This series was so helpful. It’s crazy how even when you think you know how to squat you truly don’t. Teaches you to be humble and keep learning no matter what number you can lift.
I’ve watched this series and shared it many times. It is fascinating. Those closing remarks about resting enough to ensure you can put out enough effort is spot on, even for other sports. For example, in cycling I improved much more rapidly with intense rides interspersed with rest and recovery instead of just going hard every time. Also good to remember the body gets stronger during rest, not while exercising.
Thanks so much! Probably the best squat video I've seen. I understand where and why my squats are breaking down now. Sad to see that the number of views goes down with each part. Why aren't people watching the whole series?
Someone mentioned this series in the comments of a Rippetoe, video, and I'm so glad I watched it! Thank you for this awesome series. My squat's been getting a bit dodgy and I've noticed my form slipping, so this should really help me! Thanks Dave!
I've just watched the 5 of these episodes, I'm gobsmacked. I never thought of approaching a squat by using accessory exercises like this before. These 5 episodes are dense with valuable experience, I'm definitely going to take this advice. Thanks a million, much appreciated!
Dude u get mad respect for me for posting this video!! Thanks alot. I've always had problems with weight at the 315+ mark but I know now where my weaknesses are and how to work on them.
To build muscle and especially strength you need to have caloric excess. It essentially allows your body to grow and get bigger. Also if you dont eat enough you wont recover fast enough to train your whole body 3-5 times a week like most powerlifters do.
Excellent series, thanks! I would have loved to hear more about how to correct knees from collapsing in at the bottom of the squat. Can you recommend another video or set of exercise to help correct this issue? I believe you said it had to do with quad dominance vs hip/glute dominance.
Basil Camu Yes. When you spread your knees outward on the squat, you put the weight onto your glutes. When bend at the knees first, you put the weight onto your quads. The best way to correct it is always initiating the squat by spreading your knees outward. Hope this helped.
First 2 minutes told me everything I needed to know. I used to think my ass had grrat genetics because I never did anything to build it directly. They just grow by squatting. However they are definitely the weak point. Gotta fix that and also build strength in the hams as well
Friend The five part Squat tutorial is instructive My own particular obsession is 20 rep Squats done with belt, no wraps and no super-suit or other aids I'm doing these for my own satisfaction, & for my purposes, it is important to do a Full Squat-hamstrings contacting calves Did 385x20 back in my early 30's I haven't been in a gym for many years(I'm 56), but I'd love to try to work up to 405x20 or even more. My lower Back does tend to round at the bottom Any hints? Thank You .....RVM45
Hello, Thats because they are powerlifters so basically all they care is how much weight can they lift, that means good nutrition and lots of insane weights training, fat is power too so they need it, on the other side Bodybuilders train for making their bodys look their best, thats why they also get good nutrition but and weight training but they have to control their fat % really low so muscles can be exposed, i hope i helped you
Many olympic lifters will appear to be fat. Strength correlates with weight, so competition strength lifters gain weight to lift more. Bodybuilders who appear to be the strongest people you have ever seen are not nearly as strong because they have to keep their body fat down and also they lift weights to bulk up, not to build strength, which are two very different things
look up an exercise called russian lean. not an easy exercise but activates the same exact muscles and doesnt require a machine! just a friend or some stationary object! PS: first time you try one, prepare to fall! I squat around 280 and weigh 175 and still fall flat on my face xD
lol 'repped' hahaha, from bb.com for sure. this is soo good. i was struggling with rip's chest down. felt soo unnatural. this guy explains EVERYTHING. repped!
Hi there, have you considered "MuscLeader" (look on Google)? On their website you can watch a great free video explaining the best way to develop visible muscles fast whilst reducing excess fat at the same time. Devan and many other guys experienced positive results using this method. It might help you also.
So why does not a single Russian or old school Western lifter do them? And why does no westside method lifter hold an all time raw squat record? Hint: Because wide boz squats have little to no relevance to most raw lifters.
Can someone explain to me why guys who are really strong, just look fat? especially the face. They can fucking tip over a car, but they look like the live in a McDonalds. How is that possible?
This series was so helpful. It’s crazy how even when you think you know how to squat you truly don’t. Teaches you to be humble and keep learning no matter what number you can lift.
Don’t know how many times I’ve watched this series but one thing is certain I will be watching it many more times. Matt is a fine coach.

This saved me from the Rippetoe squat
I'm kind of sad the series is over now.

and if you do this buttwink just do some stretching.
196 likes no dislikes lol wow more sytycs vids. amazing knowledge.
when you don't have form breakdown anymore and just fail a squat from exertion.
lol'd "is he cramping? is he scared?"

Step 1. Remove the box.

yeah, take the box away, lol
thank you so much, great and helpful as fuck videos!! ♥
Glute****
They have high muscle mass with a large amount of fat as well. They're not like bodybuilders who have tons of muscle but no fat.
they have massive amounts of muscles there is just a little bit of fat on top
Couldn't help but notice about 15000 less viewers on the last video, future chiropractor patients I presume, thanks for posting these vids!
haaayyyyyy
