Your channels truly refreshing most people who claim to be God centered fixate on loving God through their practices rather than letting Gods love being recieved we are more focused on how we love God, it's subtle man centeredness.
I love watching your videos. Imagine being the only person that understands these things, but unable to relate it to anyone. You make me feel normal. Thank you Bas. Thank you Jesus for Bas, please bless his family.
I always say, "pray not to receive blessings, but to recall the blessings you already have received." When the Bible talks about remembering the First Love, I believe that remembering can be quite literal. Someone with any sort of emotional or mental trauma quite literally can have impaired memory. In those cases, it helps to ask God to help the person spontaneously recall the times when God's help was present with that person.
Exactly what the Holy Spirit taught me. Thank you for expudiating.. Surprised most sermons translate this wrongly to mean the reverse. May the Lord continue to add his revelations to you. You bless us with the truth immesely.
That is very freeing and soul satisfying. The part about the lamp being taken away is kind of upsetting. Does anyone else have trouble reading the Bible through the lense of grace?
Great job! It is so true that many church goers are only focused on how they look doing "ministry" things. I appreciate and learned from the grace approach you point out. Thanks.
It is through knowing how much God loves you, the depths of it that naturally draws love out of us to him. Try it for yourself if you dont believe it. Spend time reading all scriptures about his love for us, read all the stories of how he showed demonstrating that love through mercy, healing, restoring them. I'm telling you as you do this your heart begins to swell tears begin to flow and love begins to burn for our papa God. Ive experienced this myself ! God is so amazing so good always. We love him because he first loved us. We love him as we learn he is wild about you, head over heels in love for you! It's always about him. Christ in you the hope of glory. Its Christ in you through him because of him any good flows from us. We are just the wrapper of the sweet candy. He is that sweetness. Enter that rest of stop trusting in yourself and start relying on him inside you for the good you want to do, the love you want to share. Its him all him always
Thank you for your teachings brother I'm a fellow minister and have been listening to your videos for a few months. They have been a tremendous blessing as I have been learning of Gods grace, your videos confirm many things. Be blessed and may you continue to prosper in all things friend.
Thanks Eddie. That is so good to hear. Together making a difference in the world by sharing the GOOD NEWS of JESUS and what He has done for us. It is truly finished, isn't it?!
Thank-you Bas for posting this, very much appreciated I've been toiling over this section of scripture that the Lord gave me over 3 years ago ... so subtle, and yet so simple, as it's meant to be of course Blessings to you, your family and your ministry
Good to hear from you Ian. Indeed, so simple, as it's meant to be. Personally I value and love simplicity. And in fact, I believe the Gospel is the simple message of the GOOD NEWS of Christ. Alongside, Bas
Once again my understanding of the Word has been corrected… Thank you, thank you. About this time last year for some reason (I don't know why God didn't tell me before, probs needed to mature!!) God told me to seek out His grace & what it truly means as I was missing out on something big. I have come to see that I have had a misunderstanding of so much scripture for so long it is somewhat staggering… and the sad thing is much of the body is in the same boat. Keep rocking this boat Bas, theres plenty of fish to reel in yet!! :-)
Awesome Laurence. Thank you for sharing. Indeed. God's grace is BIG. Bigger then we can ever imaging or dream - it's just as unending and limitless as God Himself is. Yeah, I know, I continue to renew my mind to. Thank you for the encouragement to keep putting these teachings vids out...I will :)
Thank you for this video! This reminds me of the vs saying, "are you so foolish, having begun in Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?" In Gal 3:3. I completely agree that theres a difference between the works of flesh and the work of God. We may consider the ones we do "good works", but they are actually called dead works. Only the work of Christ is considered good. He said "who are you calling good? Only God is good."
Thanks! It was a good reminder about God's grace and well presented. I laughed at the poo poo bit. Definitely concur that if we rely on our own works then they are like dung before God. I agree that the message about God's love allowing us to love is biblical (1 John 4:10). However, I don't think it is what the passage says because: 1) If we follow Bas' argument, then abandoning our first love means that we aren't Christian (since we haven't received Jesus and have forgotten him). But they are still Christian and God praises them for their endurance and hate of the Nicolaitans (v2, 6). 2) The word for forsaken (ἀφίημι) is hardly (if at all) translated as "forget". Correct me if I'm wrong. 3) In verse 5, it uses the same word "first" again. Here, it describes works. This is a plural rather than a singular. So unlikely to refer to one event (forgetting God) but activities they were doing at the start (from where they've fallen v5). As I read this, it seems to be encouraging Christians who were being persecuted and tempted to not grow dull in their love.
Love your teaching and the Spirit in you, Bas. I wanted to ask if you would please do a teaching on Galatians 2 verses 17 & 18, in particular, when you get a chance. I struggle with understanding them in context and a 'Hebrew Roots' person is using them (against me) to support his position for following the Law. Thanks for all you do!
Thank you! It's my pleasure (and calling) to teach :) I won't be soon that I'll share on those verses....anybody else who's reading this - you're welcome to share your thougths on Gal. 2:17-18
I don't know if this guy knows what he is talking about. If you use scripture interprets scripture for Revelations 2:5 the interpretation is simple. The Gospel of John helps to interpret the Book of Revelations that was also written by John. Here in (John 14:21 Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him." We see in this passage what it means to love Christ, Revelations 2.5 says essentially the same thing but in a different way. If you love Christ you will obey his commands, that is how you show your love to Christ. To show your love to Christ you live a life of surrender to his Will and not your own. You take up your cross and follow him. His will is clearly defined in the scriptures but you can only do his will via being transformed into a new creation and through reliance upon the Holy Spirit. Anything he has commanded we lean on the Holy Spirit for strength. If you do not love him you will not do his will for you are not a new creation. If you are a new creation and belong to him you have been through a divine transformation where the Holy Spirit puts the Will and desires of God within you and you want to live a holy life and one that honors His commands. That is what it means to become a new Creation, you are ruled by the Holy Spirit within you and ruled by the desires of God that have been imputed to you. Once we become a new creation we love what God loves and this is instant and also progressive. In Rev. 2:4-5 Jesus is saying, "Keep growing, Keep maturing in your love" because if you don't love, conversion likely never happened and therefore you are not actually the Church hence you don't have any light. If you are a new Creation you will be constantly growing in your love for God for the Holy Spirit is working within you and is faithful to complete the work he started. Bottom line is, Christ is not going to dwell in a wanna be Church that its members are not regenerated therefore he will remove himself. Jesus is saying this to make sure that the Church being addressed examines itself to see if it is even in the Faith. To tell them to observe how far they have fallen is to say, they are not obeying him anymore. Repent, always refers to disobedience. They were not observing his commands anymore. Before they were zealous to obey, now they are indifferent to his commands. This raises the question if there was a genuine conversion or not. If they stay in disobedience then conversion probably never happened and so the lampstand an light of the Gospel will be removed. If there is repentance and obedience then it confirms their conversion and the Lamp of the Light of the Gospel will shine brightly once again. He affirms that they knew and heard the truth and responded well to it in verses 2:4 but tells them to examine them selves to make sure conversion actually happened in 2:5. Its not a complicated verse to figure out and to pit legalism and grace against each other is silly and immaterial to the text, its not about that. Its about genuine conversion and if they are converted then repent and begin obeying with the zeal you had before. If they haven't truly converted yet, then repent and obey. Love him the way he has commanded us to love him but this is not done through the power of the flesh but through an imputation of the will and desires of God that happen upon conversion and being transformed into a new creation. Self examination is the point here and Jesus tells them exactly how to do it.
Strange thing is you are saying exactly what Bas is saying. That's one of the traits of sectarian Christianity to see the differences in language and points of view while completely missing the points all that's common. If we are to move on we have to learn to " reconcile"things. It may take a while but we must do so. Paul reconciled with Peter. Law keepers reconciled with non-law keepers etc. The message is grace through faith alone. Ministries are the different perspectives to get us all on the same grounds. We would not all grasp nor express it the same way.
my understanding of first love comes from what they were asked to do in other to go back to the first love. They were asked to DO the first WORKS. Therefore the first love is a PRACTICAL thing. It is not a heart action. it is not a belief thing. it is not a persuasion in the heart. it is a WORK that should be DONE. Do the first work...they were told. Some people said the Ephesians served God with selfish motive quite unlike their initial service. This is not true either for it is written... for MY NAME'S SAKE you have laboured. That word love is the Greek word for brotherly affection, love feast or benevolence. This love therefore is the benevolence they used to extend to the needy in their midst which they left. God asked them to do the first works. Looking after the needy in the church was an integral part of worship of early church. Today, the people of God world over had left this vital WORK. may God help his people do the first works.
2 ways of reading the bible. Exegesis vs Eisegesis Which method do you think he is using? Do you think he is right? Don't you think you should read this in the context of all 7 letters to the 7 churches?
Not sure what you do mean by your comment "Do you think he is right?". If you think that what Bas teaches is false and out of context, then I would say your understanding is based on a legalistic view of scripture. Then more or less everything what Bas teaches is false to you.
I didn't say he is right or wrong. I simply sugguest to the viewers to read in context, and let them make the decision themselves according to the right way of reading the scriptures. That does not mean I disagree with everything Bas shared in all his videos. Truth is not afraid to be scrutinized.
I think that it's a big mistake to look at Rev Ch 2&3 as one would look any other scriptural verses throughout the NT which discuss the Gospel of Salvation. My understanding of Chapter 2 & 3 of Revelation Who is being warned in chapters 2 & 3 of Revelation? The individual sinner or the church? IMO, These verses have absolutely nothing to do with the individual salvation relationship with Christ. These verses concern the churches and their doctrines . The churches are being warned against false teaching that was creeping into and perverting the early Gospel. Adultery, as referred to in these Revelation verses, has nothing to do with the sins of an individual. The Adultery referred to here is when a faithful church engages with, teaches or allows false teachings or doctrines not of Christ within that church. The church which teaches and tolerates false teachings essentially commits adultery against Christ. (At the time of the writing of Revelation by John these included the followers of Balaam, the Nicolatians, Jezebel, etc. Today these false teachers include the legalists, Lordship salvationists, and the many who say they preach in Christ's name but instead preach false gospels (doctrines) or add to the gospel the works of men thereby denying true Gospel of grace) The candlestick represents the church and it's authority given to it by Christ. The churches which preached false gospels and introducing and accepted many of these false heathen Babylonian worship doctrines were considered adulterers by Christ , and Christ threatened to remove them (their candlesticks) from his authority no longer representing His Gospel. Repentance here is not referring to an individual repenting ( deciding to believe on Christ for his salvation) but of a church changing and rejecting false teachings and coming back to teaching and proclaiming the true Gospel.
Excellent, Duck! So often these two chapters are wrongly used as 'evidence' that we can lose our salvation. I've struggled over them before, too, so I thank you.
Duck, thank you for sharing your insights. Very helpful and a good clarification! I agree, that these letters are written to churches as a whole. I do say that in the video but it might not be so clear.
Due to circumstances in my life, I just not sure if I want to hold Jesus as number one in my life. Instead, I have come idolize the Holy Spirit as my God above all. Oh. Alongside Yaweh too. I guess. He's in a cardboard box right now (because I dared Him to fit Himself in one, and somehow, impossibly, HE DID!) Unfortunately, this put Jesus in the back. Sipping coffee; doing office work. His guard completely unprepared for the pranks the Holy Spirit and I intend to pull on Him. Should I feel bad? Is this bad? :(
