    Thank you. I am a liver recipient. And if it wasn’t for people like you, I wouldn’t be here today. The sad part is, we do not know who our donors are.

    I had my 2nd liver transplant in 2018. Waiting on the list is like a roller coaster. Deciding to donate your loved one’s organs and tissues can save over 8 lives and greatly improve the lives of more than 75 people. Just from one single donor. This even includes giving sight to the blind. There is no cost to the donor family, their loved one is treated with dignity and respect during the process and it in no way affects the funerary process, even still allowing for an open casket service. There are more than 100,000 people waiting for an organ in the US. I can’t imagine a more positive mark to leave on this world than to give so many people a second chance at life. You can’t take anything with you when you die, so why not leave this world giving the most you can.

      Many people don’t realize that they can be living donors for liver recipients. Livers regenerate and grows back to normal size after a few weeks. If more people knew this I think more people would donate. I’m glad you were able to get a transplant. My husband is going to need a heart transplant and because of the supply vs demand, it’s tough getting on the list. Thankfully he’s relatively young, healthy (besides the heart), with no lifestyle risk factors so hopefully he’ll be a good candidate

    The UK enacted a “opt out” law in 2021. The law makes everyone a donor upon their death and they have to opt out with the government if they don’t want to donate. Additionally families can opt out for their deceased relative if they don’t want to have the persons organs donated. We need something similar in the US. My spouse needs a heart and it’s frustrating that the list is so long

    • @vitalucas9452
      @vitalucas9452 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's a discussion they must have at the table with their relatives so they don't veto it.
      My family was sick of me saying, "I want to be an organ donor every Thanksgiving." It's uncomfortable but you have to put it out there. When one of my dearest friends died a relative spoke about how her organ donations helped 50 people. There was a large gasp from the crowd. Do it. Tell your family. And keep reminding them.

      @@vitalucas9452 Don’t know. Should be up to the individual to decide if they are over 18. We just check a box on our drivers license. If it’s a minor child who passes which is horrific it’s up to the parents.
