I liked a girl from Malawi and decided to approach her, she told me she was told that south African men are no good. I didn't know what to say to her after that. She was really beautiful, but I had to walk away, and I realised there's love for us out there.

Ok? I had a crush on one Ghanaian lady but could not master the gut to tell her how I felt cause I was told that ladies from the African continent just don't consider South African men good enough in everything... now the love of my life is taken!

You did not have the confidence to tell her how you feel?wow.. confidence is why women like Nigerians because we're not shy..My brother the worst a woman will tell you is am married or I have a boyfriend but if you don't ask her you don't get them.. most girls Nigerians talk to say ah you Nigerian guys are these and that but as a man you keep convincing her until she fall for you.. Bro my advice is always be confident with women, learn to convince them that's how you get the best girl...

Most African ladies from African countries not all but majority, they don't want us South African men because of what their people they r telling them..I remember in varsity, it was a problem whenever u start talking about love to a lady from other African country because their families, friends and people from where they r from tell them SA men r abusive and u will not be happy.

Yeah you're right I've seen it happen a lot. My friends were so surprised when I told them I was in a relationship with a South African guy saying they are abusive. I think it's a bad generalization that the rest of us Africans have of South African men .

You are experiencing what South African women go through when they also date men from other African countries. The common denominator is men and it reminds me of white men who don't want their white daughter to bring home a black man, lol. There is always harrassment, invasive questions, stereotypes and misconceptions. It's actually something that happens in any society when the woman falls in love with someone outside of their own culture because of the phenomenon of mate guarding. It's ridiculous and annoying because women have agency and you can do what you want.
People also have perceptions due to the impressions they get. SA society have developed a stereotype against men from other African countries in which they are regarded to be opportunistic scammers who use women of South Africa as placeholders or a means to an end. That's the dominant narrative. On the flipside, South African men are also perceived as abusive, irresponsible and less masculine from what I have learnt. It's unfortunate and the ignorance doesn't help. In both cases these are just unfair generalizations.
I am sorry for your experience but you have a good head on your shoulders.
Do not pay attention to the haters and enjoy your union ❤

The united states of Africa that everyone is speaking so fondly of is at least a 1000 years in the making. I want to tell my fellow South Africans that people who speak ill at South Africans don't do so out of hatred for South Africans. They do so out of extreme intolerance towards those who are different to them, they do the same thing towards their fellow country men of different tribes or clan. The so called civil wars in many parts of Africa are more of tribal wars and inter-community wars than civil wars. What makes South Africans perceive the negative attitude of some Africans towards South Africans as hatred is because South Africans are very tolerant towards those who are different to them. As much as South Africans are adept to their heritage, they embrace each other and give utmost respect to those different to them. In South Africa it is not a "taboo" to marry outside one's own tribe whether one is a man or a woman. It is very common to find people with a first name of tribe different to one's surname, e.g. a Zulu name with a Sesotho, Pedi, Venda or Tsonga surname. Having said all that, there will be a time when South Africans will get tired of all the negative judgement and hostility directed at them. Once that time comes, South Africans will develop a deep dislike and intolerance towards fellow Africans because the attacks are now becoming unbearable.
