Every room needs a set of bright clear lights for when you're cleaning. You will leave these lights switched off the rest of the time and enjoy your soft diffused bedroom lights instead. Matching or non-matching furniture is a trend and like any trend, it will come and go. If you want your bedside tables to match you bed, go for it. Sprung base beds are a disaster, but so is a bed frame that is boxed in down to the floor, or with storage built in under the bed. You need free air movement to let that area dry and avoid mould. It's amazing how much sweat our bodies release overnight!
I can say that, speaking about utility, the last thing you want is a flimsy bed. I am renting an apartment right now, and the bed broke ~3 times because it's hinged on thin wooden boards, with (initially) no middle support, despite being a king-size. It's horrible going to sleep like you're on a minefield or on a floating iceberg, where every move might be your last. It kills the sleepy mood, not to mention how hard doing the other thing in bed. Please buy something sturdy you can throw bowling balls on
Decide where to invest the money. Not everything has to be high end. I bought a lot of cheap things early on because it was all I could afford in addition to hand-me-downs - I still have some of those pieces but replaced the bed frame, mattress and curtain and curtain rods with higher quality pieces over the years.
I stop matching bedroom furniture years ago and the room is much better with different styles, colors and comfy.
Brilliant advice as always and all so attainable! I love how you give rental options.
Couldn't agree more about the "walk in" closets. Some of them are ridiculously tiny and can't even store as much as a PAX.
Where should I hang my black velvet Bob Marley painting with built-in black light? Over the iguana tank or beside the Christmas Story leg lamp?
Asking again: where did you get the green nightstand shown at 1:14? Thanks!

Moral of the story: Have the money
