    Shalom, It sounds as if The difference between long and short vowels is the length you sounds them, but they have the same sound. Is this correct?

    I thought you said ا 'Alif' is not a connective letter?
    And also on the last word. the second ب 'ba' has 2 dotes under. is this a mistake or what does this mean?

      Yes, Alif is not connectable, so it doesn't connect to the following letters.
      Actually, all Arabic letters connect to the preceding letters, but not all of them connect the the following letters.
      As for ba with two dots, it's actually ي
