Just make sure you keep mumbling along Matt, it’s all good interesting stuff!! Excellent engineering and fabrication as usual. ✊👌👍
That’s my approach to an eff up too, don’t look at it and walk away, pretend it didn’t happen 😂 the solution you came up with is what I would have done also.
Great fix for the rose joint brackets.
Oh and just so you know A+ idler gear bearings fit the steering column lovely
Job well saved , keep up good work it's coming together well.
loved the solution for the too small tabs! Good on ya!
Great video. I'm really enjoying the progress and your attitude towards problem solving.
The mini really suits that colour
Mistakes happen, it's the ideas that you come up with to sort the mistake that can prove to be interesting solutions for others.👍
14.27 with those rose joints your going to want to use bolts with smeooth collars as bolts that are full thread are not suitable and will wear very quick. im sure your aware but thought id remind you in case 👍🏻👍🏻
what a save with the front mounts. i think they look better after you bent the tabs like it was meant to be done that way. awesome job
Awesome , great save of not cutting the brackets off and just moving them to fit 👍🏻👍🏽🤙🏼
Don't be pissed off ...... more top content 😎👍 we'll have to get the wife to order me the new hoodie as usual for Christmas it is starting to look good
Thanks for the update! Really enjoying the Mini build.
Next lvl attention to detail...... Welldone matt
it is special the sound of your mig
Great solution with the brackets. Glad that you managed not to damage the paint.
As always Top-notch fabrication.
Hi Matt,
Pleased to see your fix for the rose joints. It is always best to sleep on a problem that to dive right in on the first thing that comes to you. I have to do it all the time. I really like the steering column extension and I will need to have another look at mine when I get to that point in my project. Great work as usual.
Kind regards Paul from 48-SPOKES
nice machining there matt, you would make a great engineer, i noticed sometimes you where getting a poor finish on the alloy, thing is with alloy, some of it is not good for machining, it becomes sticky and will stick to the tool giving you a very bad finish, notice while you was drilling to get the boring bar in the drill grabbed the work and it started rotating, lubricant will always help, you could look into getting some cutting oil/coolant mix to use, but you should always only machine metals that are called "free machining", this means they are suitable for lathe and mill work.
G'day,
Great video. Your welding skills never cease to amaze me.
I did notice when welding the steering bracket you did a trial run something I should incorporate.
✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia
He explained it once, first is to make himself comfortable, second, to see if he can weld the job in one pass
@@markgriffin4888
Thanks man. ✌️
@@kevinhamling1963 --- us AUSSIES have to stick together 👍👍👍
Now that's good thinking putting a little bend in the rose joints brackets.
Do you need a collapsible joint in the steering column to protect you in a front collision? I've never built a racecar so I don't know. Great video.
You don't need an in date seat for racing in UK Matt, that one will be fine. You can get new seat belt hole covers.
Well done Mr 😎
crisis averted! personally, i find a bit of swearing gets the creative juices flowing. nice work on the column sir.
Did you consider building some weakness into the steering shaft in case of frontal impact?
Hard to tell from the vid, but the column won't impede your left foot getting to the brake? Or do you not need to left foot brake as it's front wheel drive? As always love your style in the fab work, looks tech AF
Amasing work as usual. Keep those updates coming, it's not the quality of the video sound that counts. BTW thanks for the hint on the Mk2 Escort Ujoint!
Matt, Matt, Matt.
How very dare you.
What were you thinking???
You forgot to say, "like a Glove!"
Good save, mate
One comment, great video but about moving the weight back in a FWD car. The Archer Brothers (Tommy and Bobby) in the USA said just the opposite. They wanted as much weight on the front wheels of a fwd race car as possible. To the point of moving their fuel cell and battery box, etc. forward not back. They were very successful here in the USA, many national championships in fwd and rwd race cars and were factory sponsored by Renault back when Renault did that sort of thing in the USA, along with many other factory teams over the years. Their explanation is the rear tires just coast with fwd, the front tires have to stick for power, braking and cornering forces so that's where the weight goes for maximum traction. That contrasts with a rwd car as the front and rear wheels benefit from a more central weight distribution.
Interesting information.
I have owned a couple of Alfasuds in the past and they have the boxer engine mounted way in front of the drive shafts and most of the weight is forwards of the front wheels. They handle like they are on rails..
in my humble experience i'd have to agree with your points.
Without sounding tooo much like a Git...it sounds like none of you have driven a mini? Because the Engine is quite a lump (ie Cast iron Head and Block) if you take toooo much weight out of the back end then it can get a little skittish if you need to throw an anchor out. Peace ;D
@@danstewart8218 Plenty of fwd cars, mini, Renault and Civic. Sounds like you like an understeering fwd, and never raced one. Skittish is fast, power off oversteer. Pushing is not. Brake bias should be adjustable on any semi serious racecar and master cylinders must match the weight.
Sound is fine
NO car project is "ready to run" till some serious swearing goes down! Finished is relative to what time of day it is, and weather is a factor too. This one looks to be fast and safe- very hard combo without breaking the bank! FR
Hi my name is Kurt Hamblin and I'm a mini racer in Barbados. So I've built and raced my own mini and I've won a championship doing so. I've followed a lot of mini miglia racing and builds. But I could never see all the construction or why exactly was it done. I so appreciate your videos to ever detail.
Please can you tell me the paint code of the paint you choose? I was like ughh. But it has completely grown on me.
Great work. I have to ask why a rose joint for the steady bar when this is a part that has virtually no movement?
Brad, you can't have any movement of the engine with the gear change sold mounted inside otherwise engine movement would have it popping out of gear.
Peter, I can only think a Rose joint on the end of the bar will give scope & flexibility for easy installation but once it's in place, the joint function seems redundant
@@_Brad_Dyou're right they really are to allow for easier Installation and adjustment of engine. Combined with an alloy turnbuckle they are probably a fair bit lighter. These are fairly inexpensive rose joints so save time in fabricating something
nice save!
good job man
The engine don't have a cross flow head ?
The first thing i do after a cockup is walk around the garage and pick up the tools that i threw around during my temper tantrum ☺️
Just out of curiosity, how much room there is between your velocity stacks and the firewall?
would of sucked having to cut those tabs off as paint had gone on so well and the fab/finish was sweet .
A cool head and cunning plan paid off though, does show that stepping back and thinking over a solution pays off most times .
steering column pretty much ticked off, lathe and mill really are paying off in increasing your part engineering choices .
camera footage sound is pretty good ... stay calm and carry on ...
Why no collapsible steering column? The extra weight must be out weighed by the safety aspect? Also the thickness of the steel support bracket seems a bit lacking for such an important piece? But hey you know what you're doing and all the regs in sure...... LAG....
Mattyyyyyy!
Noice.
Hi how do I contact you please I need some machine work doing please I think your videos are grate to watch and I really like your work
If you do nothing else please watch the advert and like .😎👍👍👍👍👍❤️
nice
I call it "Field Expedient Tourette Syndrome" myself. I find that if you cuss something long enough and hard enough, you can generally get it fixed.
Those rose joints look very loose for new ones,we’re they from China 🇨🇳 😂
Why Does everyone use floor mounted pedals ? They are so uncomfortable to use
You think? I love floor mounted pedals, because they hinge where you hinge, you don't have to reposition your toes after clutching etc 🤷🏻♂️
@@kiesh. i strongly disagree it always feels like your left foot has to travel in an arc to work the clutch . But if others like it ..... Not everyone likes the same stuff 😅

Serious swearing..... tell me about it!
Sometimes a little “serious swearing” is needed.
