Hi, Enjoy watching your vid's. Can you tell me, what is it when the bottom rail is hard and not beveled. The best surfboard I had in late 60's was a hard down rail surfboard from top to bottom. Narrow in nose a bit and more parallel rails. I never see boards on any of the YT vids' that the shaper does a hard down rail. It worked great, and don't see the drawback? I know I am missing something?
Can you please tell me why everyone bevels the down rail so much now? In the boards I have now also. I just had one built and the shaper could not bring himself to do what I asked. So I am guessing it is something shapers just don't think works? It does btw.
    Thank you!

The soft, tucked under edge is the most popular because it is the most forgiving. I know what you are talking about because I had many magic down rails. So fast and responsive.

@@kazumasurfboards Hi, thank you! I have tried to explain and just had a board made and he said he understood, but not close. I have thought maybe the only way I can get another is to shape it myself, so watching your videos... but am old and doubt my ability (;-}... I know what a great board it was for.. chest high to above.
      Thank you !

@@OneDayCloserToHim. That is one of the main reasons people start to shape. Getting what they want.

@@kazumasurfboards It is the reason I have come to think of doing it for sure, lol... but watch you and understand there is more to it than my "eye" can see. More steps, or rather, a lot of steps I am not sure about. But have spent a lot of money and didn't get what I want at all, and am reluctant to have someone do it "for" me again. I really admire guys I have talked to, even the last person, who did make me a board, but think .. well maybe past acceptance or belief of what can or could work.. maybe? Of what a shaper thinks works.. .limits him on what he is "seeing"? .. Don't know, but have talked to Rusty of Rusty surfboards, and he would do what I wanted to a point.. and then told me, I would "love" what he wanted... ? Really? lol...
And I had one person who is good really here in PNW make a board, but they also couldn't or can't .. I guess.. believe it would work... so can only go as far as they think it will... Is that the problem? I know I used the same words to them as i did to you.. lol.. and you understood..

Cool ! how far into the rail do u have to take it? like the top rail bands are mesured 1/8' inch from the buttom right? do u do the same for the tucked under edge with any dims from the top ?
