CDL AIR BRAKE LEAK TEST: See new Wording in the Description.

  • Four Parts: ONE - Build up Air Pressure to 120 PSI. (Inform the examiner that the Air Pressure is 120 PSI (or more) in both Air Gauges.
    TWO- APPLIED Air Leak TEST: You will apply firm pressure for ONE MINUTE to the service brake. After one minute, give the result.
    THREE- Low Air Warning Devices: Fan down the Brake, the Low Air Warding Devices should come on no latter then 55 PSI. Give the result, the Low Air Warding Device came on at 56 PSI (New Test Wording) FOUR- Dash Valve OPERATIONS: Continue to fan the brake.
    The Valves should pop out between 20 and 45 PSI. (Not below 20 PSI and not before 45 PSI)

    Hey I learn to put the gear in 1st gear before turning off the truck because I used manual. So was my question is did you leave the truck in natural before turning it off?

      Yes never put it in gear when I turned the engine off. Used a wheel chock. If not using a wheel chock, you must put the shifter into first gear to prevent movement. Into first gear and turn off engine or use a wheel chock.

    Steve im nj when turn off and on the engine i push in both valves do i have to wait for needle to stablize or just push the pedal and wait the 1 minute after few seconds pushing the breaks in so videos show to wait for stabiliz some just do it they dont wait u dont want to fail ty

      I always let the air pressure to stabilize. Then firmly press on the brake and once again, let air pressure stabilize. Now ask the examiner to time you for one minute. Don’t be in a rush.

      @truckerstevecdlinstructor wow I was doing it all wrong I didn't let any air stabilize and my trainer never told.me this he said I'm good you pass I will ask them tmr that's so crazy I have a exam on Wednesday glad I caught this ty

      Air leakage test- no more than 4 psi
      Air warning Device- should activate before the air pressure drops below 55 psi
      ( give results)
      Tractor emergency brake (s) check
      Both valves should pop out between 20 & 45 psi.
      On the video you looking at, that’s the old numbers.

      @@AmericanTrucker89 some don’t care about letting it stabilize. Your CDL drivers manual says let air pressure stabilize.

      @truckerstevecdlinstructor I kinda figured cuz I know all my pre inspections my parking no issues , I will ask the trainers tmr cuz I'm confused, so push knobs let the air pressure gauge stabilize and push the pedal let it stabilize then start 1 minute cuz I was pushing the knobs letting it stabilize then start the 1 minute and push the pedal same time

    I just want to say I love your videos... and if you can post a phone number ?....if you actually provide training?... I have not seen all your videos but my main question is can I attend your school or do you simply make videos on TH-cam??

      Hi John, don’t do much training anymore. As a favor to a CDL School in Carroll County, Maryland I just trained 8 Students who will be testing this week for their CDL. All should pass. I’am a CDL tester for the state of Maryland ( third party tester). Are you attending a CDL School now? If yes, what State. Thank you for your comments.

      @@truckerstevecdlinstructor my story is kind of long.. basically I live in Massachusetts and all the schools here were really expensive... and none of them had automatic transmissions... so I went to New Jersey to a school... I got discouraged the first couple of days and decided to go for my class B instead.... however after watching your videos I love that you teach the students where to place the tires to give them a blueprint to do the parking maneuvers...that's what I want.... I would pay you to train me.. hopefully you will take up my offer

      @@johnkritikos5086 check out a college for your training. If you qualify, your training will be free or at a reduced price. Work force or unemployment office for the cost of your training. If you have a job, you may not qualify. Many students don’t know about this.

      @@truckerstevecdlinstructor here in Massachusetts they offer free Grants ( free training).... But what they don't tell you is you have to take applied math test...and science classes etc....I found it extremely difficult so I gave up on the application process

      Can you at least tell me what schools offer training like you teach ?... with the lines in the yard and you telling the students where to place the tires etc

      Every state has the tug and service brake test. Must do the air brake leak test right or fail.

    I have checked that my air tanks are fully charged to 120 psi I Will now turn my truck off and turn mys ignition to the on position,
    I will now push in Both my brake knobs in and wait until th air tanks have settled,
    I do not hear any audible air leaks.
    With steady pressure on the brake peddle i should not lose no more then 4 psi in 1 minute, will you please time me,
    I did not lose more then 4 psi in 1 minute.
    I will now pump down the brakes once the air pressure drops to no less then 60 psi my low air warning light and alarm should activate, My low air light and alarm have activated.
    I will now continue to pump my brakes and both my brake valves should pop out at approxamitly 40 psi,
    Both my valves have poped out my air brake system is working properly.
    DO NOT TOUCH THE VALVES WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THE TESTER DO NOT DO ANY THING BEFORE OR DURRING YOUR FOR BADIEM ANNOUNCEMENT AND SAY THE WORDING EXACTLY EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE SAYING THE FUNCTIONS THAT YOU NEED TO DO YOUR WORDING HAS TO BE EXACT WORD FOR WORD NO DISCUSSION AT ALL ONE MISSED WORD IS A IMEEDIATE FAIL!

      Once air build up/Governor has cut out You releases the tracker and trailer parking brakes you allowed the needle to stabilize but failed to mention what PSI the needle stabilized on before applying pressure to your service brakes

      @@truckerstevecdlinstructor ok so after reviewing you are right I failed because I waited for my needle to stabilize after releasing my parking brakes you don’t have to read the psi your needle stabilizes on you just wait for it to stabilize as say fk it then step on the brakes wait for your needle to stabilize then give your reading and start your timer for 60 seconds smh on my part
