Turning point for Newcastle United. Some great times with Kevin Keegan & Terry McDermott at the helm in 1990's. Great music too later British Pop Scene when Newcastle United challenged Man United at Top of English Premier League.

I didn't go to this game, but read from many that there was hell on here.Listened to it on the radio and was really tense. In some ways, I'm glad I didn't go.A fantastic win though, etched forever in Newcastle. :)

@@djj9988 oh my god sorry about that. I'm a Leicester fan. Was 17, couldn't get a ticket so went down the stadium to soak up the Atmos and drunk some tinnies outside.
Saw a few toon fans outside older than me( not wearing colours) and got chatting as i like Geordies and to be fair they did seem a bit sheepish until they saw I was friendly.
Was about to take one or 2 to a local pub but instead stewards opened gates early and I snook in just after half time and saw a bunch of goals and went on pitch for free.
Hope you don't hate us for that I always thought we were reasonably friendly with each other as clubs. Can't remember after game maybe I just got the bus home and missed seeing any fight

The start of some great times for the toon not seen since the early mid 70s...so today we are on the brink of relegation again and tbh I am hoping we go down and spend a couple of years out of the Pl...in the hope that Ashley will sell up and take his cronies and hangers on with him....then kk and Terry mac will buy the club fill the team with players who actually want to play and hire coaches who know what they are doing.....ah well you gotta dream haven't you.

    • @andrewphippsphillips1455
      @andrewphippsphillips1455 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Well Kev & Terry might not own us, but we have one of the most wealthy groups on the entire planet who could theoretically buy us any player we wanted.
But the smart move of Trippier was the starting point and (like this team here, some 30yrs before) we have a club with belief and a canny coach who is slowly taking us somewhere.
The eve of a cup final and it's something that two years ago would've been laughed at as a possibility 🤣

I wonder if the little lad with his mother on the side of the pitch after the first goal remembers the game.

I remember that day. Had to stay focused all day. Scum ambushed loads of our lads. They only let us have 1,800 tickets. So we were heavily outnumbered. I remember them coming for our coaches. We ran them back there. But they are horrible fans. Also they hate us because we used to get on with Forest apparently.

" Walshys done it, .. hahaha marvellous day oh you'd better believe he's done it.. Loved that team, Ned Kelly, if a bloke should ever have been born a Geordie.. Anecdotal story, Mate of mine ( Black n White Santa alias Mad Mick ) was a pal of Kellys during his time at the Toon, one night after Ned had signed for the poor club down the road , they bumped into each other in a netty in some club in Toon, " Ah Kelly ya mackem bastard says Mick.. What , you think i enjoy playing for those c*nts says Ned..God bless ya mate

Had it finished 1-1, would Newcastle have been relegated (and would Leicester have won automatic promotion)?

No. Newcastle could have lost and stopped up. Boro won at wolves so Leicester winning would have made them still lose out on goal difference to Boro.

how things could have been so diffetent at newcastle over the past 25 years had they been relegated then? Keegan may have gone after that match, and they could have ended up just like an Ipswich town.

aid901 Agreed although for me it started to change when we sold Andy Cole. Expectations had increased massively by then and the crowd wasn't the same anymore.

Newcastle United 1980 - 1994 Video's Nice one - thanks for the good wishes. I don't think Newcastle will go down. It will be tight mind. I hadn't realised that Newcastle were safe anyway after this game. You're right though, the next 5 years were unreal for Newcastle, 92-93 absolutely steamrollering the 2nd division including Boro in the cup, challenging for the league, Cole, Albert, Beardsley, Shearer...good times. Not nice what's going on now for yous under Ashley.

They were as good as it got really, wey, bar 2 seasons under Sir Bobby.
We exist to exist these days, we aren't a sporting institution anymore. It won't change unless he sell's up.
