer dies at or around 50%.
Warrior is smoke and mirrors trickery. You have those epic massive crits, but overall dps is still lower
I absolutely love how PLD feels on Bosses with pugs. So many skills to help your team like, oh he is low before aoe, just toss some quick strong heals even if there is no target. oh the healer is gonna die to this aoe, no problem, i make you dmg imune. the healer died early? no problem i heal the whole grp myself (if they don´t gather to many stickers at least).
But nothing beats warrior in big pulls, specialy if the dps are "afk" and you are runing out of CD's.

I'm a dk main and hate how it feels in EW. War feels like all 3 roles into one. It's crazy. when you can do garentee high crits, heal on your own for alot and have many amazing Def skills it feels like the old dk in stormblood. People can complain about the dps outputs but overall a good tank knows what can and can't be done and when dk feels a little lack luster while hard pulling seems like a huge risk on dk, then something is off.

Well, the author didn't play FF14 in the last months at all. My assumption is that the author play FF14 a bit, leveled one job to 30 and abandon this game and pocket the money that he got for the subscription. So he wrote random BS in this article to cover it up.
Journalists continue to do tier listed based on a game they dont understand and useful awful takes trying to define their stance.

Yeah, after playing DRK, GNB, and then finally- FINALLY coming around to play WAR.
I can say without a doubt that this "Journalist." is full of crap on his description of warrior.
*Raw intuition* a move itself that can give you 10% dmg reduction while also making all your weapon skills give you back HP at a 400 cure potency. Think about that in huge mob pulls with Inner Release. You're damn near invincible.
*Vengeance* is a move that not only give you a 30% dmg reduction, but also reflects dmg back at your enemy.
*Equilibrium* a move that heals better than most Healers moves.
Plus the added plus of having the regular tanking mitigation moves such as Rampart and Reprisal. This Journalist is snorting some serious crack, I can pull a buttload of mobs and rest easy with a WAR can't do the same sometimes as a DRK.
My guy, just wait till your RI upgrades to Bloodwhetting and you bene yourself with 1 chaotic cyclone
I approve this fully, im a WAR main and it feels so awful to play anything else after playing WAR with all the self healing and mitigation, this journalist is smoking something strong or is playing completely different game, however i want to clarify since i see this misunderstanding a lot, Inner release does not increase the healing from Raw intuition/Bloodwhetting but Primal Rend and Nascent chaos skills do

Bloodwhetting actually mitigates 20% for 4s => 10% for 8s + a 400 potency shield + the heals lol.

I've been playing Paladin as my main job since day 1 I started playing (in August 2021), and I'm gonna have to say, what they say about PLD here, is wrong. Yes, it's become better as a main tank option in EW, but it still works a lot better as off-tank. I'm still at early stages as WAR, but from what I've been hearing, it is still a more preferred choice for main tanks, and I agree, since couple of my friends are awesome with it. But overall, I do agree PLD is the best tank, it just requires some effort to master all it has to offer.
As for gunbreaker mains, I don’t know if my rotations are wrong but I can fit gnashing fang combo, double down, then bloodfest, sonic break, and then 3 burst strikes in no mercy buff window.
For the opener its base combo (for 1 catridge) then pop no mercy, gnashing fang combo, then bloodfest, sonic break, double down, burst strike and base combo, am not really sure if I can fit another burst strike at the end though?
I’m in no way high in parses, my best shot is 68%ile, is there any mistakes or room for improvements in this rotations?

WAR:
-forgets to mitigate
-is still full health 1 second later
GNB, PLD:
-Mitigate 28% and 32% with one short CD which also heals them

@@edgeknight1786 Yeah idk what this dude is on about, DRK may not be in an incredible place right now, but it still has the best mitigation ability in the game.
It's amazing how people forget how awesome TBN is against tankbusters... That 25% max HP shield is actually just enough to almost completely nullify a single tankbuster... Yeah it may not do anything healing wise and it's dark arts mechanic can be EXTREMELY clunky when not used against tankbusters BUT that's why TBN exists now... To be used against tankbusters... I can't tell you how many times I was saved from death just by a perfectly timed TBN against a VERY hard hitting tankbuster... At this point it shouldn't be called "the blackest night" it's now "TankBuster Nullifier"
In raids dk isn't bad but hard pulling in dungeons it's frustrating how squishy dk feels. TBN breaks immediately which is ok for more dps output but you can burn your cooldowns quickly if your not careful. I'm a dk main and hate to say it but warrior is at another level perhaps the best tank in the game for now. As a OT I'm seeing myself the MT when the other random tank dies
@@MaskedHeroLucky ikr TBN has saved my ass from tankbusters soooo many times... That's why you save MP for it when the TankBuster comes
I've become convinced that the sole reason why that person writes these tier list is for Xeno to review them.
War is definitely getting some nerfs come patch day, been pulling wall to wall in every dungeon and even soloed Zodiark EX from 15% after everyone guessed wrong on a snakes rotation...

All that matters, is MAX DEEPS! - Xenosys Vex (paraphrased).
Also GNB is nearly as survivable as WAR or PLD and has only slightly less damage than DRK. Easily making it #1 (again) for Tank jobs. WAR only has better DEEPS than PLD as far as tanks go.
8:45 me playing Gunbreaker. well i could play a dps but queue times are better as Gunbreaker :-) BUT i kept all my fancy DRK Sword from farming Trial EX mounts, so my next job is ... Warrior ... no Dark Knight :-)
You know why DRK sucks?
Because they looked at Runefencer from 11 and decided to change it's name, make it edgy and remove all the evasion abilities because evasion stopped being a thing after 1.0
I am sorry. Who wrote this has no idea what they are typing...this is actually bullshit.
DRK are the ones that can take an absurd amount of damage because surprise surprise a 25% HP as shield is still effective.
GNB is versatile where? The cartage combo is long enough to where people can get lost in maintaining it so they lose track. 2 aurora just makes it easier to self sustain.
WAR lacks defensives yet the class can go from 1 HP to 100% given bloodwhetting, inner release and a pack of mobs. Not to mention they can keep healing themselves every 25 seconds.
PLD are the type of tank to just be nice as an off tank, The cover spell is actually more useful now as well as holy sheltron being a nice addition. Not to mention that both spells now also heal which is even a better addition and a nice reason to use them more.
I honestly am wondering the same thing Xeno is: "Were they even playing the same game?"
I think I can make a better review of the classes and I haven't even played all of them and the ones I have played are only around 60.
Warrior: Super tanky with lots of mitigation and self healing just from what I heard from my fc.
Dark knight: Lots of dps burst. My fc said that dancers have been known to pick them as a dance partner even just because of their damage output.
Gunbreaker: If you want it to be your turn like thancred then this is the class for you. I still don't know the rotation of this class after leveling it all the way to 60.
Paladin: Spam blind for aoe threat lol just kidding I don't know. I like that they can go invulnerable without screwing up the healers.
Blood Weapon is even worse than it initially seems to some people, because DRK has some spells too, not just weaponskills, so even if you stack tons of skill speed to make Blood Weapon less awful then Unleash, Stalwart Soul, and Unmemd will all still be unaffected because you didn't ALSO meld a bunch of spell speed. Such a badly designed ability, and it would all be immediately fixed if they just increased Blood Weapon's duration by a single second.
These descriptions are so vague and generic that you could easily just switch out the job they're describing and it would still make sense!

I swear, the 'journalist' looks at the weapon and the appearance of the 560 job armor, and made shit up from there. "Greataxe and open vest, ok, that's gonna be high damage, low defense, ok cool next one" "Shield and full plate, ok, that's low damage but extra tanky, man I'm good at this."

like this is for the player to decide not from some wagie, and if that game journo really understood 14 they would know there is no "best" class and that every class is the "best" (well apart from clear ones such as DRK)

As a WAR pocket, this list offends me like here's the thing, everytime i FATE or yet dungeons as other tanks i feel a bit scared i might bit off more than i can chew. WAR however just said fuck it and wall to wall pull like nobody's business
Yes the holy knight with the power of the Gate of Babylon/Unlimited Blade Works and the ability to actually effectively heal themselves is boring. Maybe they could have argued that back in ARR since they didn't have any of their magic yet but after that it got better.
The only tank that I think got shafted is the Dark Knight but even then it's still fully usable from what I've seen, they just need to have their hand held by the healer full time. Besides, it still looks really cool.

Yes as someone who is a sage healer, I do value a squishy tank (paladin) that I usually have to spend more resources on as opposed to the self healing wonder where I have so much space to just keep pushing dps and save resources for aoe healing.
I can’t wait to get to monk cause…hoo boy I have words for monk as the long standing monk main of the fc. God save the journalist that fails to understand the ups and downs of ew monk.
(Edit: I just read the monk review….I’m going to have a few words as the reasons for ranking is absolutely head scratching.)

This article sounds like someone who doesn't understand how to tank. your job as a tank is not to do damage, dont confuse it with not trying to do damage, but to take the most punishment so that the rest of your team doesn't have to. The most important aspects to tanking is how well can you keep agro, sustainability, and damage mitigation. a tank that doestn have to rely on the healer to stay alive, in my opinion, is s tier because it makes the healers job easier and thus making the damages job easier.

I played a lot of DRK in SB and ShB but I've been leveling WAR and it's now my favorite tank. Having my pepega healers die to boss mechanics in EW dungeons and still being able to drag my team kicking and screaming to victory is amazing. XD
To me... playing DRK helps you tank better. Your defensive kit is so shit compared to the other tanks that you learn how to play better yourself. Can't rely on full self healing or taking 0 damage for 20 seconds.
Think the Warrior section might be a few years dated.. like from ARR and HW dated XD
as someone who plays gunbreaker alot i was not too much of a fan of putting gnashing fang into one ability i don't really use it alot i mainly play it as a bodyguard role using aurora to help the healer or dps and the main tank in raids and full party's i would not mind tanking in raids or full partys but the people assume i will off tank so i just roll with it it can kinda be versatile but people don't tend to play it as such i guess as i see i can target others with my stuff so means i can help abit

Bruh, I love me a paladin-warrior tank combo. The amount of self sustain they have makes my life (as a healer) so much easier. Watching the adds just bully dark knights and gunbreakers during the second Ex trial, then to watch a paladin and warrior survive on their own while I'm busy hitting one button...just feels so good.
Those adds SLAP, but I usually head into the phase with everything except shake available, so it's not much of a problem

As someone who has played all four tanks in extreme content (as both MT and OT) and parses decently at around purple 80+, I'd personally rank my most favorite to least favorite tanks to play as Warrior > PLD/GNB > Dark Knight in normal comps. In non-standard comps like 1/1/6 Hydaelyn or 2/1/6 Zodiark I'd probably put Paladin at 2nd and bump GNB down to 3rd.
